Just to let every one know the great news.
I went on the internet today and was able to update My Orange Branded K700i with out any problems using SE Update service.
I have been trying to update every day for the past few weeks and to my supprise when it said it was downloading today i was in shock.
Any way my original firmware was R2AC, my new firmware is R2AE033 and yes the Firmware for the camera is even 3.10
Nothing was lost on the phone, nothing was changed and yes the orange shortcuts are still on the main screen before any one asks.
I can comfirm that the phone has all the features of the Generic R2AE033 K700i phones with the phone book working correctly, menus alot faster, You can now play m4a and the delay in answering or dialing calls has gone.
Little confusion tho, My phone wasnt fully charged and the battery indicator was in the Orange. However now with the new software the battery indicator is 3/4 full and back in the green. So i dont know if it does improve battery life or not.
I have also checked the fault log and nothing was reported. So that great news for me and hopefuly for SE.
Any questions just ask, I will try and help the best i can.

That is good news. It will be interesting to see whether other companies (O2, Vodaphone, TMobile etc) can now also perform online updates. I'll update the front page when more information comes to light.

Be careful, one case does not mean success. I believe there is still a problem with the update service as the scheduled maintenance on it has not yet taken place. Some people have reported that the phone has worked fine after the update, but every now and again it manages to corrupt the phone. T-Mobile and O2 are still against using the update service!
It would be nice if we had other Orange users willing to see if the SEUS will update their phones...?

Its just before noon here in the UK, I've just now tried updating a Orange-branded K700i using a DSS-25, got the "Your device is not permitted to use this service" message. This guy must have been very lucky indeed.
Damn, i left my DSS25 at someones house and just rushed out to get it, what a disappointment
Also, a few days ago I had it flashed at the Fleet Comms service centre near London, and it was only flashed to R2L001, the camera SW stayed at 3.9. The stupid thing is, i can't remember what the firmware version I had before was. I have a feeling that theyve actually downgraded it. shouldn't they check for that kind of thing? (i know, its probly my fault)

Well just to let you know, I have updated one of my friends at 9.30 this morning on a different computer (Oraange K700i) no problems at all, one of my friends has the generic one which also updated with out problems.
Im going to be doing 2 more orange k700i tonight so i will keep you posted.
I have also tried Voda Uk K700i and o2 K700i, Both which failed.
Sorry, but not I dont know any one on T-mobile so im not able to comfirm this one.
I have checked all the phones updated and no faults were reported.

Why can I not update my phone to a newer than R2L001 ???
It will not update to R2AA003 or newer.
It is an unbranded phone.
And what is EMMA II ?????????

I have been able to update 3 phones on Orange from R2AC to R2AE with out any problems and also 1 from R21 to R2AE.
Where ever you got your last update from, they seem to have messed around with the version or even put you the wrong one on the phone, (Dont quote me on that)
I would take the phone back to the shop and reask to put the correct version on. R2AC has been out on Orange for a month or so already.

I have updated the first post to show Orange is now supported on SEUS.

I did my Orange K7 last nite almost as soon as the news broke.
No problems so far....much better phone now too.

I just found out that it seems like I can't set .amr-recordings as ringtones since I upgraded to R2AE...
Can anyone confirm this?

OK so I lied.....weird bug where by several contacts would show up from standby address book lookup, but not when looking up after writing a text message or copying to sim card.
A master reset and full Sync seemed to fix the problem though.

I have found a problem though! I am on Orange and have just updated the software. Everything seemed great, however most of my Java games do not work. In fact, the phone locks up and have to remove the battery to reset the phone.
Beware!!!!!!
Posted by darrengf
I think it may just be your phone. Try and re-install the update again. I have done the update on 4 Orange phones and had no problems at all. Java games work like a treat, In fact I have been playing Siemens and Nokia Java as well as SE games with out a problem.
The battery life has improved mega and im very impressed with this firmware.

If you start having problems with your phone then check you upgrade log file. Everytime you use SEUS a log file is updated with what it did. To find this look on your c:drive for C:/program files/sony ericsson/update service/logs. It is a text file. Everytime you perform an update, it appends the info at the bottom. If you have any error messages on this, you may have corrupted your phone or will start to get problems....this is not exact at the mo but SE are having probs with their update service.
Also once you update to R2AE033, try performing an update again. Some unbranded phone users have noticed that once they are up to R2AE033, they then get the Your phone operator does not support this service....even though these are unbranded phones....weird stuff.

From reading some of the comments I have a feeling that the SEUS update will only work if the firmware hasn't already been flashed to a recent version. My one is on R2L, and im guessing thats why its not working for me. I tried again this morning with no success.
Would it help if i put the log up here in case its something im doing wrong, rather than something Sony is doing wrong?
The version of the (Java) SEUS software is 1.38 if that helps. The Syncstation is something like version 1.5, d/led it recently.

