Suitable for the Job

Which members do you think would make suitable candidates for moderator, assuming that the moderators were recruiting?

Posted by mince-inside
Were current mods previous members or are mods head hunted from other forums?

Posted by scotsboyuk
@mince-inside

masseur was a member before he became a moderator, but I'm not sure about the others.

Posted by *Jojo*
@scotsboyuk - Maybe you can handle the job, as I can see you almost 24/7 here ! One more 'possible' candidate is @bobafett ! In my opinion, the next set/batch of mods (if ever) to be chosen by @laffen, should not 'necessarily' should be a celfone/PC expert at that, but a member who can just man the Discussion Forum most of the time, as I can just see some mods here who only pops up once in a blue moon! Also, a member who does not loses his/her temper that fast and does not have a 'bad' attitude! As I can see with the mods now . . . they just possess the 'Mr. Cool Guy' persona !

Posted by BobaFett
I could imagine for example wapt or vlammetje.

Posted by whizkidd
How 'bout a 17 year old mod? Ayush ! :-D

Posted by Ayush
!! For crying out loud :-D

Posted by BobaFett
Age doesnt counts, more the knowledge, responsibility, behavour and good memory.

Posted by *Jojo*
@bobafett & @whizzkid -

Posted by axxxr
Boba for mod..Boba for mod...Boba for mod!

Posted by 50Cent
are u a mod Axxxr?? if not u should be

Posted by whizkidd
Me!? But i am new here. Only 3 odd months here at Esato.

Posted by methylated_spirit
a mod should be someone with a vast knowledge of the forums topic (i.e. SE phones), someone who is responsible and fair, and doesnt jump to conclusions.

Posted by *Jojo*
@twista - @axxxr is Esato's News Editor as chosen back there by @laffen?

@whizkidd - You just don't have to be a pioneer/oldie here at esato to be chosen by @laffen as one of his mod ! You just have to have that so-called "X-Factor" ! But for now, I guess there's just no room for vacancy for a mod at esato . . . maybe we will just be looking for possible candidates here for the future!

@laffen - Is it just possible for us "ALL" members here to choose who is the best possible bet for the next 'mod' if ever ? As they say, "The voice of the People is the voice of God" ! If it will be a landslide decision by the members, then I guess that will just suffice enough that the chosen member will definitely fit the job . . . as just like what happened with that of @masseur, majority of the members clamored for his promotion - and you then concur . . . I guess? Let it not just be 'you' personal choice, but a vote/choice of the esato populace mate! Just a humble suggestion here . . .Cheers!

Posted by BobaFett
The best way is to ask for it in the public. If sy wish to be a mod, she/he should make a thread, write the reasons,why s/he wish to be one and how s/he would make it. Asking is for free.

Posted by methylated_spirit
er... surely it is entirely up to laffen? its his site, after all.

Posted by 50Cent
true...but he can always hear out our suggestions

Posted by *Jojo*
Ohh yeah! I also hope that present mods are rated as well, if they are just living to the expectations with that of their jobs as mods here, there are 'mods' who are 'felt' just sleeping on their job etc. etc. There should be some sort of 'performance-rating-chart' that should be done on a monthly basis !

Posted by BobaFett
But he doesnt needs us less, as we him.

Posted by Ayush
@jn performance appraisal! :-D

Posted by Lynx69
Laffen should, if he needs anymore mods, chosoe a few people he thinks would be good and give them a sort of trial.

Posted by BobaFett
What if next time the members vote for a new mod? We decide for some names, if they are ready for the challenge they present their thoughts and offers. Then we vote again between, lets say, 3 candidates.

Posted by methylated_spirit
By this thread, i take it people are unhappy with the current moderators? Why, whats wrong with them?

Posted by Lynx69
Boba-nice idea...sounds good...but its still upto laffen to choose whether or not we can vote for a new one and if that person voted should be a mod.

Posted by BobaFett
Thats right. Dont think that @laffen needs a new mod, but if its is, it would be nice to make it ont this new way.

Posted by Lynx69
yea, it would help because there are times when the forum isnt modded, like at night.

Posted by BobaFett
Good point the night, but i think then @gowin and @arnoldc are online.

Posted by mince-inside
How do the existing mods break down by time zone? Is there a gap for say an American mod? (no I'm not suggesting Kim)

Posted by methylated_spirit
I dont think there is time zone breakdowns, its probably done by region?

Posted by BobaFett
Its not a must that a mod should be constantly only. U can del, reply or ban even some hours later.

