just been to the carphonewarehouse they are selling the new nokia 6260 for 260 quid sim free i am very tempted to get it it looks very nice stylish practical and has the same fetures as the nokia 6600 which was very good any body have any views on this handset

it should be very good phone, as 7610 is, but it lacks EDGE (yes we use it in Croatia) and it is Nokia. Ans there is the issue of putting a stupid BLC4 battery instead of BLB5 or however they are called. Of course 4 is weaker and you'll have to charge phone every night.

HTH, take care

Yes, the BLC4 is very bad news. The 6260 has a mp3 and fm radio and the battery standby will be pathetic. Unfortunate case of good phone with bad battery.

Not small display 128x128 ? I charge my t 610 every night too.I don't think that a problem. Absence of edge seems to me worse.

@david sorry got it wrong. Btw is this symbian too?

Posted by lovewalrus
All nokia phones are symbian mate. But dependin on model depends which version-6230 series 40 and 6600 series 60 etc...

Posted by translator_lapid
@lovewalrus - Not all Nokia phones are Symbian. The only ones are those that belong to "Series 60" (including N-Gage/QD) and "Series 90" (Communicator). All the other "Series" run on Nokia OS.

Posted by Ayush
Not at all all nokia phones are not symbian smart phones! Only series sixty and above are. Rest are properity fw

Will be getting one soon been using a 3660 and really like the menus and the feel of the phone had to take my k700 back to many bugs kept reseting its self gonna get a 5140 and buy the 6260 sim free

wow! that 6260 is cheap! for sure my next phone. The only drawback i see is the lack of availability of rs memory cards that it uses in my country.

Posted by lovewalrus
Just coz it doesn't except .sis files doesn't mean it's not Symbian. Spoke to Nokia this morning and they have confirmed the hardware in the phones previously mentioned, are a Symbian variant and as such, where developed in conjunction with Symbian-therefore by default ARE Symbian O/S's!

Are you sure that the 6260 uses RS-MMC cards ?
I think the 6260 uses normal MMC cards. The Nokia site doesn't mention RS-MMC either.

@wal then what's the benefit of it being symbian?

Posted by lovewalrus
As i understand it, the symbian operating systems in the early days showed much potential includin multi taskin (as seen with mp3, radio, email and WV on 6230). Nokia also believed it would be a more stable platform for the future-going back some time though!

What are you speaking?

There is only 3 OS in Nokia phones using Symbian, Series60, Series80 and Series90. Every other, the most common OS in Nokia, Series40 included, hasn't anything to do with Symbian.

Don't believe? Check Symbian.com -> phones to find every Symbian-enabled phone ever made. Do you find 6230 there?

And about multi-tasking. For Nokia that is only possible in Symbian phones, but MP3 in 6230 isn't about multitasking. Sound output is handled in different CPU anyway, so it isn't in the way for other functionality.

6260 is a symbian phone which means u can install 3rd party programs.

and the 6260 physical screen dimensions are 40% bigger (in area terms) than K700i.

it is using RS-MMC. (stated in the user guide)
