K700 / K500 Firmware Overview

O2's changes to the firmware are cosmetic, just predefined pictures and sounds but they don't take up much space. The only thing not in there is the My Friends option. I think O2 branding is the best branding to have, with Vodafone being the worst (obviously).

Posted by EFF
I don't have any o2 branding on the phone any more and I didn't think o2 allowed firmware updates via the Sony update service?

Posted by mwarner
Added R2AN001 to the first post.

If you are using this firmware than any additional information (e.g. changes) that you could find out about this release would be great!

@EFF
I assume you no longer have an O2 icon in the top left corner of the main menu screen?

Additionally, if you own an O2 branded phone and have a DSS20/25 I would be most appreciative if you could try SEUS to see whether your phone is upgraded to R2AN001.

Actually, if you have a DSS an an unbraded phone it would be worth trying SEUS to see if you also get the new release! I'd do it myself, but don't have access to a DSS at the moment.

I no longer have the o2 icon just the green arrow now and non of the start-up or shut down o2 screens either.

If I run the SEUS now it says that I have the latest version.

I not familiar with the improvements over the different firmware upgrades, the only reason I wanted to update was due to the menu speed being much worse than my previous K700 and it is now much faster.

Posted by Britinvan
I have an O2 branded phone (german). With the release of R2AN001 specifically for O2 phones, does this mean that I can upgrade my phone without having to unbrand it? From what I have read, this firmware has all the benefits of R2AE003 but for O2 phones, is this correct?

Posted by beeb
I have a O2 branded contract k700i phone and I have successfully updated the firmware online with SEUS. I still have the O2 icon in the top left menu and the start up shutdown screens are still there. It's faster though and the phonebook allows multi character searches now. Haven't got a my friends option and still get the occasional crash.

Does anyone know of any other advantages?

cheers

The first message in the thread states that R2AN001 was released on SEUS, but then states that the most recent SEUS version is R2AE033. Is that an oversight, or am I reading it wrong?
I've got RSAE033 on an unbranded US K700i (direct from SE) - even if R2AN001 is an O2-specific update, would I get that loaded via SEUS? I'm interested to see if any updates fix the problem I've been having with my Tungsten T3's GPRS connectivity...

Posted by mwarner
@pjh2315
R2AN is O2 specific, so an unbranded phone or a phone from another operator will receive R2AE when visiting SEUS.
Thanks for informing me of the oversight on the first post - I have corrected it.

@mwarner
thanks for the quick feedback, and also for keeping the firware revision thread up-to-date.

Which is the latest firmware for k500i?

Posted by dj_wolfinstein
I guess R2AE will be the latest for K 500 also as both K 700i and K 500 share the same software platform...

hi guys...
how can i find out which k700i t-mobile branding i have?
is it uk's,or some other country...(i live in Belgrade)
i have r2l001 cam.3.9 and i want to buy dss-25 but i'am not sure if can update my mobile on SEUS...(no service centre's in Belgrade )
any help would be good
best regards Luka
ps. my k700 says r2l001 prgCXC125821_EU_1_C
and a last line T_Mob_Int_B...

Posted by govigov
I dont think you have tmobile branding. Does it have the tmobile startup screen or any tmobile stuff like that?

Posted by kobatz
yes it does
it has t-mobile sticker and also a startup logo and predefined items...all from t-mobile
but i can remember that my friend did update my phone to r2l001(i dont know how) but hi is in USA now
maybe i's not t-mobile and there are still all that stuff from t-mobile?

Posted by govigov
Nah, that cant be. Its news to me that tmobile has a firmware in r2l. Go to www.setool.net and you can get your phone unbranded and upgraded. But it will cost you though. For credits you can pm a user called gbrooks3

Posted by kobatz
thank's
yeah it's a very strange combination... t-mobile and r2l001
but everything is real!
and my menu is very,very slow(choppy) slower then a first firmware version (that's also very strange to)
and a camera bug also...
when you try to record a video... frame rate is poor(choppy),but if you turn on a night mode first then turn it off frame rate of preview and recorded video is ok ?
very,very strange my friend

Posted by dj_wolfinstein
I would recommend you to borrow a DSS 20 or DSS 25 rather than buy it now..You will be able to update to R2AE with Camera driver 3.10 for almost all pre-branded operator that includes your T-Mobiel...
regards

hi hi, just got myself a K700i, would like to know how do i know what's my current firmware?

