I don't know if this has been asked before, but can someone please explain, how, I can get my e-mails up on my phone, I have a pop3 account, if that helps, I try and try but all I get is, 'cannot find server'

Anyone?

Thanks, Charlie.

you need to use a gprs internet data account not a gprs wap data account in order to connect to a pop3 server. The "server not found" message is a give away that you are using wap

pop3 is the server that you receive email through (incoming server). For the SMTP (outgoing server) you will need to find out from your operator what their SMTP server name is as you will almost certainly not be able to use the one from your ISP that you use on your PC as most ISPs ensure that you are connected to their service before allowing mail to be sent in order to reduce spammers sending stuff through their servers

Have you tired the support page?

All you have to do is select a few box's and will send the settings to your phone for free!
(But you must be able to get gprs in order to receive emails)

Here's the link

oh well, I don't have GPRS, thanks though!

Posted by masseur
sorry I assumed you were using GPRS just that I think most people are these days

if you are using dialup then it might be just a matter of entering a DNS address into your data account

I would agree with that. On my old T610 I couldn't get email to work on dialup until I entered the service provider's DNS address. Worked perfectly after that.

how do i do that????

who is your ISP?

btopenworld,

ok so edit the data account you are using and put 213.1.119.97 (found with a quick google so I hope its right) into the "DNS address" field and try your mail again

if that doesn't work try 213.1.119.98

if that doesn't work let me know and I'll search some more

No, doesn't work, it will start trying to send, then will not be able to and then tries to get to the e-mail menu, and freezes, have to turn it off, are you sure i don't have to be signed up to anything?

Posted by masseur
I assumed you were using your ISP settings and thats all you need to be signed up to if you are dialing into BT

the alternative to using a DNS is to remove the DNS and on a pc ping the server names you have for incoming and outgoing servers so that you can type the IP addresses you are given from the ping into the server names to replace the text names

worth a try

after that I'd suggest a call to BTopenworld

No, it isn't overly important, I guess I could just check if people are sending important e-mails before i leave the house, but I'd sound kinda stupid to them, But, maybe later, Thanks alot for your help masseur!

whats the difference between a GPRS WAP account and a GPRS Internet account??

My email isnt working either but I think I have it set to my Wap account.

How do I tell? and how do I change it?
