I noticed that the V360 tag showed up when I posted with Opera mini. The last post reflecting Nokia E61-1 was done with the built-in "Services"/WAP browser.

Celtel advert:
Simply Special package (no monthly access): Happy Hour calls @10k per sec
Simply Smooth package (N400 monthly access): Happy Hour calls @10k per sec
Simply Smart package (N3,600): Happy Hour calls @10k per sec
This info is verifiable on the Celtel website at: http://www.ng.celtel.com/en/personal-plans/unity/index.html
Ahem... where did our in-house free night apologists get the info that Celtel is now offering free night calls from?
Posted by ambyzown
@Aya: I don't remember anyone saying midnight calls were free on Celtel, I guess u just assumed so. They toed the footsteps of Glo to avoid network congestion. Only MTN offers free midnight calls.
@Mariwun: glad to see u're happy with ur new toy. You didn't talk about the media player and office support, those any good too?
@All: just upgraded my opera mini from the russian mod v1.2 to v2.0. Now I can open & view multiple windows. This is so cool
Posted by mariwun
the media player is actually really good,as good as my w950i,the loudspeaker volume is actually like 50% higher on the N95.il be using it as my main music phone for a while when my memory card arrives.as for the office apps i dont use this feature so im not in a position to comment on how it functions.

@ambyzown: We were having a discussion over free midnight call, and statements like these were made:

@Amby/AYA: What are u guys saying? ....
-that Celtel should NOT have copied the others?
(BTW it is a combo of bfree midnight calls, lower SMS, lower tariffs and introduction of Friends and Family that I am saying Celtel copied)
Those are clear inferences that Celtel now has introduced free nighties. And this is corroborated by mamba's response as follows when I asked about it:
On 2007-04-12 08:51:00, mamba wrote:
i believe there's free night calls on the other option with access charge.
In our debate, at some point I was given the impression that Celtel had introduced free midnight calls. Then yesterday, I ran into a newspaper ad that says otherwise.
It really does not matter to me what Celtel does or does not do. Just needed to clarify facts. Cheers all.

@AYA I thot u said we should "drop it"? This is a clear case of: Yanga de sleep trouble de come wake am...
Anyway, the Unity plan that charges N400 /mo gives free midnight calls.
Now one more post on this issue and the ceasefire is broken.
@All I have decided on my candidates: PPA for NASS (because I know the Reps candidate for Abuja) and ADC's Pat Utomi for Prez.
Posted by mamba
Glo and Celtel offer free midnight on their packages easytalk and simply smooth. Of course Celtel copied glo. I hope this is the last we hear of this discussion sha.
@mariwun, ur a big boy o! you have w950 and N95 when some guys dey drink garri here in Nija.
Posted by OluYom
@coolapostle: Its useless threatening someone like me. What have I done wrong? Celtel's website and adverts say that its Happy Hours calls cost 10k per second. Your beef should be with Celtel for their misinformation; not with me.
If you want to re-open the argument, I'm afraid you'll be having a one-sided argument. That, dear friend, will be hilarious

I remember saying this:
@Coola: You aren't compelled to migrate. By now you should understand that anything that is free in Naija eventually leads to the of gnashing of teeth due to congestion. I totally agree with what Aya said, and think Celtel has trodden the right path. Have you tried calling MTN numbers lately?
That shoulda told u happy hour calls weren't free.
@Mamba and Coola: I am on simply smooth, and happy hour calls are charged at 10k/sec. Its NOT free!

@ambyzown: Yes; I know what you said, but they gave an impression that it is at a later point. And the very fact that they are still insisting that it is free says more than enough.