Posted by Nucleus
I bought DSS-25 so that i will always have the latest firmware on my mobile. It seems there wont be any more firmware upgrades since new models came up

Posted by jjjoshi
i have the r2L001 firmware on tmobile but i want to get rid of the annoying sound that the camera makes i have the desk stand but tmobile doesnt "approve" of the r2a and thus i cannot update it. is there a way i can upgrade to a lower firmware version?

@7022--Try looking at the first post in the thread!

does the SE firmware online update works? i've been trying it the last couple of days without any luck!
i followed the online instructions, and after confirming the requirements it moves into an empty page!
am using DSS25 and K700i , please help?

I updated my phone today. K700i and DSS25. Worked fine. (norway)

With firmware 2AE033, when viewing pictures using the slide show, pictures are rotated automatically to give the lagest view.

I've updated my phone one hour ago and SEUS flashed the same firmware version into my o2 phone. I guess they updated it.

Hi there. I wondered if anyone could assist:

Does the latest firmware R2AE have the reply+delete feature?

Posted by Sebby
@ JAGUY85

I don't believe it does. As far as I'm aware, I don't think any versions of the K700i firmware have this feature. I must admit, it's something that I miss (being an ex-T610 user). I'd love to be corrected, but as I say, I don't think it is a feature.

@seb

you are correct

Hi guys, why doesn't my phone have multiple character search in phonebook? i have R2AE003 though.

Posted by sivitec
I believe you also have the same firmware as mine based on your profile.
Asian firmware of the R2AE033 doesn't support multi-character search.

What you can do is to flash your firmware to a european version of R2AE033.

Regards

Posted by dancingfate
My K700i and K508i both have firmware R2AE033 Asian version but DO HAVE multiple characters search in my phonebook.

Why some people here have problems with multiple character search in their phonebook although they have latest firmware?

Someone said this website setool.net is saying there's a new firmware. Check it out.

Posted by mwarner
R2AL029 eh! Interesting!

It would be great if someone with Setool credits could give it a go and see a) if actually exists (You have to be careful on April Fools day!) and b) What, if any, noticable differences there are between this and R2EA.

I'll add an entry for R2AL029 to the first post once more details emerge.

I'm an SE Tool man. I can see it in the download area, but it does say for standalone only, so I don't really want to try it!

@mwarner
as I already said I have this firmware on my phone for few days, so it is real ... no major changes noticed yet. here are Jbenchmark results:

jBenchmark - 2550
jBenchmark2 - 130

jBenchmark3D - couldn't run, phone woul reboot or freeze always when initialising Texturing Test...

@vee

Exactly the same thing happened to my K700 running JBenchmark3D. I'm on R2AE033.

Posted by firewired
so is the new firmware true or not?

I also have the R2A version and I don't have the multiple character search in my phone book.

Posted by mwarner
@vee

Yeah, I added the firmware to the first post yesterday when I saw that you had it installed. You being a trustworth source and all .

Could you let me know the software versions for this firmware, i.e. LCD, Camera and ITP info? Thanks!

I have added your JBenchmark results to the first post - thanks for that!

@vee. are you sure about this?

What's the difference between 3.9 and 3.10 camera version anyway?

Posted by hazart
@T68 MMS

Here is a complete camera driver revision history (official):

