Hi guys! I just came out of gprs connection problem.Ths is like I never experienced b/4.Even thought I downloaded virus.Thnk God its over.

Posted by OluYom
@ihe. Glad 2 have u back. It seems its a general restoration of d service.

Posted by OluYom
Everyone. I finally have confirmation dat glo charges for BOTH data sent & received. No shaking!

Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,its nice 2 know tht ur p800 is back 4 good.Can u send & receive yahoo email msgs on it?I cldn't do it on d one I used.Tht was why I dropped it 4 Nokia.

Posted by brym!
@2tek
Good thing u didn't go for the 6230.It still falls short of K700 standard. The display is 128x128 compared K700,s 176x 220. The mp3 is mono. As brix25 said "Nokia seriously takes the customers for granted releasing shitty phones every quarter which are basically a rehash of a current model"
Yes, I upgraded the firmware of my K700 from SE site in late September from a cyber cafe. You'll need the DSS syncstaion though(normally comes with P900/910 smart phones).
@AYA
How's browsing on a prepaid glo line? Any restrictions? My lost line was postpaid contract line which I don't want to renew. I only bought it for the gprs usage as I still have my vmobile line for calls and text.

Posted by OluYom
@ihe. Yes, I can send/receive my yahoo mails. @brym: on prepaid, u r limited 2 WAP sites & cant run POP3 mail, or use internet utilities like opera, avantgo etc.

Posted by brym!
@Aya
Oh, no html sites? What's Pop3 mail, never knew that was available?
@brix25
What' the price of moto's rzr V3 in SA, my boss enquired about it today. It's over 100k here( 682USD).

Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,I'm suprised by tht bcos I took tht p800 to glo at Adeola Odeku were I was told tht d problem is common 2 all SE p800 & p900.

Posted by coolapostle
As promised, I put a call to Customer Service and they told me the GPRS HAS BEEN OK IN ABUJA! I told them that the parts of Abuja that are important, like where I live, work, and worship ARE DOWN! And just a few minutes ago, GPRS came on in my room! I hope it is for real.

Another plus: they have changed that there sad song we hear when waiting for the "next available operator". It used to be Elton John's "Candle in the Wind" which made me sad because it reminded me of Lady Diana.

I am at a cyber cafe right now. I will send something from my phone tonight.

Posted by ihejirika
@coolapostle, welcome back.Thes glo guys can frighten people at times.

Posted by coolapostle
Back, back, back! GLO GPRS IS BACK. I am posting this from my sitting room -something I haven't done in 10 days. Yep, Glo GPRS is back.Over the next few days I will investigate the billing for myself. Did someone here say Glo lets u browse on credit? Can I browse with 0 naira?

Posted by OluYom
@ihe. Most cutomer care ppl know NOTHING about these things. BREAKING NEWS: Glo has introduced something new! When u have credit, gprs is attached,but once u run out of credit, gprs remains available on ur line but unattached i.e. u cant use it. Sorry guys... :-(

Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,its unfortunate tht I beleived d glo guy.His specific duty at tht office at time was to set up gprs on ppls phones.He said tht my p800 was not d Ist case wth tht problem.He admitted not knowg why.He recommended a list of phones 4rm wch I chose my current phone.

Posted by OluYom
@ihe. I've been able 2 access & reply 2 yahoo mails via d WAP/mobile version of their site right from day 1. D only issue I had was d regular site: it was javascript & d p800 browser does not support javascript. But thank God 4 dat! Accessing d regular site would have cost a fortune considering d size of those pages.

Posted by OluYom
@ihe. So which nokia do u use now? If only that guy had been better educated! While my p800 was away, I couldnt come up with a fitting replacement.

Posted by ihejirika
I'v bn busy all day:reason 4 no quick reply. @Aya,I share ur views about Nokia's tendncy 2 cheat its customrs.D dfrence is tht I'v d opinion tht all phon producrs do d same.I'll aprciate it if u wthdrw d refrenc made 2 Nokia users as blind.I use 3510i-MTN,2100-mtel,7650-glo.