How come no one responded to my post about the new russian mod Opera Mini V2.0 with tabbed browsing? No free gprs to try it out with?
Don't be cheap guys, recharge and browse, but remember to disable pictures to reduce cost.
By the way, have you guys noticed the imitation nokia and SE phones from china? They're everywhere. I saw a cloned M600i yesterday, it was being sold for N16k. I think everyone should stay from there phones.

can u PM the download link? I use Opera mini3, but the tabbed browsing would be fun.
The imitation handsets have been around for some time now. Nasty business, if you ask me. If they want to make cheap phones, they should simply create their own brands and models.
Posted by brym!
@amby:Lets get the link and try it out. I searched last night but couln't get a link. I learnt it is hacked(modified). I'm using v.3.1.7... which like v.2 do not fully support WM devices.
Regarding these false branded phones, the first one I saw was the copy of Nokia 8800. Though nothing compared with the original I was quite impressed with the user interface and onboard memory. No need using Nokia and other well known brands, the importers should rebrand them and sell them as low end phones...Nigerians go still buy.
Posted by OluYom
I got the link right here on Esato: http://rangers.wen.ru/opera.html. It is a lovely job! Now I can have multiple windows running... oooohhhhhh
Posted by mamba
Been using the operamini mod with tabbed browsing for 4 months now, real good stuff. There's no limit to what u can do with the app, it's feature-packed.
Try http://rangers.wen.ru/opera.wml
Posted by brym!
Yeah! Just as I suspected, it didn't work on my Windows Mobile. So I'm back to v.3.
Posted by OluYom
@brym!: this, among others reasons, is why I am ditching my foray into the world of windows mobile. The v2.0 hack works excellently on the E61. The feature pack is amazing. Opera should hire this Russion guy, abeg!

Guys i downloaded opera mini hack (version 2.02) but the problem i have is that it is in russian. Please i need the english version link if it is available
Posted by OluYom
@pxthomas: the download link for the English version is on that same page I gave. It can only be downloaded via PC though.
Posted by pxthomas
@amby...which version of opera mini hack do you have? I have vs 1.25 that can open multiple windows
Posted by pxthomas
@Aya..No wonder i was unable to get it. I was using my N71.THANKS MAN. Maybe i have risk the cost of using my phone as modem
Posted by brym!
@AYA: Yes, because the guys who did the hacking never had WM in mind and never tested it on one to see how it performs.
Posted by ambyzown
Sorry guys for not responding on time to ur requst for the opera mini link, but I see you guys have found it urselves.
@Pxt: Mine's version 2, (Opera hack) There's a version 3, but no english version yet. If you llike, I could email the version 2 to you as an attachment. Its too large to send via mms. (174kb)
Who did you guys vote for? I didn't vote cos I didn't register, but if I had, I'd have voted for Femi Pedro

Email address is pxthomas@gmail.com. Waiting for the attachment
@aya..i used the link you provided and downloaded a zip archive file of about 170kb. I unzipped this file only to get class files with no jar file. I don't know the way forward since i am not a tech guy
Posted by OluYom
@pxthomas: You must have clicked on the wrong link. The download is a jar file. Top section of the page. Second line. Reads "English V2.00 (PC Only Thanks Tranced

I finally got opera mini hack vs 2. It succeeded in removing the real opera mini 3.
This is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/?5tmyjymzzgm
@Amby ... let me have your version too. Thanks
Posted by ambyzown
@pxt: thats the same version that I have. I want to try the original version 3.
It beats me when people say one version of opera mini overwrites a previously installed version. I have three versions on my phone and they all run independently.
@pxt: I bet u're beginning to miss ur w810
Posted by mamba
@Amby, have you finally purchased ur m600?
Posted by ambyzown
@Mamba: For where? the phone price don go up again o, its now N48k and I get some other more important things to do with money. Phone fit wait.
Oops I guess I spoke too soon. Operamini version 3 and the russian hack cannot be installed on the same phone the latter always overwrites the former. But the russian v2 outclasses the official v3

One major problem with this Opera mini hack is the lack of support for secure sites. I wanted to login to my online banking platform this morning and the message pops up: " the communication between your browser and this site is not secure". Too bad, but I cannot compromise security for multiple tabs. I'm re-installing v3 right away.
Posted by ambyzown
Not to worry, version 3 of the russian hack which is in Beta testing will take care of those security issues, as well as give you tabbed browsing. Its only a matter of time.

