Can you download from the phone or I have to visit the website? WAP via CSD? Who is the Vmobile WAP gateway provider? Still Mtech? I also thot MTECH used to charge 6k /year? Are they still doing that?
Posted by OluYom
@coola: Yes, WAP via CSD on MTech's gateway. They stopped that N6k per year thing immediately they started. Just put in the settings & start browsing. Visit www.GoSmartMobile.com for more details on all Nigerian networks & their data capacities, reviews etc.

I dey!!
although I wan sleep now i get 2 go somewhere early 2mrw morning

@coolapostle...Lots of services you can access via SMS...from tv guides, weather and you can also have porn sent to your phone. In SA you get private companies that lease the capacity from Vodacom and MTN and they on the other hand sell premium services to the public...I actaully used to share a floor with one of these companies. check out this site for more info http://www.vodacom4me.co.za/wasp/index_handbook.html

@Aya thx for the txt,i tried to reply with my dad's glo line (which had 62 glo2glo free txt still waiting to be used, imagine!) but glo was messing up thoughout yesterday. Anyway, am still with u guys, reading all ur replies, i will chip in once in a while.

@Areafada: About the 9500, glad for you, man! Its on my list of possible replacements for my P800. I just wish they had included a touchscreen in addition to the excellent keyboard. I almost cannot wait to lay my hands on it
@Angel: haba! Na secret service you just dey do, monitoring us behind the scenes, ko?
Posted by coolapostle
@Brix News, weather, sports etc are all "Old School". What about SMS chatting or SMS Dating? That's what I am talking about. I don't think any Nigerian GSM network will DARE offer porn. The uproar will be too much. Naija has this (fake?) "religious" facade we carry about. @AYA, I am lokking at your site...cool!
Posted by OluYom
@coola: Thanks. We start publicity via newspapers and other media next week.
Posted by brix25
@coolapostle: Yes, you can even date someone anonymously via sms. That's only for the desperate though. There's only so much that can be done with sms...I for one am not a big fan of all the premium services because many people have paid for content that was never delivered to their phones...The networks won't say anything because they're not the service provider- merely leasing out space to WASP's.

@Aya,
Gosmartmobile is very impressive, very very impressive!!!! Keep it up and God continue to be with you guys.
Can one access an AOL account using Glo Direct with nokia 7610 smart phone? Didn't work with Glo Wap access?
@Ihe, SOME MEAN FLAT TYRE!!!!:D (warned you about those monologues...)
Posted by zico 25
Hello fellow Nigerians! I'm new on this forum.Keep it up.
Posted by OluYom
@brym!: Thanks. AOL should work with GloDirect (which I use now). All you have to do is install an AOL-compatible app. Nope, it wont work with a WAP account.
@zico25: Welcome aboard, pal.
Posted by coolapostle
Hi, Zico welcome aboard. @All Am I correct to say that many Glo subs are no longer browsing via WAP???? Is it just the GPRS bill or lack of compelling content.
Posted by coolapostle
Hey Guys! I want to reccomend a visit to www.mobilenigeria.com The Guy in charge just upgraded it and it looks cool. Apart from Esato.com, it is the only site I VISIT EVERYTIME I BROWSE.
Posted by OluYom
@coola: I wonder myself. If Proudly Nigerian attitudes to WAP as seen here are a reflection of the generality of Glo WAP subscribers....
Posted by coolapostle
....then there is trouble ko?
Posted by OluYom
@coola: I guess people are simply being prudent with their finances.
Truth is, most people with access to WAP are not particularly interested in forums. Email, ringtones, wallpaper, screensavers are more like the things they need
Posted by Angelgirl
@coola; Just call my name and i will be here, am not a Glo subscriber anyway, and sometimes u majority glo subscribers here hold discussions that snub me out, so am always reading behind the scene, until something interesting from mtn pop's up. Maybe oneday when Mtn goes internet like glo, then i will be more frequent. Coola i like what those guys at mobilenigeria are discussing about MTN, just hope that MTN is reading those complaints, so they can improve.
Posted by coolapostle
@Angel Maybe its time U switched to Glo ...eh? @AYA I find it hard to believe that Glo subs still download anything with the present tariffs. Let me ask... how many of us here have downloaded ringtones and Themes since Glo started charging? I think voice and SMS are competing against WAP and WAP is losing out!
Posted by OluYom
@coola: I am certain you are correct about the majority. However, I still download apps, images and tones for my P800 fairly regularly, among other things. However, I suggest a reduction in GPRS tarrifs if Glo wants to make any significant earnings from GPRS data.
@angel: Get a Glo line! Be a sport. If you agree, I'll pay half the SIM card cost