I just upgraded from R2L to R2A003 with SEUS. Version for camera is 3.10.
Mine is K700i. I guess it is a general brand.

Updated the first post with additional information about R2AG001. Thanks to Vee for giving me the lowdown on this firmware!

Hello.
I just want to tell some differences I noticed after updating my K700 from R2L001 to R2AE033, I don't know if these are mentioned before;
- Sim Lock used to ask the phone password everytime I open the phone, but now I guess it only asks when sim card is changed.
- When Light setting is in Power Save, after screen goes back, if you press any volume button it first shows the clock without backlight and if you press again backlight goes on.
- Calls list is seem to be ordered now by date and time.
I hope these help. Thanks.

R2AE033 |
Does the search function mean you can find a person's entire name and not just the first letter anymore? Is there an activation for this? I upgraded to R2AE033 two days ago and I still am stuck with finding people using the first letter only.

I managed to update the firmware on my brother's K700i (Orange Pay Monthly) on Friday using SEUS. Went from R2C001 to R2AE033 without problems. Tried to do it with my other brother's phone, an Orange PAYG with R2AC003, and it told me the network operator does not support the service. Very strange.
I wonder whether having an orange specific version already loaded in the phone, as R2AC003 appears to be, has something to do with it? Theoretically, mine shouldn't update either because I have the same version. I'm loathed to try because I hear once you've done one update, you're prevented from doing another and since I have a recent version, I'm not that bothered about upgrading just yet.

@ dmxmd
Do you have the Asian firmware? If so then you won't have the phonebook search function. For whatever reason SE have removed this from the R2AE Asian firmware.

Is still R2AE033 the latest isnt there an update come up recently for K700i
Posted by Alf Nif
Hi
as gbrook3 mentioned earlier k700 and k500 didn't use the same firmware.
Is there a list for updates on the k500 firmware versions?
Posted by Firefreak
The was a discussion a while ago about second time upgraders...
I've updated 5 k700i's so far, using SEUS... my own from r2a to r2l to r2ae... my girlfriends in the same order... and three friends phones from r2aa to r2ae...
All phones are operator-free...
No problems yet...

@ willobrien
I've got the same problem trying to update my Orange K700i with R2AC. There does seem to be a problem updating from this firmware, although I have read some have managed it.

Thats wierd! Hope SE bring that feature back in the next firmware.
Posted by govigov
How come i have the search option?
Posted by whizkidd
Might be somewhat different for the K500.
Posted by govigov
Nah, K700 too has that option.
Posted by whizkidd
Then i guess we don't get the asian version here! Might be the european version itself!
Posted by govigov
:p
Posted by whizkidd
Did you notice that most phones here have german, french etc in the languages option? So i think we're getting the european version.
Posted by govigov
:-( i only have english + russian!
Posted by whizkidd
Why bother? As long as your phones working ok!

Hi,
I tried updating my firmware using Davinci which seemed to work but then my phone wouldnt turn on so I had to flash again using the recovery firmware.
I then was able to run the Sony Update Service and it succesfully flashed my phone but to R2AN001 and I cant find any info to find out how old this version is.
I'm happy with it as the main reason I wanted to get the update was to improve the menu speed as I noticed it is slower than my old K700 (which was stolen) and it now seems to be faster.
And I have tried searching for this firmware version on here and on Google.
Any info?
Thanks

Hi welcome to Esato. There was a R2N001 version as listed on the 1st post of this thread. That was a Netherlands version. You might want to recheck.
Posted by EFF
I did see that on the first page but that is R2N001 and mine is R2AN001. Are they the same?

That firmware is not known (at least to me and many others). Post some more info... like: What's the camera version? Searchable phonebook? Is the firmware for a branded phone? Can you post a picture of the firmware display?
A lot of people here know a lot of things about latest firmware, but none of them has heard of R2AN001...
Posted by EFF
R2AN001
LCD 200404041
Camera 3.10
ITP CXC 125 813 R2C
The phone was unlocked but o2 branded until I done the flashes with Davinci and then run the SE update which then flashed my phone to the current version.
Not too sure what you mean by search but there is no search option on my phonebook just the normal entering of the first few letters to find your contact.
Posted by mrao
Hmmm..Interesting. I'm sure we have a lot of people around here who would find this interesting too.
Posted by mrao
This is possibly an operator firmware version.
Posted by vee
@eff
is your phone maybe from O2 (Germany or UK)?
Posted by EFF
It's o2 UK.
Posted by vee
well that should be the answer. I think R2AN001 is operator specific version for O2 UK and DE. only some bug fixes. I am no aware of any new versions for other ones.
Posted by mrao
@vee, i tought too that this was most likely to be operator specific firware. I had a question though, does operator specific firmware limit the functionality offered by the original manufacturer fw. OR does it possibly improve it?? I would think it is likely to restrict some aspects
Posted by vee
well it loads probably operator specific changes in firmware. as far as I know O2 customized only few parts of firmware.