@Amby... Is there no way to install this hack version 2 and still retain opera mini 3? It also does not have RSS reader
Posted by ambyzown
@Pxt: I'm searching the threads for solutions to this, as previously, I was able to simultaneously install the Russian hack V1.25 and V2.0 on my phone.
Why don't you download and install bluepulse for a free rss reader? thats what I use for my rss feeds. http://bluepulse.com/business or get.bluepulse.com/ambyzown
Posted by OluYom

it is certainly much more convenient to have an RSS reader built into the web browser.
Posted by ambyzown
Ok guys, now you can have both!
Operamini 3.1 for your secure browsing and rss reader
Naija-Opera V2 for landscape and tabbed browsing
Both installed and running independently.
PM me with your email addresses for the file.
@Pxt: check your email.
By the way feel free to thank me for the Operamini Nigerian hack Version 2.1
Posted by ambyzown
Uninstall and delete the existing Operamini Russian hack V2 from your phone, then transfer or copy the file (Operamini V2) which I email to you, into your phone and install it.
It should install without asking you for permission to overwrite any previously installed versions.
Goodluck.

He he he, thanks for the flattery, but kudos should actually go to all Esato forum posters who are extremely helpful whenever you need them.

@AYA: I dont know about the people you met, but the key word is meet RANDOM people, not affluent people you know as Im sure you may have. Since I've spoken to thousands, from billionaires (in NAIRA OOO!) to gatemen, i have a good perspective. But you are welcome to be a distributor for me in Lag since you seem to have a golden tongue!!!
But there is one thing you havent commented on. Most of the deals that the CDMA ops have on offer have been on ground for YEARS!!! and we have not seen thier rate of patronage jump as much as that of the GSM companies. Im not talking of nationwide, even in a certain locality, Lag being a good example.
But It still stands, till I see Nigerians recognize and BUY CDMA, they will still be labeled as TARIFF INSENSITIVE!!!
To another topic: The election herei Borno was soo rigged!!! I was surprised that our results were among the 1st to come out!!! At my station I was the last person to get a ballot sheet and there were hundreds behind me. I feel like leaving Naija all together!!!
Posted by ambyzown
@Aya, Brym: You've got mail.
@Abubakar: Are you still dwelling on that issue? I tot its been long forgotten.
Abeg no leave naija o, we will need you when the revolution begins.
Posted by brym!
Thanks Amby. I've installed it and I am testing it now. Let's see if this 'quote' feature will work, it never works on WM when using opera mini.
Posted by brym!
Ah, 'quote' feature didn't work but I can live with that. This is a great job and I'm amazed about the features loaded into this hacked version... Multi tab rocks and I can even monitor my data traffic? Very impressed.
I never really tested it a couple days back because the default language of the one I downloaded with the links supplied by AYA and Mamba was Russian. This version works well on WM just as the regular version 3.
Posted by pxthomas
@Amby... thanks sir. Your version (naija-opera) has been installed successfully. I now have opera mini 3 and opera mini hack 1.25 in addition
Posted by ambyzown
You're welcome, glad to be of service.
Posted by OluYom
Ambyzown: thanks for the hack. Cheers! How many of you have heard the news of NITEL/MTEL's recent downturn in fortunes? See: http://yomisays.com/?p=289

Two M-Tel tit-bits I read in the papers recently:
-Transcorp has put in 0.000 billion naira since they took over 6 months ago
-M-Tel is talking to Mubadala about selling off M-Tel to them
I don't see how the Muba deal will go thru sha because the NCC won't allow it since it will amount to one operator having two Digital Mobile License's.
I can swear that Celtel subsciber number have dipped in the past 6 months too! All talk, no action.
Posted by brym!
@Coola: If your info is correct then Transcorp is a big disappointment. You mean all those financial 'gugurus' on the board of Transcorp could not carry out a proper due dilligence before buying Nitel? Unless their plan was to buy Nitel, tear it down and sell it off in bits and pieces? I guess Transcorp is in a financial mess because I also heard that their IPO was heavily undersubscribed and they borrowed to pay for Hilton, Nitel and the oil blocks. Of these three only Hilton is bringing in revenue.