Everyone, here is a wake-up call! The scammers are showing up here on Esato and will make us look bad if we dont rise to the challenge. I believe that we regulars here are honest, intelligent Nigerians. How about becoming more visible in the SE & general forums & mix intelligently with other Esatonians. It will go a long way. Whenever a Naija scammer does show up, they know our country is not all about that. What do you say?
Posted by brix25
@AYA: I've received a couple of scam emails on my hotmail account (they most likely got it off esato) but I just ignore it and laugh @ the bad English.
Posted by OluYom
@brix25: AXXR just got PM'd by a one. The English is extremely laughable, really. However, I wish these guys would turn their efforts into more noble & productive efforts. Like writing stories. I'll even offer to do the editing free. My wife and I are incubating a project to encourage such. We just don't want to rush.
Posted by brix25
@AYA: Brillian idea because Nigerians, at least the ones I've come across are hardworking, intelligent people. I believe current scammers are young people wanting to make a quick buck but their efforts have been thwarted by internet users who'v wised up.
Posted by OluYom
@brix25: You are right. At least they should be smart enough to realise that its not working anymore, if it ever did. Now, they are simply a national embarassment.
Posted by Areafada
@Zico welcome To proudly Naija forum, although i observed that u didn't include where u r from!!!
@aya I'm sorry for those YahooYahoo boys it's quite unfortunate.
@Angelgirl why don't u pls get a glo line so that ur suffering will stop, because u wont ave to start lookin 4 an internet connected Pc to check ur favourite forum, Esato!!!Unlike glo user even when blockin in u know where, i can check on the progress of the forum, think about it and give me a feed back.
@everyone this 9500 is the Bomb what was i doing with those Toys ie 3650, P800 etc all my life? it's a pity 4 any body that is on the net with anyother fone, cause I'm sorry u wont get value for ur browsing.
Posted by OluYom
@areafada: How much did you get your 9500 for - and from which vendor? I am getting one soon.

@Areafada; the issue about my abscence is not about having a glo line, its about discussions that circle around glo users alone, i use a PC in the office which is 24hrs connected to the internet, so i have no constraint about forum discussions, i come in if the topic is of interest and if its about my service provider (MTN), No matter how bad their network is at times, they still remain the best for me.
Happy Valentine Everyone!

@AYA; (Update 4th February 2005: MTel has announced that it has setup a GPRS platform on its network and will launch in late March'-Gosmartmobile.com) Is this going to be cheaper for MTN subscribers, using Mtel, and will configuration still be athru dial up?
Posted by OluYom
@angel: Only Mtel subscribers will be able to use it. MTN people are still limited to dial-up via MTECH's gateway (and others). Yes,Mtel's GPRS will be cheaper, just like it is on Glo now, but likely cheaper.

