I know the DS does not have Bluetooth, so thats not really a problem there, but the Gizmondo does.

Hopefully the inclusion of Wi-Fi will make up for the lack of Bluetooth.

Posted by Yanosh94
Wifi it is just for lan and internet not for transfer. With bluetooth we can sending rom for gba without touch the Mstick

Posted by mad4mobiles
i thought wifi and wireless are the same :S

Posted by etaab
Well, they are.

But like Yanosh already mentioned, you'd use Bluetooth for FTP, and use Wi-Fi for wireless LAN gaming.

Wi-Fi cannot do everything Bluetooth can AFAIK.

Posted by Yanosh94
Yes the two technology its complete (complémentaire in french)

I think you mean comparable..

actually i think he means "complementary".

saw this article. no surprise really.

Sony chief warns PS3 will be "expensive"

Last week at Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation Meeting in Japan, company president Ken Kutaragi appeared on stage to discuss further information on the current status of the PlayStation 3.

Kutaragi started out by reconfirming that the PS3 will be backwards-compatible with PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games and support high-definition TVs. "We're looking at a life cycle of 10 years with the PlayStation 3. We're currently shifting from standard TVs to HD TVs," said Kutaragi. "But in the next couple of years, most flat-panel TVs will be full HD. We're releasing the PS3 with full HD features from the start so that consumers won't have to buy another version of the console in the future. For the same reason, we're using Blu-ray as the PS3's disc format."

"I'm aware that with all these technologies, the PS3 can't be offered at a price that's targeted towards households. I think everyone can still buy it if they wanted to," said Kutaragi to a mostly Japanese crowd. "But we're aiming for consumers throughout the world. So we're going to have to do our best (in containing the price)."

Then Kutaragi issued a somewhat ominous warning. "I'm not going to reveal its price today. I'm going to only say that it'll be expensive," he stated......

just saw this on www.megagames.com people:

Following E3 most of us thought we knew that Spring 2006 would be the launch date for the PS3 but none of us were sure we knew that it was. Now a new image helps us know that what we knew is now true; PS3 will really launch in spring 2006.

The image, available in full size by following the screens tab above, apparently taken from Playstation Meeting 2005 shows a PowerPoint slide that has some key moments on the road to the launch of PS3. According to the slide this spring that just passed saw the launch of the PS3 evaluation system, we are not quite sure what that was but we have already sent our complaints to Sony for not sending us one here at MegaGames.

The slide does seem to confirm that Sony will have to settle for a spring 2006 release date for PS3 even though some were thinking that the Japanese electronics giant may have been trying to push the launch as close to Q1 2006 as possible. If the slide is the real deal then Microsoft will get at least a four month advantage over Sony's next-generation offering, provided XBox 360 does launch around November 4, 2005 as expected.

The authenticity of the slide has come into question however, with some claiming that the there are some things wrong with the image, especially the perspective of the letters and their clarity. If this is a fake image it may be just another attempt to bring the PS3 into the spotlight and may still leave hope intact for Sony fans hoping their manufacturer of choice will time its launch a bit closer to that of x360.

Yes rumour has it that sony are redesigning the controler.

Posted by Dj Boyi
I dont know why,i like the look of the new Ps3 controller, and i was talking to a guy who has a 360,yet again, saying that its controller is too big.

Sony should stick to what they showed in the first place and not let people dictate what it should be like,as most have only seen pics of it.
Dual shock 2 is nice, but i think the next gen controller should be smaller, and lighter

Posted by EastCoastStar
i heard the psp would be able to be used as a wireless controller... anyone know anything about that?

Posted by GreenKronic

Posted by EastCoastStar

@boyi i am on wap is that an independent news article or is it from sony? hd-dvd vs blu-ray. from what i have read is blu ray has more storage but hd is easier and less expensive to produce. also with hd they will be able to put hd on one side and standard movie on the other side but so far sony has a little more backing from the industry.

HD-DVD versus Blu-Ray -- Whats the Difference?

What’s HD-DVD? What’s Blu-Ray? When it comes to the next generation of media there is confusion over the differences between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.

HD-DVD

One of the biggest differences between HD-DVD and a current DVD is the wavelengths of the laser that reads information on the disc. While HD-DVD use 405nm wavelengths laser, DVD use a 650nm wavelength laser. What does this means? The difference in wavelengths allows more information to be stored on a disc. How big are these HD-DVD discs? A single layer HD-DVD has the capacity to store around 15 GB, while a dual layer can store as much as 30 GB. There is also a possible third layer, which can store up to 45 GB.

Blu-Ray

Once again, the difference between Blu-Ray and a current DVD is the wavelengths used to read information. Blu-Ray uses a 405nm wavelength laser. But, there is a critical difference; the surface layer on a Blu-Ray disc is only 0.1nm thick. This thin will allow more data to be stored in each layer. Current layers can hold around 25 GB, there is also research on making these disc four and eight layers, and they would be able to hold from 100GB to 200GB.