Posted by OluYom
@ihe. I stand corrected. Will edit dat post ASAP. Of course, I didnt mean it like dat. BTW d 7650 interests me; but bothered with d small memory.

Posted by ihejirika
@Thnks 4 d correctn.Tht mks d world go round. I'm not about 2 recommnd 7650 to u.I knw how much u dslike it.I rarely go out wth it myself bcos no one calls me on glo apart 4rm thos tht call wrong numbers.Its just 4 gprs.

Posted by OluYom
@ihe. I really dont hate nokia. I've used 3310,3410,3610 & 6610; & I consider d 6610 one of d betta regular phones I've used.Its just dat,I've come 2 conclude 4rm xprience dat u get more bang 4 ur money on most other brands than on a nokia.Watz browsing on d 7650 like?

Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,On 7650,I get just wht I want. Rceive/snd email 4rm anywher,get sports news & news update.Tht's al.It was aftr rceivg glo's warng about impendg fal of d billg hammer tht I decidd 2 checkout othr websites b4 d eventual fal of d hammr whn I discoverd Esato.

Posted by coolapostle
While we r on d subject of phones, I need to recommend camphones to subs of my e-zine. The standard is of course the SE T610. The price must be less than 30k. What phones do u think r as good as or better? And why? I really need ur responses.

Posted by OluYom
@coolapostle. Sagem myx6 & myv55: >N21k, 65k screen, 4x zoom lens, special effects.

Posted by ihejirika
@coolapostle,I recommend ur request 2 Brix25 & Aya.They r experts in phone matters.

Posted by coolapostle
Sagem my x6 and x7 are in my list. I hear my x6 is very similar to T610 but for lack of java games. Which is not too bad bcos most of us dont play games anyway. Any Nokia? Any Moto? I doubt if any Samsung will make my list.

Posted by OluYom
D x6 & v55 r perfect.U can look at nokia 7250i, alcatel 735 (both below 30k). Price disqualifies d samsungs,moto & other nokia.

Posted by coolapostle
Thanks alot. I hope they can do what my T610 can. I was shocked at what the Samsung D410 could not do! At such a high price. Robbery! Lets move on: do u all know it takes a minimum of 7 page loads to get here from the Glo wap page? How do we reduce it and save money? I have also confirmed that u can browse with zero naira . That is a big relief.

Posted by OluYom
@coolapostle. Most Samsung phones, like most Nokias, r overpriced toys & not serious tools.

Create a bookmark of d Esato forums (or Proudly Naija) entry page on ur phone, or use it as ur homepage (I have my mailbox login page as my homepage). U dont have to start browsing from ur homepage. If u create d bookmark, go to bookmarks from standby, select where u want 2 go & hit "go to" or whatever. U can create bookmarks to quite a number of pages.

Yeah, with some bookmarking I have reduced it from 7 to just 2 pages. Necessity is the mother of invention. I also found out that the little glo logo was 2 kb in size! Thats a cool 1.40 naira everytime we start there. I have stopped pictures from showing on my pages. I cannot confirm if it saves anything yet bcos I an browsing on zero right now.

Posted by OluYom
Disabling images DOES save u money. Some images are larger in size than the page itself. D way it works is: d page (say 1.5kb) loads 1st, then if enabled, d image (say 2kb) loads! Plus, cutting down from 7 to 2 pages should also mean more savings. Well, when next u reload, buy enough airtime value to cover this your N0.00 browsing! The Glo taxman will be waiting

Stopping images also saves u time.I dont quite understand ths zero browsing thing.I didnt get away wth on d day I tried browsing wth low credit.Glo deducted an amount suitable 2 them when I refilled.How does zero browsing work?

Posted by OluYom
Zero browsing means glo allows u to browse even when ur credit is zero, but when u load later, ur bills are promptly deducted! But like I said in a post dis morning, they are changing dat, such dat when u run out of credit, GPRS becomes unattached on ur line.

