what does it mean when a forum message said it "was posted by a t610, or a WAP device" etc?

that a user was logged into esato by a phone or an PDA..

Its a great feature, but could pls sy explain how it works? Tia

@boba, i would think it finds out the browser type and in the browser type there is a code tht it reads to find out or something like that?
Maybe someone could tell us

I noticed this feature at other wap sites aswell. Indeed, the system recognize the fone, so every handset sends its 'id' to it.
Posted by stocky21
i would try that, except wap costs too much

When it says 'posted from a wap device',it means it's posted from a mobile with unspecific id.SE has it,Nokia too and that's all.
Posted by Lynx69
Also if your using a wap emulator eg wapsilon
Does the 'wap device' include pda's and pocket pcs connecting through, lets say a T610? Would it come up with 'T610' 'Wap device' or as if its just a normal pc?

R320, r380 etc are displayed as wap devices too.

I'm not sure it works tecnically but;
When a new
is launced and people start posting to Esato from it, via WAP, there is a code in the script of Esato that Laffen has to enter for it to be able to recognise the individual phones it it sent from.
Those phones, and PDAs, that comes up as WAP-devise in the forum has not had their code entered in to the system, like 280 and 320.

@tranquil thx. So it depends on laffen what he let to show or not?
Posted by tranquil
In a way, yes.
As long as he know exactly what type of phone a post has been sent from ha can add the ID tag in the script.

Is the same program what could recognize the fw and other info of my fone?

there is a thread which describes what all phones can be displayed on site while posted on wap.. i cant find it.. it goes somethin like "this message was posted by A " .... may tranquill can....

Posted by BobaFett
U are welcome. Would be nice of laffen to set the /// fones aswell to recognize.

I hope that in the near future, people who access Esato via wap can also view the images posted in the forum as well - impossible

the p900 can see images posted in the forum no "**image**"

Just like when you browse the internet on your PC, some web sites can detect your browser name(Mozila, Netscape, IE, Opera... ), and browser version by special codes.
To have the phone detected, the two points are neceaasry.
First, the wap browser need to have a dedicate user agent built in, which decribes its browser name and version, for example "Ericsson T36 Rxxx". I think many the current phones do have it, at least Sony Ericsson and Nokia do.
Second, the scripts should be updated by the web/wap designer, as Laffen do for Esato.
@Boba, the wap browser on R380 does not have its user agent named as "Ericsson R380 ...", so it can't be detected even if Laffen wants to do it.

@wapt ni hao and thx. So r520 and t39 were the first once which had it.
Posted by wapt
Yes, I think R520/T39 the first.

What else can be seen with this feature next to fw, model etc?
Posted by wapchimp
Most mobiles show make/model/sw version and sometimes browser type, such openwave. Also each browser tells what language and content/mime/file type it can accept, eg .jpg .thm

@wapchimp thx.