Posted by tranquil
Believe it or not; a lot of you are doing a fair bit of modifying all the time! If someone are out of order you set them in place, if someone goes off topic you guide them back. If none of that doesn't work you PM one of us, if we haven't picked it up, and we take whatever action we see required. There is, of course, times where there is no moderator visible on line, but we are never too far away. We all have WAP enabled phones and check our PMs and scroll through more often than you guys know.

@methylated_spirit

This thread was neve rintended to suggest that anyone is unhappy with the current moderators, how you reached that conclusion I am not quite sure. I suggested this thread because I was interested to find out who Esatonians considered to be worthy of being a moderator.
I have been quite impressed by the answers that have been posted in this thread; most people, thankfully, seem to be of the opinion that a moderator must be fair and impartial.

@moderators

Thank you for allowing this thread to stay open, I thought that it would have been locked long before now. Keep up the good work!

I think I would make a GREAT MODERATOR!!!! roflmao

I'd start by deleting all posts of a useful and educational nature (who needs that kind of stuff anyway?!) and users who do not post in the garbage forums get banned!

If you get the job of moderating here ill mod you in my forum :|

Posted by plasmadog
My vote goes to. Boba, jn- ban anyone whe doesn't use smilies, energetic, mince inside, meths, kim, ayush. Btw, how are the regional forums moderated? Do mods know stuff they speak in those forums?

Posted by Lynx69
There are moderators from different countries so i think they do speak the languages in the regional forums.

I think i could be a good mod as i mod/admin Traders Guild but i am not on at night when the forum isnt modded so i think we need a mod to mod at this time of night, if any?

A mod should've fair amount of access to the pc because vital functions can only be done from there. Can banned members become mods? Or a one shoul've a clear track record?

Posted by *Jojo*
@plasmadog - Thanks mate! You're just the very first member here who have uttered a postive response to my posting of 'proiliferated' smileys back there! Though sad to say, I just have to limit or even eradicate the habit from hereon! As I am making some folks here happy with their requests . . .

@ayush - As they say, a second chance or a second life to those who have violated the rules still applies !

I do still believe that potential candidates for mods must be very visible 'most' of the time here in the Discussion Forum . . . I am not discounting in any way by any standards the performances of the mods here, specially with those of @masseur, @tranquil and @gowin ! Almost - perfect, a 24/7 at that !

@kimcheeboi - I guess you finally have been officially declared a Garbage Moderator here by . . . your own self at that mate - tehehehehe !
Just kidding here pal !

@scotsboyuk

WILL YOU SHUT IT!!!!!????

esato is DOING fine!!!

there are enough mods, they do a great job.

@jn

just because you are online '24/7' does NOT mean you are worthy of being a moderator. I think Vlamm because she is sensible, has a laugh (like tranquil ) but can be very on-topic and helpful. Boba is too obsessed with ericsson aswell

peace

This thread is getting a bit too personally imho. We should discuss the opinion of @scotty instead of flaming.

Is it?
This is a topic on who others see suitable for being a moderator and why.
It would have to go personal at some stage because being a moderator is personal. Not to the moderator alone but towards all the other members that moderator gets in touch with.
Some of the cases we need to handle is so pesonal that we sometimes feel we know the mother of the member we deal with.

btw...
As far as I know Laffen aint looking for more moderators right now.

Posted by BobaFett
@tranquil sorry, maybe i used the wrong phrase. We shouldnt 'blame' or use negative comments. If i like sy, i reply, if i see here a name i dont like, i dont comment.

relax dude

I don't think this thread is suggesting anything at all about team esato not doing a fine job in it's present state. It's merely an open inquiry for what members would like to see in any potential new mod. There is nothing really wrong with that

And in the end IF there should be a new mod appointed it's not any of the posters in this thread..... but laffen who decided anyway. So chill

What a nippy wee sweety! Thank you for that most articulate of posts explaining your point and where you think I have gone wrong. I would like to direct you to my initial post, which in no way insinuates that the current moderators are doing anything, but a top notch job, nor does it say that we need another moderator; being two lines long I can see why you may have missed this when you read through it.
The aim of this thread was to initiate a discussion on who the members of Esato would consider to be a good moderator in the hypothetical situation that Esato was to have another moderator. The last time I checked Esato was a discussion forum and the 'Esato Forum' was the place to discuss issues regarding Esato, like this. Most members enjoy a civilised discussion and having a spot of fun at the same time, which we were doing until you posted.
Your opinion is of course valid, but perhaps you would care to check the validity of your points the next time you decide to post.

What about to come back where @scotty started? Some more such 'discussions' and this thread will to garbage imo.