However, there are some problems. The production is different from current DVD, and it will be need to change. This will cost more money to the consumer. Since it’s stored on the surface of the disc, early developments were very fragile to scratches and dust.

There is a big debate over who is going to win this war. But one thing is for sure, the true winners will be us - the gamers.

Posted by GreenKronic
@Boyi Thanks I think Sony is smart by putting the Blu ray into the system Uhhhh hummmmmm Microsoft is learning from Sony also. How,put a system out with regular Dvd then 3 months down the road announce an Hd add on.....They are saying the hd is only for movies but we will see...

According to the forthcoming march issue of PS magazine:

PS3 will have online service that goes beyond xbox live
PS3 will be a DVR
It will connect with psp
There are alot of games being worked on for it right now in the US (alot more then what people know about)
The final ps3 dev kit is alot faster than they thought (according to the developer)
The ps3 will have an itunes type service to let you download HI DEF movies, music, etc
The Ps3 will take the media center functionality the 360 has even further
PS3 will serve as a location free player for the psp, means you can watch the dvd's that you have in your psp on your psp (from anywhere in the world), or any other video files you have on your ps3, though this is still only being planned.
PSP will be able to send its files straight to the psp from anywhere in the world, and it can also control its DVR functionalities
Firmware updates will add more functionality, much like with the psp
The Blu Ray Player functionality doesnt cost as much as a stand alone player because the Cell and RSX can take care of alot of the stuff the ps3 will need to do to be able to read the disks
Fall release date for ps3, no release date for online service, but expected to launch w/ the system.

Xbox Downplay Sony and Nintendo Online Services

Greg Canessa, the Xbox Live Arcade group manager, recently talked trash about both Nintendo's and Sony's forthcoming online services.

On the Nintendo Retro Service (which will enable you to download their backlog of titles)

"I think it was interesting to see Nintendo's announcement for the Revolution downloadable games service which, of course, came over a year after we launched our initiative internally and around nine months after we already launched the first generation of Arcade for Xbox. I think it was a responsive move. Their service is interesting in sort of a 'retro' way, but I view Arcade as being so much more than what they're planning on doing. Their service is kind of a subset of what we're doing. We have a retro coin-op category within Arcade - the Midway titles have been performing amazingly - and we're doing a lot more in that space. Of course, we're doing Street Fighter, we've announced our partnership with Konami, Atari, and Midway - more titles are coming from Midway. So, we're going to be doing a lot in the retro space, console and coin-op. But that's just one part of the Arcade strategy.

"We're taking a much larger view of this space than Nintendo. Arcade is really about small downloadable games of all types. Look at Geometry Wars; it's our Halo. That's not a 10-year-old retro title that you're running on some sort of emulator. That's a new title that was designed specifically for Xbox 360. We have titles coming from new, independent developers that are coming up with new play concepts and innovative things for the next generation of consoles.

"When I look at Nintendo Revolution's retro story, with all due respect to Nintendo, I think it's a small subset of the opportunity here. To be honest with you, a lot of those games are fun in your head when you think, 'Oh, yeah when I was 12, this was really fun,' and you have these great nostalgic reasons to play them. Then you do play them, and they're just not very fun anymore. But, there are some games like Joust or Gauntlet or Pac-Man that are as fun today as they were back then.

"A lot of those Nintendo games, you know, aren't gonna hold up."

On Sony's Online Strategy

"I tell you, we're still waiting for what their strategy is online. Arcade is of course a big and growing part of the Live story now, and those guys have a lot of catch-up to do. You know, forget an Arcade-style service, in order to provide something like that you have to have the fundamental services that allow that. Arcade is possible because of the work we've done. It's taken many, many engineers several years building this robust online games service that has a single identity and a single profile and achievements and leaderboards and multiplayer match-making that we provide to all the game developers from a set of common interfaces. All of that work is really hard, and takes a really long time to build.

"Not to mention the community, the millions of people that use Live, that Sony doesn't have; they can't even claim an online customer. It takes a long time to do that. We've been in the business with Xbox Live since 2002. We've been building upon that success, and it allows Xbox Live Arcade to exist, because we leverage all of those interlying technologies.

"If Sony is trying to come at us, you know... 'good luck.' It's going to be really hard for them. It's just a huge engineering challenge, and beyond the engineering challenge, it takes a long time to build a community. Not to mention Arcade, because that has its own set of issues. You have to take time to build an ecosystem and talk to developers and get developers to put out games for that platform and work with them to plug into all of the underlying technologies that need to be in place and making sure it works properly. There's so many stacks of challenges, I can't see how Sony can catch up with us in the near-term. Long-term? I don't know anything about what their response is, and I don't know how anything will change in the foreseeable future, at least as far as Xbox Live Arcade is concerned. And, my personal opinion from a Live perspective is that that won't change."