Posted by coolapostle
The only thing I regret in disabling images is not seeing smileys in posts. On the billing, I thing Glo keeps count of our data too. Good idea to let us browse like this. Do u know that the naija forum at twilightwap has not had any new post since the 16th of november? We here have survived this billing wahala.

Posted by OluYom
Even when browsing was free,I didnt visit d twilightwap forums much.Esato breeds some kind of allegiance, u know, esp for SE users.

Just went thru d entire Naija thread there: they sounded like a bunch of kids desperate to survive , at least until coolapostle (ajsagia) showd up

Two things I regret not doing when MMS was free: not uploading as many pictures as possible to my online album at textamerica.com and not insisting that u guys send me ur pix! Only Aya sent me his. If I insist now, u guys will scream about ur 60bucks! I think the MMS tariff will be reduced later. What is ur ideal tariff ppl? How much will u feel very comfortable with? Mine is 20 bucks!

Posted by OluYom
I havent done any calculations, but 20k per kb for browsing sounds just as good as N20 for MMS :-D

Posted by ihejirika
It 'll b very much better if glo 'll dvice a means wherby mms sent wthout pics/ring tons 'll b chargd less,prferably N15.They can charge anythg 4 pics & ring tones.Anothr thg is ths free glo 2 glo msg aftr refil.They better make it glo 2 all networks.

Posted by OluYom
@ihe. Actually, I had expected dat they would bill MMS per kb also, so dat what u pay is commensurate with d size of MMS sent. Dat would have made my day.

Posted by coolapostle
One of my favourite use of MMS was sending emails to ppl and especially discussion groups. But at 60bucks that is 30 mins at a cybercafe! Or just login to yahoo.com and type away. I an still waiting for ideal MMS tariffs from u guys...

Posted by OluYom
@coolapostle. Plus, are u sure dat when u send 2 multiple recipients, u r not billed N60 multiplied by number of recipients...? I never fancied MMS from day 1, so I'm not missing it.

Posted by coolapostle
Breaking news: u can send MMS with zero credit. U can also download ringtones with zero credit. :-)

Posted by OluYom
@coolapostle.My experience here is different. Once I am out of credit, GPRS becomes unattached and I can't even browse. Happened twice now.

Posted by bennie
@CoolApos.: how is it possible? Is it on cr. basis? A case where d charges wil be deducted wn u recharge?

Posted by ihejirika
Experience has also taught me not to practise any thg zero credit. @coolapostle,pls explain ths zero credit thg.

Posted by brym!
@ AYA. what's pop3 email, never knew glo offered this service.

Posted by OluYom
@brym! POP mail allows u 2 access ur mail using mail clients (like Outlook on ur PC, & d ones built into phones like p800,t68i,t230,m55,9210i etc). Glo doesnt offer POP mail. Ur webhost or mail service may or may not.But if on glo's contract plan,u can use ur phonez mail client to access ur POP mail.

U can also access ur POP mail via CSD on MTN, V, & hopefully Mtel.

@Aya ,No big deal then. I will ask them to convert me to prepaid. I dont see why I should be paying monthly access charge when I mostly use the line for browsing. I went for it because I was wrongly informed that wap service is open to contract plan only! I started browsing from the day the service was launched. Spent 354 hrs on line before my phone was stolen.

Posted by OluYom
@brym! Customer care ppl can be so ignorant. GPRS WAP is available on both prepaid & contract. GPRS Internet is available only on contract. Say, is a swap possible between us? I'd love a contract plan (POP & Internet are vital to me) but hate the hassles of setup.

Line is in my organisation's name(corporate),may have to change it to individual b4 talkiing of swap. One of my colleague's has never used her contract line and will be willng to sell (though again has to be converted to personal). I will visit glo tomorrow to make inquiries.

Posted by OluYom
@brym! Let me know the outcome then.

Posted by OluYom
Is there anyone else who is still able to browse on glo with zero airtime? Check: if u dont have credit, & gprs is not active on ur line, chances are its not a technical problem.
