@Angelgirl: Good to hear that you escaped the criminal element... Have to say though that I never had my phone stolen.

@AYA, From reports on today's Thisday the GPRS service is available under the Voffice bouquet while the CSD wap access is available under the Vactive bouquet. I called VEE's call centre and a chap asked me to get both settings from their site (www.vmobile-nigeria.com). I did that and only the CSD wap settings were available from the Vactive page; the Voffice page (that is supposed to have the GPRS settings) is still under construction.. Funny the dial up number of the CSD settings on Vactive web page could be wrong: +234 902 298 1000. I'll try to connect using the CSD settings you supplied on ur site and give u a feedback tomorrow.
Meanwhile, organise our inhouse search party to go look to Vmobile GPRS settings wherever. LOL

@Angel, Your enemies(including areaboys) shall never succeed, Amen! Careful though.

@brym!: Sounds interesting, but I have never understood the rationale of limiting gprs to contract lines. I doubt if the vee gprs platform is ready. My wife's line does not indicate gprs at all.

Hey guys, congrats on 2k posts. Regards from the SE India thread. :-)

@gov: I did not notice we had hit 2k until your post.Thanks. I just checked and I was the 2000th porter :-D Not that it means anything...

Congrats on the 2000th post, where is the creator of this thread?(Demmy)
@ angelgirl, take it easy. & be careful esp. during hold ups, don't use ur fone, only when u r on the free way/express no one can attempt to snatch it then.

@areafada, i'm still very much alive it's just that i only try 2 follow in the background, @all keep up doing the good job @Tilly and Angelgirl - tou are both wonderful. @ AYA....

Posted by brym!
@AYA, I was able to browse briefly using the settings you supplied for Vmobile CSD. Your dial-up number is right. It appears vmobile has noticed the error on their web site and corrected it. No hope yet for Vee GPRS? Dial-up is damn expensive.

v-mobile? wap? hmmm interesting. its hard enough tryin to call with vmobile,i wonder how well their wap will work.
since it is via csd, will i be able to stream vidz and music.

chelsea is the team, i just regained my voice lost it from screaming like mad that beautiful blues tuesday

@demmy: What do you mean by "@ AYA...."?

@brym: The only way I have been able to access the vactive portal is via Glo GPRS.

Everyone, Glo has slashed GloDirect tariff to 35kobo/kb from 6am-11pm, and 20kobo/kb from 11pm-6am! Great news for me! I have since abandoned WAP

Vactive: dialup WAP, normal call rates
Voffice: GPRS, but not ready, still "coming soon"

Happy Birthday! First Lady of Esato!!

Vactive @ normal call rates??? Who the hell is gonna use that anyway...

I'll just wait for their GPRS.

AYA, any tarrif reduction for glo prepaid classic GPRS?

I'm waiting to see who's gonna launch GPRS first, Vmobile or Mtel....

By the way, what's MTN doing about GPRS?? they seem to be the only one left without gprs now.... I wonder....

Posted by OluYom
@mamba: The tariff cut is not blanket on contract plans; only GloDirect. For example, even though I am on a contract, if I browse WAP I still get charged 60kobo/kb. For prepaid, WAP rate is 70k.

MTN will let us know when they are ready.

Everyone, I need you to help test something out.

I am upgrading my site GoSmartMobile such that it can be accessed not only on PCs and smartphones but also on WAP 2.0/xHTML phone browsers (it will automatically reformat itself to your device's screen).

Browse to http://gosmartmobile.com and see if it loads well on your phone. Note: only the homepage has been configured to do that for now.

The P800's built-in browser is one of the most choosy, and it loads fine. Also loads on Nokia 2650 and Siemens S55.

Feedback please. Thanks.

Posted by brix25
@AYA: Brilliant site, quite comprehensive...works perfectly on my precious.

Posted by Angelgirl
@ Cool, u have to earn your free credit for sms, send out your link and ask friends to click and register, also click on 'Free Credits' and learn other ways you can get free credits for sms, the good thing though is that the sms dont expire, and you can change your from title to bear ur phone number or name or anonymous.