// Revision history:
//
// Rev. 3.10 - Changed default flicker compensation mode from 50 Hz to automatic.
//
// Rev.3.9 - Same as 128.13, except for the following additions:
// (1) A line added that changes when the last byte is read when vsync goes low for snapshot. This
// apparently solves the problem with being thrown out of the application occasionally.
// (2) Removed $f FE 02 $f 80 00 00 $d0010 in WAIT_FOR_SS_READY=$d0010 since it is not needed.
// (3) Changed the seq_ss_start from seq_ss_start=FE 02 $f 80 10 00 $f FE 00 $f 04 02 00 $f #WAIT_FOR_SS_READY;
// to seq_ss_start=FE 00 $f 04 02 00 $f #WAIT_FOR_SS_READY $f FE 02 $f 80 10 00;
// This allows you to decrease the frame rate during snap without any changes of the image brightness.
// (value $f FE 02 $f 50 03 00 in the init)
//
// test of ss-sync change
//
// Rev.128.13 - Modified seq_ss_start so that auto black level compensation is not shut off when taking a snap.
// This almost solves the problem with getting thrown out of the application when taking a snapshot.
//
// Rev.128.12 - Added a new sequence to cam_power_off. This makes sure the RESET pin is set to low
// at power off.
//
// Rev. 128.11 - Tried new workaround of problem with slow snapshot and problem with AE and AWB
// not converging when moving camera quickly. Changed back to old antivignetting
// tables since the new ones made the center of the image look pink/magenta. New
// brightness settings for property 0.
//
// Rev.3.5 - Optimized delays when locking frame rate
//
// Rev.3.4 - Changed fixed video frame rates from 7.5 to 10 fps.
//
// Rev.3.3 - Problem with zoom x 4 for sizes 90 and A0 solved
//
// Fixed frame rate in VR now set already when choosing the size.
// Calling property 7 will not have any affect for sizes 40, 80, 90 or A0
//
// Removed viewfinding size id:s 21, 22 and 23
//
// Size id 40 and 90 have fixed frame rate 7.5 fps
// Size id 80 and A0 have fixed frame rate 5 fps
//
// Problem with using size id A0 solved: Sequence name had to be in lower case
//
// Increased frame rate in snapshot mode
//
// Modified gamma table to get better image quality
//
// Fixed a bug that caused sharpening not to work
//
// New antivignetting tables
//
// Increased gain in lowlight mode in order to enhance light sensitivity
//
//
// Rev.3.2 - Discovered and fixed problem with slow viewfinder seen in previous
// versions
//
// Fixed frame rates for videorecording at 10 and 5 fps added
//
// Complete patch inserted:
// ADCM2700 Patch Release 2.0
// Problems addresses by this revision:
//
// Module_Issues.51 - AVE code initialization
// Module_Issues.67 - SCL exposure incorrect
// Module_Issues.70 - Anti-vignetting and zoom
// Module_Issues.73 - Vertical flip doesn't work
//
// Module_Issues.60 - Double-row FPN w/ fast clocks
// Reprograms the flex timing controller
//
// Module_Issues.75 - Analog ref ignite too short
// Reprograms the ref ignite pulse to be longer
//
// Module_Issues.88 - Reinit auto functions
// Sets the AF_init_done flag so the Reinit_AF
// control bit will work properly
//
// Module_Issues.104 - White doesn't saturate
// Fixed with sensor white balancing
//
// Module_Issues.110 - Output incompatible w/ video chip
// Overrides the single frame snapshot limitation by
// copying OUTPUT_CTRL_S to OUTPUT_CTRL w/o clearing bit 12
//
// Rev 3.1 - Enabled I2C reads
// Added polling of register 4 to ensure that the first
// snapshot frame is grabbed and not the last viewfinder
// frame.
//
// Rev 3.0 - Changed snap method: Multiple snap patch now implemented
//
// Lower frame rate to 7.5 fps for snapshot (in seq_init)
// Updated frame rate settings
//
// Changed the Multiple Patch code due to Bug inside
// Address 0x4A9e is now 0x0182 instead of 0x0183
// At the beginning, the write to register 186 disables the
// patch mechanism, the patch is then loaded, and the the
// patch is enabled by writing to register 186 at the end
// of the patch.
// The actual number of frames you will get is the value of
// register 0x012e minus one.
//
// Added size id:s 80, 90 and A0.
// Reinserted vf sizes 11, 12 ...etc.
//
// Removed I2C reads because of problem in platform to read from I2C
//
// Rev 2.4 - Removed an error in the delay code introduced in version 2.3 that seems
// to solve the problem with corrupt snapshots.
//
// Rev 2.3 - Inserted a small delay before snapshot. This partly solves the
// problem with corrupt snapshots
//
// Rev 2.2 - Inserted 256ms delay in seq_vf_start. Fixes crashes when starting
// viewfinder. (No VGA size viewfinder)
// - Replaced polling of config registers with a 256 ms delay,
// since I2C read is not safe.
// - Removed ping, since I2C read is not safe. Fixes problem of beeing
// thrown out of the camera app when starting vf.
//
// Rev 2.1 - Corrected supsizes section. Changed from 15 to 10 fps for video rec
//
// Rev 2.0 - Changed snapshot method.
// No longer uses snapshot bit in camera.
// Continues images are sent even in snapshot mode,
// making retries possible
//
// - Reduced frame rate when zooming
// - 15 fps for all unzoomed vf-sizes
// - 8 fps for VGA snapshot
//
// NOTE! All changes to frame rate must be done when
// setting property 6 (zoom)
//
// Rev 1.8 - VF synch signal