Hello everyone and happy VAL!
AYA i can see ur no longer using ur p800 on esato, why?
I've confirmed the Mtel gprs capabilities,
I'm currently using an Mtel line and i can see the GPRS signal on my phone
If only i knew their APN and IP add. i could probably help them to testrun before march ending.
Posted by OluYom
@mamba: As u can see, I still use my P800. Its just that I use Opera more these days since I got on GloDirect. Wish I could lay my hands on an Mtel line & attempt the same feat I did with Glo!
Posted by coolapostle
@Mamba, drop Ur GSM line so we can text U when U vanish again. @All About Nigerians and 419...I really don't think I owe anyone here or anywhere an explanation. 419 works with greed. If U are not greedy, U cannot fall for it. The mods should ban anyone who sends a 419 PM.
Posted by OluYom
@coola: I agree with you 100% on the subject of 419. The mods are doing a great job keeping it in check.
I don't owe anyone either, but good men should let themselves be seen and heard. It does make a difference, IMHO.
Posted by mamba
@coola the No is 08053044264
I'm serving in Imo state and there's no GPRS available there. That's why i vanish at times.
AYA, what feat did you achieve on glo?
I now have MTN, glo and Mtel.
I'll buy a Vmobile line today and do a comparison of all the gsm lines soon.
Mtel is kinda cool though, you recharge with =N=1,000 and get =N=100 free plus it's kinda cheap making calls.
Posted by OluYom
@mamba: I was able to use Glo's GPRS WAP on my line a couple of months before they officially announced it. I used it for 2 good weeks before they apparently discovered and blocked the pipe. It was simple, I had the MMS settings then, and just put in what I deduced the WAP version would be. In the case of Mtel, I have no lead to sart with, but I would take a chance...
Posted by mamba
pls give me info on what to input for settings, i'm willing to try what you did with glo.
Posted by OluYom
@mamba: Like I said, I had something to work with. In this case, nothing. But you will need these parameters:
1. APN eg. mtelwap
2. username: eg. wap
3. password: eg. wap
4. IP eg. 100.200.300.400
All examples I have given are simply that - EXAMPLES. Play around a bit & see if you can come up with something.
Posted by Areafada
@ angelgirl i still think u should get a gloline for Public holidays( which we like in 9ja)
@ Memba i can confirm what aya is saying as been truth.
@ aya the present market value of the fone is100,000-140,000Naira but i gotit 4 98,000 Naira if converted from pounds on a contract package trust 9ja .
@all i hardly notice Demmy on this forum?
Posted by OluYom
@areafada: You should get GloDirect (full Internet GPRS) to get the best of that beast. Believe me, its a world of a difference, and cheaper too (just a little bit though).
Yeah, Demmy, Brym!, DeeOne, & a couple of others.
Posted by Angelgirl
@AYA; thanks for your advice, i was able to get Sagem Myx-5m, but for N13,000, its scarce at the moment.
Posted by OluYom
@angel: Please don't mention it. I am glad you finally got your new phone. There's something about a new phone... like a new toy
I wonder when I'm getting mine. Making up my mind isn't easy - and the price tags on the toys I am attracted to don't help much.
Posted by mamba
Aya check out moto E680, i'm sure you'll love it. By the way how much do u wanna sell ur p800? I'm interested.
Posted by OluYom
@mamba: I have seen the #680 and its got great specks. But the Linux platform is relatively uncharted - very few 3rd party apps available for it
About my P800, the camera and MS Duo slot no longer functioning. Let me know if you are still interested and I'll name my price.
Posted by brix25
@AYA: Just interested, how old is your P800 and what caused the MS Duo and camera to be knackered?
Posted by ihejirika
Hi folks!Just fixd 1 of my 4 flat tyres.Traveld back 2day frm d East.Breakg news is tht Glo network has coverd entire length & breadth of my villa(no gprs).I had 2 visit Ihiala(nearst gprs & close 2 Tilly's schol)daily 2 check my emails.
Posted by mamba
yeah, AYA what happened to the MSduo and CAM?
Posted by OluYom
@brix25: I acquired it last June. The MS Duo slot stopped working after about a month. I upgraded the firmware to the latest version and it came back with the camera not working. Couldn't be bothered to return it to them, as it had been away for over 2 weeks already.
Posted by ihejirika
Do u know tht u can send & recieve emails on ur phone(gprs enabled or not)?.One of d tricks I learnt from a visit 2 my mother's kinsmen.I think it pays.
Posted by OluYom
@ihe: Yes; via SMS. But quite limiting and very limited compared to real mail. For example, no text formatting, no attachments, no images etc. But, yes it is definitely better than no email at all.
