diverting glo to glo, gets charged

diverting mtn to mtn also gets charged..

Posted by Angelgirl
So they are discouraging call diverts or what? , Is it the same with service providers abroad?

Posted by brix25
Please guys clear this up for me... In Nigeria, do the networks charge you for incoming calls, even if it's from a number on the same network? If this is the case someone needs to step in because subscribers are being robbed in clear daylight.

Posted by mamba
Brix, no network charges for incoming calls here in Nigeria...

What we were talking about is related to CALL DIVERTS..

you can divert all incoming calls to your number to another number e.g your secretary's number, that's when you dont feel like receiving the call on ur phone...... thereby if I make a call to your number, it diverts and rings on your secretary's phone instead.

it's just that in Nigeria with the example given above, your line gets charged as well as the line of whoever tried to call you too. that's like double charges for one call.....

I wonder if the same thing is applicable in SA too?

Posted by OluYom
The way I see this issue is, during a call divert there are actually 2 on-going calls: A to B, and B to C. Since that uses extra system resources, there is nothing wrong being charged for both calls.

But I would at least expect that intra-network diverts should attract rates lower than regular call tarriffs.

Posted by brix25
@mamba: I speak under correction but you only get charged once, if you're calling a mobile number and it's been diverted to a fixed line you'll pay the applicable mobile tariff. I actually need to get some clarity on this because I don't divert my calls to other number all that often.

Posted by OluYom
Here's how it works here: If I call mamba & he has diverted his calls to another line (mobile or fixed), I get billed & his diverted line gets billed.

Posted by mamba
what's the difference between call divert and call forwarding??

i see call divert as a call bouncing off from one line to another and not call A to B and B to C as AYA explained, therefore the name should be changed from call divert..

do you know you can actually divert your call to your voicemail number?? why dont you get double charging in that case, i see no difference between voicemail and diverting a numbers within same network network.

If anyone has the time on Monday 21st & Tuesday 22nd, Naija's 1st value-added expo, e-NNOVATE 2005, is holding at the MUSON CENTRE. Here's the marketing pitch:
"WORK better | PLAY harder | ENJOY life

"Make money. Move your office with you wherever you go. Access your bank account while on the move. Transact business wherever you are. Access a million and one opportunities.

"Come discover how technology can so cheaply help to add value to your life"

For over 2 years, I have stood alone crusading for people & businesses to take advantage of mobile data. I have been looked upon as a madman. But finally, people are waking up - that's what this expo is about. I'll be there. You can get more details & be updated at http://gosmartmobile.com

Just BTW are Apple Computers widely used in Nigeria? Nice to see a technology show being hosted in Naija. I'm weighing up the options of buying a new laptop...would want an iBook or a PowerBook G4.

Posted by OluYom
@brix: Nah! Apple are a minority here, sorry. What's their market strength in SA like?

Posted by mamba
who's watching silverbirds?

check out those chicks, mennn!

Posted by brix25
@AYA: Apple is big amongst the design community for obvious reasons but most computers sold(about 98%) are Windows...biggest reason for going with Apple is that their OS is less likely to crash and not as susceptible to attacks from viruses. At work we're actually changing from Mac's to PC's...it's basically an economic decision.

Posted by OluYom
@brix: I am yet to see an Apple on anyone's desk here in Naija, but I can imagine that at least one must exist... somewhere....

@ihe & brym: Where are you 2 nite crawlers (or is it shifters)?

Anyone planning to be at e-nnovate tomorrow and the day after?

Posted by brix25
@AYA: What about me do I count as a nightcrawler? Worked this evening so now I'm quite tired but can't get around to sleeping...yeah, I know it's sounds weird. BTW does e-novate have a website? Would like to know what are the tech trends in Naija.

Posted by OluYom
@brix: The organizers of e-NNOVATE have a website but its a disappointment if you are looking for info. Even my website has more info on the expo than theirs!

Here's their site: http://www.xlr8.com.ng. Another infotech news site is http://ait-infotechnetwork.com. See if you can find what you need.

Then of course there's always http://www.gosmartmobile.com ;-D

SE forever? I thought so too until I started having problems with my K500:microphone is no longer working. My colleague's T630 camera stopped working 2 weeks back while another's P900 keeps going off every 25 hours. I recommended these phones to these guys so you can imagine my circumstance. SE? No more!!!

@oto: Welcome. First Atlantic, WEME, & Prudent offer m-banking. There are others as well, and to the best of my knowledge, it works on all networks.

Do you mean Pantech? Most of 'em are GPRS, MMS, WAP, 65k colour screen & above, built-in answering machine. G500 & above have camera, while the flagship has fingerprint recognition. Have no idea of prices.

Hope that helps a little.

Posted by otokx
hi aya, i will contact the guys at first atlantic, i got my se t630 yesterday and its fun. am just waiting for mtel, i hope they also introduce a browsing product.

Posted by OluYom
@oto: Glad about your phone. Mtel is introducing WAP/internet over GPRS next month (I know they said late March, but ...). That should meet your need.

Have you tried Glo?

BTW, I got your feedback and will respond in good time. Cheers!

@motla: You have to be a contract (post-paid) subscriber & use GloDirect to be able to use Glo GPRS on your PC/laptop.

Posted by otokx
i gave my glo line to my sister but i can buy her another one, i have free & unlimited internet access at my workplace so am not too keen on the wap stuff yet; But i will love to see a laptop browsing via a gsm connection, (just a demo) 'laughs' i'd love to go solo like AYA & make a lot of money. my mum called london last night on my mtel and they charged her like N42 per minute. their service is still wacky though but once you are through its very clear

Posted by OluYom
@oto: A strong entrepreneural spirit in the area of technology is one of the things our country needs today. I doff my hat for the few who dare to go "solo" rather than queue for over-subscribed vacancies.

Did you know that according to a US survey, 38% of millionaires made their millions by running their own businesses, while less than 10% made their millions by keeping a job. Fact: The best investment of your ime & money is ina business that belongs to you and in which you have competence.

PS: How much are you paying me for this business seminar?
