Greetings every1, Hope u had a Glo-ful weekend!!!
Posted by ihejirika
Hi all. @Aya,I thnk tht wthout gprs displaying it wont b possible 2 open new web pages.Although I'v not tried zero air time browsing since d 1st one.Thos tht have tried can explain better.
Posted by OluYom
@ihe. Phones like SE & Siemens not only display when GPRS is available, but also whether it is attached (useable) or not. That way d user can tell whatz going on.
I just need others to confirm (or confound) what I have experienced, especially Siemens/SE users on glo.
Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,in Nokia, whenever G,wch represents gprs is displayed,it means its both attached & usuable. When it is not ther,it means no browsing.
Posted by OluYom
@ihe. Yes, I am aware of dat, but thatz all to it,as I could see from my old 6610. I had 2 attempt to browse 1st b4 d G showed or not. On SE/Siemens, u can tell from standby 1. availability, and 2. whether useable or not. Very convenient & saves u wasting ur time attempting to browse 1st.
Posted by coolapostle
As you Guys must have guessed from my silence, Glo got me too! Just as I was typing my response yesterday, the GPRS symbol went off! I have remained in that no-browsing state since then. Yep, AYA is correct, Glo cuts you off when you owe them.
What I don't know is whether you have a specific amount you can owe them because I really enjoyed zero credit browsing between Friday afternoon and the time I got cut off. I sent an MMS to Tilly and downloaded a ringtone. Maybe they started implementing from lagos and finally reached us in Abuja. Maybe...
Posted by OluYom
@coolapostle. That's what I believe: u enjoyed zero browsing till the check was implemented at your end. But that aside, the GPRS service is generally unreliable. I had thought I would be able to use it as my primary out-of-office connection, but I am thinking of going back to MTN's CSD for that. At least, that one works with a greater degree of certainty.
Posted by brix25
I actually bought my new phone from a Nigerian vendor in Cape Town yesterday...friendly service although the bugger didn't want to bargain with me over the price of the T68i.
Posted by OluYom
@brix. Good for you!
Posted by OluYom
I'm back 2 using MTN CSD on my p800, meaning I can use Opera, AvantGo, FTP800 etc. Glo GPRS becomes backup for me. Sorry glo, but I stick with what works...
Posted by Angelgirl
HELLO NIGERIA............ MTN
Posted by OluYom
@angel. Whatz dat mean? I still dont like MTN, their service culture, their attitude. But glo gprs is behaving very much like NEPA, so... Yhellow Nigeria!!
My last 4 posts have been via MTN. Using Opera, I can open multiple web (not WAP) pages, and enjoy other internet utilities not available on glo gprs wap.
Opening web pages on gprs charges would be suicidal!

Guys, glo has been showg their unreliability over here since yestday. @Aya,is MTN still charging 4 time spent on internet at normal call rate?
Posted by OluYom
@ihe. Yes o! Boostercard advised if u want to use it for browsing.
Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,I guess tht "ll still remain an exclusive reserve 4 bigger boys.
Posted by Angelgirl
@ihe; why not try the MTN daily booster, check www.mtnonline.com 4 more info
Posted by ihejirika
Actually,a txt was sent 2 me about daily booster. It'll b much more convenient if MTN will b able 2 differentiate b/w normal phonecall & browsing d internet.
Posted by OluYom
@ihe. Yes; lower tarriffs for data calls would be just great. If MTN had the ears to listen.
Posted by ihejirika
If MTN has ears at all,I'll suggest they try beat glo's record of offerng internet services free of charge for 2 & 1/2 months 2 its subscribers. They also have tht tendency 2 cheat customers.
Posted by OluYom
@ihe. Have you ever heard that MTN gave out anything for FREE? That would be the day. MTN stands for greedy capitalism at its finest. 100% my opinion of course
Lots of useful info for your 7650 here: http://mobile.my-symbian.com/7650/faq/category_mobile.php?fldAuto=4 Let me know if you find anything useful there.

Everyone seems to be using "boostercards" in Naija...I wanted to ask does the cellphone networks offer contracts to subscribers or is it strictly Pay As You Go?
In South Africa if you've got an income and you've got a good credit record the cellphone companies are harrassing you everyday for to take out one of their many contract offerings.
Most come with a free phone unless you want something like Razr V3 or a P910i which will cost you some cash before you get the phone for 2 year contract.
Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,there,I see a pointer 2 how u know much about phones.D info on tht site were posted by Nokia. All they have is admiratn 4 7650,in spite of their shortcomgs.Thnks 4 tht.
Posted by OluYom
@brix25. The networks here have contract plans too for high networth ppl, but free phones - no.
@ihe. Glad you can see that I am a 'mobile' person, not tied to one brand. I know the strengths & weaknesses of most brands & choose whatever meets my needs. Only thing is, so far SE & Siemens seem to qualify the most when it comes to features & functionality, which are what I look for first in any phone.
Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,I didnt quite mean some of d thgs in my last post. Its just tht I mistook d reappearance yestday of brix25 4rm South Africa 4 a plot against Nokia.Hope u bear wth me.