I say have fun with the online..The only good I see out of it is another method for a hack.......

OK THATS IT PS3 FOR ME!!!

The Sony location Free Player Rocks!!! I have SONY new Bravia LCD 42" tv!! 2 Sony PSPs!! I think Sony will be it for me.

Imagine playing Ad-hoc games with ur PS3 and PSP 2gether... rather than having to play with both PSPs. Or (this might be a liltle abit over the top) imagine playing actual PS3 games thru your PSP... with PS3 grahpics!! How??? well the technology is ofcoz is using the PS3 but the video out is streamed to PSP... so its like playing a game only that the picture/3D quality is from PS3... kinda cool!! huh!!

Posted by axxxr
Thats is incredibly cool...amazing.. I will be first in the queue for a PS3!

Sony confirmed a business briefing in Japan for today March 15th to announce something about the PS3.The Sony meeting starts at 3pm Tokyo Time.It is not clear what Sony will say about their Sony Playstation 3 plans.

From The Register

It's official: Sony has delayed the roll-out of the PlayStation 3 to early November from the late March timeframe the consumer electronics giant had originally pegged for the product's release. However, it confirmed the console will launch in the US, Europe and Japan simultaneously.

The exact reason for the delay isn't clear at this stage. Reports coming out of Japan, where Sony made its announcement this morning, point the finger at problems with the console's Blu-ray Disc drive.

I like the specs of the Premium package.

I have a XBOX Mk1 and haven't bothered to update because it doesn't matter how good the specs are (I reckon the XBOX kills the PS2, all day everyday), unfortunately it's the quality of the GAMES that matters.

The Gran Turismo and WRC series are unmatched by XBOX IMO and I'll always be a slightly disappointed XBOX owner for that reason.

I'll wait and see how the PS3 vs XBOX 360 battle plays out in terms of who has the best car racing games - I don't get into RPG's much.

I'll only buy a PS3 when "Ratchet and Clank HD" is available!

Just love those two...

now delayed (again)

BBC article

The launch of Sony's long-awaited PlayStation 3 games console in Europe has been delayed until March 2007

Posted by joebmc
Sony are gonna lose so much money to xbox and wii buyers, me thinks?

Posted by >500
@massuer

Harvey Norman have them available for preorder, release date November 17 2006. For those who dont know, Harvey Norman is Australias largest electrical retailer....dont know if this has changed thought, saw an advertisement in yesterdays paper....

Posted by masseur
well, this delay is for Europe only according to the article but "Hardly Normal", er, I mean "Harvey Norman" are usually fairly reliable but their date will only be based on the latest date given by Sony for Aussie release

Posted by msmmsm
This really is a pain, as usual Europe again misses out, in the past we would get consoles up to a year later, to top it off, borders top and bottom of screen were the norm as well as a 15% reduction in speed due to ntsc/pal differences. With the advent of HD that should be a thing of the past

also just announced that the ps3 will not ship with an HDMI cable ( I can live with that)

ps3 european website is now up and running , link via the ps2 site

March 2007!?!? blimey

everyone get a Wii !!!

Posted by boman1882
you know what i've been a playstation fan thro and thro, but i think that they've screwed up this time, I think i will be buying a Wii or and Xbox 360, they should have got there act together!

i'm very disappointed i wanted to go back to uni and have a ps 3 in my living room to join my psp but now, well now i'm not so sure

Posted by SE Rules
Gotta say, whent he original Playstation cam eout, I was a hooked fan ever since... But this is just pushing it too far! This will amke it a year late if you count the orginal release date of March 06. I've always been loyal to Playstation, but they're losing me if not lost me, if there isn't aprice reduction, included HDMI cable's etc to tempt me for next march, then I will buy an XBOX360 and to hell with Sony, I've got ym PS2!

Absolutly pathetic

Cheers

Posted by gelfen
i'm shocked. absolutely shocked i tell you....

Aussie PS3 release date pushed back to March 2007

the delay apparently applies to all PAL territories.

Posted by axxxr
This will be the final retail version of the PS3

Posted by SE Rules
I know I just had a rant, but I just look at trailers and remind myself how good it will be... or am I just a victim of marketing... I don't want to buya console that is limited to DVD's for games and HD-DVD for movies only, the PS3 uses Blu-Ray for games and movies... so what if the graphics are only slightly to alot better, they'll be bigger with any luck....

Oh I don't know anymore...

But I expect a price-drop at least, plus a HDMI cable...

Cheers

uhhh....yes. but then so are we all, since nothing is ever really as good as the ad makes out.

i have one problem with bluray games - given all that extra space they have to fill, and all the necessary extra development, programming and animation, artwork, etc., how much more are the suckers gonna cost?
