Love is ACTION! I went to Prodigits and burrowed deep into the INTERNATIONAL forums and voila! Found 10 Nigerians trying hard to keep their thread going. Guess what I did :-). I LOVE WINNING. I LOVE U GUYS. I LOVE ESATO. I LOVE MY FELLOW NIGERIANS. So I showed it by my ACTIONS. I also LOVE... Where is she? ;-)
Posted by deeone
what's up? u guyz are rather quiet this nite.
Posted by OluYom
@deeone: If u ask me, looks like love has flown away! Letz talk something else, maybe.
Posted by brix25
Do you have dedicated mobile phone shops in Naija? What's the deal with "fake" phones being sold in the Nigerian market?
Posted by Demmy
Hello guys!
Posted by tranquil
Yeah, on the subject of changing subject, there is one thing I've been wondering about; How well is the GSM-network built out, in Africa in general?
Just a "stupid" European wondering...
Posted by koymik
yeah
Posted by OluYom
@tranquil: Not really certain of Africa as a whole, but d networks in South Africa, 4 example, are pretty advanced & matured. Also, I understand some east and noth african networks are pretty developed.
Here in Nigeria, GSM is just a little over 3 years old. Still putting roots out.
Posted by Demmy
...And we've got quite a-large-enough population 4 support.
Posted by OluYom
Looking at things, Nigeria should have d largest and most vibrant GSM network on d continent. In 3 years, we already have about 6.5m subscribers, plus MTN-NG & glo are the 2 fastest growing operators in Africa.

Hello every1, bout d impending strike.Is/are there really any other alternative measure.2ndly do u think d industrial action will bring about a reversal even though d "lord of d ring" said d price can't be reversed?
Posted by brix25
What? Why are workers choosing to strike?
Posted by OluYom
@demmy. I have never been a supporter of nationwide strikes. My logic is, u dont shut down your body because your head has a problem. 1/ Too many people die when we go on these strikes. Those who have never had a loved one in need of serious medical help at times like that may not see d point. Even if its only 1 person, that person is not a number to his/her loved ones. 2/ History has proven dat the strikes are NEVER effective. After weeks of sitting at home, we get a little reprieve via negotiations and then a few months later we are paying twice the prices we went on strike over. Its a senseless unending cycle.
There must be a better way. Someone has rightly defined doing things the same way you have been doing them with d expectation of a different result as insanity.
Even if we will carry out strikes, they should not be "total and indefinite". That's a recipe for suicide. Then how about more holistic solutions, like someone suggested a Labour Party. It would be so popular dat I dont see why it wont produce most of our leaders at least for d next 10 years.
@brix25. The National Labour Congress is calling for another "total & indefinite" nationwide strike over incessant and thoughtless hikes in cost of fuel that has characterised Nigeria for some years now. Its obvious government is being clever by half. D main problem is corruption really. Billions of Naira have been supposedly pumped into repair of refineries, with no results to show for it. Yet our govt claims 2 be fighting an anti-corruption crusade. No one has been investigated or prosecuted over why d refineries are not working, so we keep importing (at great costs) what we have d capacity 2 produce. Some people are making a lot of money from this all d way fromd top.

@brix, there was recently an upward review in d prices of petroleum prdts n labour is taking d goverment up on dt come 16th Nov.
Posted by coolapostle
Ppl like us will talk. But the strike will hold. And cause ppl to suffer. Our govt will not budge. Somehow, the issue will be suspended. And we will be back in square one. The same old same old... @Tranquil GSM networks are growing in most africa. For the majority, it is the ONLY phone they have.
Posted by OluYom
@coolapostle.My sentiments exactly. The unending circle. 2 ppl cant be mad at d same time. A little foresight on d part of one side will go a long way. But then....
Posted by deeone
This is not the first time we've been blowing grammar over this fuel issue and still no tangible result. In my opinion there has to b compromise on both sides in order to make any meaningful progress.

Goodday every1; who knows if the Ramadan holiday starts 2morow,....l heard something about shifting the Strike date to d 26th, ...Is it true?, ....i need current infos pls.

No, they are stil doing some testing on the 3G here.
Firs half of 2005 is what they hope for the launch of it but I doubt they'll have had all the teething problems sorted by then.
Posted by kimcheeboi
at least verizon (vodaphone) has a 2 mb/s max 400 kb/s average wireless network
Posted by OluYom
@Tranquil. GPRS service here is not (yet) living up to d hype of high-speed internet.. Glo (my network) boasts dat its service delivers 40kbps. Many times in reality, its just a tad faster than d GSM CSD I use on MTN's network.. Steve Litchfield(3lib) expressed similar observations about GPRS at Reading, UK. What's ur experience with GPRS like?
Posted by Demmy
Sorry guys i was engaged. @angel, there's still goin 2 b a pub 'morrow.Bout postponement? Doubt it baby, heard no such.

Posted by OluYom
@angelgirl. Are u kidding me? Dis is where we separate d men from d boys. Those of us on glo GPRS will not be hindered by d strike from meeting here
Angel baby, vex & go get a glo line! Its just d cost of loading ur MTN line + N400.
Posted by Angelgirl
Poor lil o me, who bought a glo during the N3,000 promo n dashed it to my Dad as a Xmas gift last yr, little did i know a yr later, glo will be this good, AYA can u help with Wap configuratn for Samsung R220, if i can borrow my dads phone, during the hols maybe i can experiment a little......sorry dont have powerful sets like u guys...... am waiting for ur response AYA.........
Posted by OluYom
@angel. Yes, I can. But d r220 is NOT GPRS enabled. You can use it to dial in to WAP on either MTN or Vmobile though.
Posted by Angelgirl

Posted by dawny
@ Aya I down loaded spider man, tom and jerry, moto gp, under world, lord of d rings and some other once. Is there a way dat u can chat on esato witout having 2 always enter ur user name and password? wen did u start using mms? Cos i can bet i was around d first generation glo mms users?
Posted by OluYom
@dawny. 1st generation? Maybe. Then maybe not. Started using glo MMS when glo 1st activated GPRS. With a little calculation, I also figured out what their WAP settings would be. I was browsing glo WAP months b4 they said anything about it..