@all: The latest addition to my family arrived this morning: a beautiful baby girl! And I am just thankful to God that both my wife & d baby are fine.
@ihe. Nothing in your post sounded out of line, pal
Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,congrats!My regards 2 ur wife & new baby.

Congratulations!!!!! My love to your Madam. Will you now also change your name to AYA-Fada too? Tilly also sends her love to your all. Seems she has been held up in school in Onitsha where Glo is really terrible.
Posted by OluYom
@coolapostle. No name change for me. I was a 'fada' all along (I have a son), so the AYA was already all-encompassing. Thanks anyway
By the way, Areafada has been VERY scarce since his daughter arrived. Hope no problem sha. And hope Tilly gets to show up here fast... Ehm, where's Deeone too?!

To get an IV to the naming, PM your GSM numbers to me so I can text the information to you.
Dont want suicide bombers showing up at my house ;-D
Posted by OluYom
@brym. If you remember the settings for your contract planz gprs internet (glodirect) settings, please post them here.
Posted by Angelgirl
Congrats AYA, hope you will not take off for marternity leave like Areafada
Posted by OluYom
@Angelgirl. Thanks, but dont worry about me disapparing from here. I literally live online
Posted by ihejirika
Hi all. @Aya,hope d new babe, her senior & their mum r doing fine 2day. @Does d absence on Esato of countries like Ghana,Cameroon & even some Euro countries etc mean they lack gprs/PCs or lack interest.
Posted by Demmy
@Aya congratulaions, regards 2 da Mum. @brym The other Fada actually invited us! Missing in action Demmy- ha ha ha.I really enjoyed all the previous posts.
Posted by OluYom
@ihe. We are all fine. My wife & girlfriend will be home in the next 2 hours. About those countries you mentioned, I dont know o. Take South Africa for example. They've been running GSM data quite some time b4 Naija started, yet their thread on Esato is nowhere near as vibrant as ours.
Posted by Demmy
That's bcos we'r Nigerians and they'r S. Africans @Aya i admire ur quote.
Posted by ihejirika
More kudos 2 naija.I just went thr" a thread about 419.Thos ppl r r"ly out 2 tarnish some ppl's image wth what they post 2 themselves.
Posted by OluYom
Have u read some of those scam letters? U have to be STUPID or GREEDY, or both, to fall for them.
But some do show some measure of talent. They could become Sidney Sheldons or Dean Koontzs if they channelled their story telling activities positively.
Posted by ihejirika
Those foreigners who call themselves "innocent" do fall 4 them & they blame Nigerians 4 it.
Posted by 2tek
I just recharged my glo now and i got 285 naira extra, is glo giving free airtime. @aya congrats on your nu baby. Were you in the labor room wit your wife? Anybody goin for 50's concert. Cant go cos a friend is havin a bach eve same nite. @all, have you people heard of yamigo, they are mobile chat operators. Kinda like instant messenger for mobiles incase your phone is compatible. Check out details at www.yamigo.com.
Posted by OluYom
@Demmy. Thanks, man.
@2tek. No, I wasnt, tho we had planned I'd be there. Rushed her to d hospital 4.30am, spent some time 2gether, then I had 2 go pick up my son 4 school. When I returned, d nurses said "Congrats". But at least I was there d first time
@Ihe. If 419 victims are "innocent", then I'm an alien from Alpha Centauri.

@2tek,I rechargd 2day & ther was nothg 4 me 4rm glo.Perhaps u r being rewarded 4 somethg of wch glo knows d best. @Aya,I thnk tht 419 victims in most cases r accomplices in crime bcos they r looking 4 easy money themselves.
Posted by OluYom
@ihe. My sentiments exactly. They get what they deserve. Both the con man and the conned man ought to be locked up.@All. Something else glo can do is, introduce CSD (GSM data calls) so dat we have an option, & can make choices. Also, whenever GPRS is down, that'll be an alternative.
Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,is CSD like d one offered by MTN?
Posted by OluYom
Yes, its basically dialup via GSM.
Posted by ihejirika
It'll b highly welcome on glo.I beleive glo will b more considerate about it.
Posted by OluYom
@ihe. The problem is getting the message across to them. I submitted that idea through a customer care personnel on 121, but I really doubt if it will be passed on. There should be a dedicated channel for suggestions and all that.
Well, lets wait and see.
Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,do u know d current code 4 changing 4rm per minute 2 per second billing in MTN?I'v been tryg 2 do it 4 someone by txtg PSB to 519 wthout success.I learnt it has been changed.
