What is d situation like in Lagos concerning d marathon?Cos i'm presently out of town n i miss d excitement.
Posted by ihejirika
Actually d marathon held successfully but "who won" is not yet clear. You know whose name 2 expect on top of d score sheet. However ther will b a consolation list called "Top ten Nigerians"
Posted by whizkidd
Congrats on completing 500 posts! :-D
Posted by ihejirika
1st to 4th positions were seized by Kenyans. The 1st Nigerian,Wilson Eku 4rm Bauchi state came 5th.The marathon had a bad side as one of d participants died during d race.

One day an employee came to work wth both of his ears bandaged. His boss asked him what happened. He said,"I was ironing a shirt when d phone rang & I accidentally answered d iron instead of d phone"The boss then said,"Well, tht explains one ear, what about d other?"He replied,"They called back"

@All. Tilly says she's been ill all thru last week, plus GPRS has been zonks at her end. I had a rough time with malaria this weekend too. @Demmy: Tilly wants your phone number. You may PM it tome for onward transmission. Unfortunately, I do not have it off-head.

I have finally been able to test glo's gprs billing, and its been accurate so far. ;-)
Posted by ihejirika
1.Are they charging 4 both sent & received data? 2.Why is it tht they still deduct 4rm account balance long after one has ended gprs connection?
Posted by OluYom
@ihejirika. From what I see here, they seem to be charging on received data only (though I am surprised about that). Yes, there are times charges for an ended GPRS session are NOT deducted immediately. In one case, it took between 5 and 10 minutes before a browsing session I ran was billed and deducted from my account. But in all, the deductions were fairly accurate. In one case, I calculated N5.97, but they deducted N5.96, those kind of minute errors in calculations.
I still say you check both your phone's GPRS data counter and your airtime balance before and after each browsing session. It seems pretty accurate here. The delays in deduction may be due to some 'go slow' of some sort between the GPRS network and the billing backend.

@Aya,I'm grateful 4 tht.I'll try calculating it again.4rm my previous calculations, they've always over billed me.Once,I browsed untill no credit was left. When I refilled, they deducted N65 immediately.
Posted by OluYom
Another thing is, even when you have no airtime left, you are allowed to browse on credit and it is deducted from your account next time you refill/load.

Na wa O! Gsm today thanks for informing me about this "proudly nigerian" thread; I have been a member on this site since I bought my 1st SE phone last year. I have used useful info on this site to solve so many SE phone related problems. Currently using my 7th SE phone - K500i. Lost my K700 and Glo line to bus robbers last Wednesday after Nigeria - SA match. The bus suppose go Oshodi O, dem rod us and drop us for 7up. Thank God man survive.
Posted by ihejirika
May b I'm getting it wrong but I was still over billed in d last calculation. My gprs counter read; Sent data=5526B, Received data=13683B,total=19209B, estimate=19.2KB multiply by 0.7=13.44. Instead of N13.44,N18.65 was deducted.I dont know if ther is any other way of doing it.
Posted by OluYom
@brym.welcome aboard. @ihe. It could just be a case of ur phone data counter being less accurate? :-)
Posted by ihejirika
G"dday all, @brym, u r welcome,thnk God tht u made it thr" all tht. @Aya,let's assume it is so 4 d moment.
Posted by Angelgirl
@brym; welcome to d thread (thx 2 coolapostle):D, we hope u will offload some of those information u've been gathering from esato since 2003
Posted by brym!
Hi all,
Thanx 4 ur concern.@Aya: I caught ur joke late. Sorry I can't contribute much on Glo's gprs costing cos as last Wednesday when I lost my Glo line it was still free. Should get a new sim tomorrow if the congestion on Glo Office is less. More later.
Posted by OluYom
@ihe: That was a joke! Anyway, I suggest that you complain to Glo. It could actually be a case of irregular billing in YOUR case. It happens: one subscriber is billed wrongly; the other is billed accurately. Talk to them. I've had issues sorted out that way. At least they always took a look, and that wont hurt
@brym. Which SE phones have u used, and which one of them has made d greatest impression on u till date?

Thnks Aya.@all,pls I'll appreciate it if other members of this thread who r billed wrongly/rightly indicate as such so tht I'll b sure tht mine is/is not an abnormal case.
Posted by OluYom
Guys, dis is serious. No one has bin able 2 solve my p800's problem so far. Will have 2 get a cheap handset 2 fill in temporarilly
Posted by ihejirika
Aya,I actually called glo customer care ths morning, they claimed tht thier own gprs counter was correct & blamed my phone 4 any mistake.I still wonder oo!
Posted by OluYom
@ihe. Well; they couldn't have meant that as a joke like I did
Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,I just wanted 2 make sure tht I'm not being cheated.Initially,I thought tht everybody had it d same way until u confermed tht ur billing test proved 2 b correct.
Posted by OluYom
@ihe: i expect to have d same complaints soon as i get a normal handset 4 my glo line (except some1 solves d problem with my p800).

