My k700i housing replacement guide (56K no)

For this new guide I will use the spare housing I have as a "beautiful assistant" - you will see exactly what I mean when you get your phones open ;o.

All info is in the images and it's all basic, if you dont understand a bit try it first because more than likely whenyou try it it will all make sense..

NOTES: - be careful with screwdrivers around the k700i, the lens and pcb are delicate, scratching them will mean a costly repair!.

thanx for the great guide
am thinking to change the housing for my k700
but was wondering if the warranty will void if i do so?

Posted by mrk
the warranty may void yes BUT since there is no need to use a screwdriver nor leave any tell tale signs or fascia changing or fascia removal you should be safe

it's only if you remove or change the middle housing case that problems will arise since the middle bit has the imei and model stickers on the rear!

nice guide
though only 5 pics for a (no 56k) thread, ts ts ts, look at bengalboy threads
anyway nice guide...

Yup, no difference in quality at all, in fact the new housing somehow (i can't explain houw) feels a bit more robust too, the brushed metal rear cover feels a bit more brushed too

i took my K700i apart the other day with above guide and now my cam button neither do my - and + buttons!!

looks like im gonna have to send it to hays!!

fatreg

Posted by Lynx69
@fatreg

You sure you put the buttons in properly and they are not aligned wrongly?

Posted by mrk
Yup, sounds like you didn't align the rubber contacts to the button on the pcb properly, place the button pad in the front fascia upside down so it slots in then place the phone unit in the fascia whilst upside down, fit it this way to ensure everything fits like a "shoe" - otherwise there is no reason why anything shouldn't work unless you accidently scratch or damage something! - in total I have opened my phone 4 times and not a single problem!

Posted by fatreg
nah ive worked it out!!

the ribbon between the buttons and the pcb has come clean off!!

so ill have to see if i can sweet talk hays.

or buy a repleacment ribbon from someone???

fatreg

Posted by mrk
ribbon?

You mean the small round black rubber thing that attaches to the underside of each button? or the white circular thing on the PCB itself?

If it's the button then you can buy a new button pad for a few $ from the above mentioned site!

Posted by fatreg
the white thing on the PCB itself has come clean apart! or

talking of housings

OMG if only they had the blue lens when I ordered! - I can now see myself ordering the lens alone very soon

Nice work on the excellent and informative article. And also kudos for finding an excellent website that sells legit Sony Ericsson covers! Have already ordered a replacement cover as I recently bounced my K700 on the pavement. Peace out!

Posted by mrk
My bloo lens should be here tommorow - I shall post picswhen it is all fitted!

This is how it is now though

Got my blue lens today

it's quite something of a feeling, having something not many peple here have hehe!

How do I remove the lens cover?

The pictures are down and it is hard to make sense of what the text is saying without em.

I got some glue on mine trying to stick the online sticker back down and it annoyed me so much I've bought a new case.

Thanks,

Ja99iE

Never mind, i managed with abit of force.

Annoyingly the replacement cover doesn't have that black net over the shutter hole though, you can see the arial through it and also dust will probably get in now.

Any chance of getting those pictures backup? I just ordered my new blue lens and housing and would appreciate a bit of visual guidance

Posted by mrk
ok guys sorry about the delay, ive been busy with work and whatnot, the images were previously lost during a host change but since ive switched back I will get some images and a new sjhorter easier guid up tonight

Anyone have a pic with the 'blue lens'? The pic on cnn.cn doesn't show it very well.

Thanks,

Tom

It's strangely difficult to get the blue to show up the way it looks in person. Here's my blue k700i.

Here you go

Do i need to take off the Fascia (complete housing) to just change the FRONT LENS or i can just take it out with the screw?

Posted by rayleigh

I am guessing one can just buy the blue lense and install it without taking the whole thing apart? Also, is it easy to get dust under the screen with this whole operation?

Posted by Chazzer3
Awesome guide thanks,

Search eBay for K700i covers, there are so many, I just bought a total chrome cover for mine, just waiting for it to arrive now!

Thanks for the guide, I'll post pics of mine when I get round to it.

Chazzer.

I just had the front cover of my K700i replaced here with the latest one - BLUE I am also awaiting the arrival of the Quickshare sticker - I made an advance reservation as the stock comes in way too late, as my old one peeled-off !

Here's a pic of my BLUE K700i with my case - ICE-25:

The thread is 9 months old, I doubt that someone has the images. Try to PM the thread starter, he might have the images.
