Do you use Outlook or Outlook Express?

Posted by mince-inside
What preceded the error message?
Doing anything with .pst files?

Posted by Ayush
No and i'm using ms outlook

Posted by Cytech
I assume you are using WinXp or Win2000.... check C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
for the pst files... if they are there, which they probably will be. Try reinstalling Outlook/Office. You can make a copy of the above folder if you wanna try to restore the folders after the installation.

Did you follow the path correctly?
What files do you have in that directory?
I've not had no .pst file before and a reinstall should have fixed. Do you know ANYONE with same version of outlook you can copy .pst files from?
I'll check with my Windows girls when they get in this morning

Posted by Ayush
If you've you can email them?

Posted by mince-inside
Load Outlook, Help -> About
Which version are you running?

Posted by Ayush
Outlook 2000, ver 9.0.0.2711

Posted by mince-inside
Just moved my .pst files and loaded Outlook and it prompted to created or look for existing. Are you 100% you have looked in the above path correctly? I'd remove, reboot and re-install Outlook if you have.

Posted by Ayush
While starting it just says do you wan't to load default file folders instead? I've tried re installation twice :-(

Posted by Ayush
I've re-installed Outlook for the nth time now and to no avail Now it's getting more wierd! The outlook folder hase gone completeley blank! This is driving me crazy

The oringinal message posted indicated your original outlook.pst file has gone walk about, lost for good (if not in recycle bin). The empty one I emailed you (thanks to my girls) would only stop the error messages not bring back any data in your original, missing .pst file. Sync back from the Communicator it'll bring contacts etc back.

In a nutshell without the oringal outlook.pst (or backup) file you're gubbed

So wtf do I get the original PST file from??! And how the hell did it get deleted! Could it be the play of a virus? Can it be downloaded anywhere from the i-net

Please help . (

no idea how it might have been deleted but you will need to create a new one in outlook

just choose file, new, outlook data file and then choose which type of .pst file you want.

that is for outlook 2003 which I am running

its similar on outlook 2002 but you don't have to choose what type of .pst file you want as there is only one type in outlook 2002

Thanks Masseur, but in the New menu, there is no option as outlook data file I'm attaching this screenshot for assistance:

thats strange. I just tried it on a colleagues pc with outlook xp and that option was missing on his too but I created a PST file just a few weeks ago on my pc before upgrading to 2003.

even if you click help on office XP and type create pst the first help it gives you is what I suggested.

so, I will read through some microsoft knowledgebase articles and try and find an answer

Posted by Ayush
Please do so. I'm really in a fix Thanks!

Yes! Yes! Yes! I've done it Yay!! I just deleted all the dammn profiles and entered the settings freshly again! MS outlook is as good as new Now if I do have problems in syncing I'll catch hold of you guys again