Happy Txting.

Hi Aya,

would have loved to try ur site but stopped using GPRS last month after discovering how much i was spending per month on glo.

i'm just waiting for Vmobile or Mtel GPRS which would probably be cheaper.

Posted by OluYom
@mamba: Thanks, and let's keep our fingers crossed on mtel and vmobile GPRS Where are all the other WAP surfers on this thread?

So far, http://GoSmartMobile.com has worked excellently on all testing phones except the SE T230 which has a document size limit

Posted by mamba
Angel,
how do you get more sms on that site?

I need FREE!! FREE!!!! SMS

Posted by OluYom
What's it with this sudden hunger for FREE SMS?

Posted by mamba
I'm getting used to free SMS now, after sending 47 for free last month

12 via Vmobile & 35 via glo...

I never wanna pay for SMS again.

Posted by coolapostle
I am currently phoneless but i just looked it up at www.gelon.net. It loaded okay. But I still advise U do a WAP version. @Angel I am yet to conclude my activation. Who asked for FREE SMS? I think your best bet is http://www.gtbplc.com. Then look for the "WebSMS" link.

Posted by OluYom
@coola: Thanks for the tip. What I did with that site is the future of website development: the ability for one site to be accessible by a multiplicity of browser platforms.

Question: Any specific reason for suggesting a separate WAP version?

Because some phones only support WAP 1.0

Posted by OluYom
Those phones are 10 year olds and have mostly been phased out of production. No point looking back.

Nobody builds PCs to support Windows 95 again. Same principle here.

AYA: gosmartmobile on k700i

ok, i've connected my k700i to my home pc internet connection and i'm viewing gosmartmobile homepage now, via webviewer 4.0

everythink loads fine and good, homepage is about 5.6kb, other pages load fine too, that's good... welldone.

my first time of visiting this site, mennn, you've done a nice job here...loads of useful information...

i'll love to join the club.

@mamba: Thanks. FlashMe Cash is an elecctronic payment system by First Atlantic. U do not need to open an account. To pay someone, quote the person's GSM phone number (and name) and he is sent an SMS that he has been sent money. The recepient walks into any branch of FA, fills a form, collects his money. U can carry this out from your phone too.

Send money, buy recharge PIN, check account balance etc

@AYA, i have been able to Test my phone (Sagem MYX_5m) for MTN's dial up WAP, it was very expensive, but for the very first time, i was able to view a Wap page!, pls i have configured my phone with all the neccessary settings for GLO's wap, is there any special thing they need to do for me to start using their wap?, i dont see the need of going to Gloworld if what they are going to do is just to configure my set, its already configured! , in fact i discovered that the phone already has a WAP setting configured for Vodaphone's GPRS, will it work in Nigeria?

Posted by OluYom
@angel: Activate the glo settings and try browsing. That is the only way to find out

Posted by mamba
angel, only glo settings can work, that voda settting can never work.

Posted by mamba
Anybody noticed this?

if you divert a call to another line, the diverted line gets charged as well as the line making the call, isn't this a rip off from Nigerian networks?

i've noticed this on glo and mtn, dont know about vmobile or mtel.

e.g,
1- diverted mtn to vmobile, mtn line gets charged as well as the line making the call.

2- diverted glo to Vmobile, glo line gets charged as well as the line making the call....

THIS IS BADDDDDD!!!!

@mamba: That's not strange. Seems like how call forwarding is generally done in most places. Anyone else tested http://gosmartmobile.com on WAP yet?

Posted by mamba
Tried it on sagem myv55 & t610, it's fine. I guess it'll work on any wap 2.0 phone

Posted by Angelgirl
@mamba, you are right about the call diverts being charge, infact if there is no credit on the diverted line, u will not be reachable, but what about call diverts on the same network, has anyone tested that?

Posted by mamba
I'll try that immediately, hold on for the reply in 10 mins