We don't have the K500 in SA yet, but I've seen the Rzr V3 being sold in shops. Sorry to hear about your misfortune with the criminal element.
Posted by Demmy
Hmmmmn!I cheated last thursday when my credit was exhausted by browsing still browsing and i've been thinking of what Aya said bout deduction when u reload so i've been trying to evade that cos i 4 don owe pass 5H.
Posted by brym!
@ brix25: Thanx for concern, it was a nasty experience not after losing to South Africa.
@ Aya: I have used T300( for 4 days: too ugly), T310 (for 4 months: quite impressive), T68i( 2 days: boss gave to me as a gift 4 my sista), T610(10 months: most beautiful phone from SE to date), T630(1 month: just for the experience b4 the K700i's price became reasonable), K700i ( 3 months: you know how I lost that). Currently using K500i( the stripped down version of the K700i).
The T610 was da phone to use last year: cool design and loaded features, a real brain and beauty. No surprise it won the best phone award.
The K700i was the perfect upgrade to the T610, with a radio, vga cam, video, brilliant display(176x220 pixels),MP3 player and equalizer, 41mb user memory and an internet upgradable firmware( like the P900/910 series). The design though fell short of the T610. It is still the best quality phone for the price range it is currently selling in Nigeria.
K500i has 10mb user memory, vga cam, video, mp3 player and equalizer, bigger screen with lesser pixel display, and better keypad-feel than the K700i. It lacks a bluetooth and a radio. This will do for me until the successor to the K700i comes out mid-next year. FOR those thinking of buying T610 or T630 just add 9k and pick the K500i - you wont regret it.HMMMM! That's my SE experince AYA. No mention Nokia for where I dey O!:)
KAI, 8:37pm, make I go watch Champion's League. See u guys tomorrow.

Posted by Angelgirl
@Demmy, u are in for it
Posted by OluYom
@brym: U are an SE freak! Jolly good show u have going on there. @ihe: I wish so too, but I'm beginning to prepare my mind to say bye to d p800 if necessary. Looking around now, I doubt if its replacement will be a SE; I am looking at a particular Sagem
Posted by Angelgirl
@demmy, for d records let us know how much was deducted, so others can be more careful, goodluck
Posted by ihejirika
@Aya,I know p800 has a lot 2 offer bcos I started mobile internet browsing wth one.If u r giving up on it,so b it.I dont r"ly know much about Sagem. @brix25,may we share why u dislike nokia.

After 9 days of being shut off Glo gprs, coolapostle is back! Boy did I miss u guys! ESATO is addictive. I will use a PC to catch up tomorrow.

I won't say I dislike Nokia, just that I always try and support the little guy...For instance I hate Microsoft applications...they always seem to crash so I prefer either Linux or Macintosh...a Mac hardly ever crashes.
I think Nokia seriously takes the customers for granted releasing shitty phones every quarter which are basically a rehash of a current model... I think the worst line-up is their Series 40 phones...the biggest con I've ever seen perpertrated against gullible consumers.
It's basically the same phone with something extra added, a different cover and you've got yourself an overpriced piece of garbage.
Posted by ihejirika
@brix25,I appreciate ur ideas.I guess u still have a lot 2 do 2 educate more people on ths.Even while u r at it,more people r getting themselves more pieces of overpriced garbage than they r getting any other make 4 themselves,d crash not wthstanding.

@All: Got some good news yersterday - my p800 'has been fixed'. That's what d repair guys say and I hope its TRUE! If all goes well, I should have it back today, though GPRS has been down here since the day b4 yesterday. I'll probably giove the guys at glo a shout!
@brix25: You hit d nail on d head about Nokia. They are d world's greatest corporate con artiste. How they get away with it is d mystery.

What is Glo-ing on here? In some parts of Abuja I get GPRS coverage but in most of ABUJA TOWN THERE IS NOTHING! I just made this crazy discovery. Am I the only one?
Posted by OluYom
The GPRS platform seems to do a random dance. Shows up here for a couple of days, then moves - like the glory cloud

hi people, bn off for quite a while, had things to do down here. @aya,dunno why my esato posts counter aint goin up.It's stl on zero,I'm yet to have my avatar displayed despite the fact that i've chosen one. and again if i post from my phone it doesnt state that my message is from a mobile device. @brym!, i use a k700i also & i think its cool, i bought it cos i was lookin for a phone that will be as good or even better than nokia 6230, which a buddy of mine is hyping. in many ways my SE is way doper. did you get to upgrade your firmware b4 it got fapped, i'm thinking of upgrading mine but i've read a good number of scary messages on esato telling you the phone might jam in the process! the battery is the downside

I am posting this from a bus on my way back from Gwagwalada and found out that GPRS works along the airport road area all the way to Gwags. I must call Glo! This is unacceptable. Is it safe to conclude that THINGS HAVE GONE HAYWIRE since Glo started charging on the 18th? Our posts are down. GPRS is now like the 'Glory cloud'. And our FIRST LADY IS MISSING. Chaos and Crisis for the Glo WAP Pioneers!!!

@All. Good news! Greatest news!!
@2tek: Your post counter works only when u post in d main SE & general threads. Posts in a regional thread (like Proudly Naija) or garbage and non-phone threads dont count
