Yup, the SEUS was buggy before and still is up to now that's why I dont try using it anymore! It's really weird that the other unofficial solutions work better than the official one (as in my case)..I've seen/read more problems with SEUS than all the unoffial ones combined.

@sweetmate
As requested, I have noted that support for all UK branded mobiles on SEUS has been removed since the introduction of R2AE033.
If anyone can still perform updates on a branded phone (from any country), let me know and I will note this in the first post.
Posted by DCUK7
I have been saying for weeks now in various threads that the update service is still not working correctly yet people still try and use it!
It sounds strange but you would be better off using the unofficial solutions. At least then you can control what firmware region and language pack goes on your phone!
I recommend using SETOOL for silencing the camera shutter. When you download this it gives you the xml file which you can edit. The camera shutter sound is a true or false value, then you update firmware and you have silenced shutter, or you could use SETOOL to replace the shutter sound. I think the shutter sound is in AMR format. As soon as EMMA II is back up I will be able to try and replace the shutter sound plus a few message tones too! Can't wait!

This setool thing looks great - you know where
I can get it and find how to use it ?
Same for Da vinci, is there a faq about that for us newbies ?
Posted by gbrooks3
@gwendal
Go here for information on Setool server. To use setool, need either a T28 serial cable or a Fighter USB cable for fast flashing. Then you will need to purchase a Credit, 1 for unlocking and another for flash. (decustomize/upgrade)

@gbrooks3 & ~DC:UK~
Is it possible to actually remove the camera sound using SETool without pressing "C" button as I now have to (I used Davinci)?
Posted by gbrooks3
Well, i am not totally sure as i dont often use Setool for this feature but you can change the camera sound. Therefore if you create a "blank" camerashutter.amr file then write it to the phone, you wont have any sound due to the blank sound file.
@vee has more experience in this feature than myself. I am sure he will post the correct method if mine is wrong.

@gbrooks3
Yes, I just read their pdf-file explaining how to replace sound files. 3 problems: 1) Whats the exact name of the sound to be replaced? 2) How do I create an empty sound file? 3) Where do I buy some credits?
Am I right that I don't have to reflash my phone, only replace a single file using their instructions? How about master reset? Will I have to do that (because then all of my settings will be gone anyway...)?
Posted by vee
yes gbrooks is right... you can replace original sound with any other sound so you can also replace it with silent sound. I'll test it in next few days and will post result. if anyone wants to try here are the instructions:
http://www.setool.net/write_files.rar
and also look at the support forum on setool site for paths etc.
Posted by CyberVisitor
@vee
I read that file and I know now how to set things up, I just don't know what the camera sound name is... I figure I need the exact name in order to replace it...
AAarghh, stupid me... the name is mentioned above...

@Cyber
you need exact name and exact file path... please check setool support forum, because there are few threads about it... I tried to find it, but couldn't as Icurrently I have some problems with my computer...
Posted by gbrooks3
@CyberVisitor
hehe, yes i gave you camerashutter.amr above. By the way 1 credit will be deducted for each file written i believe. however you can add more than one file to a script.

no 1 credit will be taken for each action... in script (txt file) you can write any number of sounds, for example fith one credits you can replace all 6 SMS alerts, camera shutter sound, startup and shutdown screen, etc...
Posted by CyberVisitor
Anyone with an empty .amr-file? PM me and I'll give you my email address.
Posted by CyberVisitor
Here's what I did: I created a new text file (0 bytes) and renamed it exactly "camerashutter.amr". The icon changed into the expected icon and the file is 0 byte. Will this file do, or does it actually have to contain some recording (I have no software that can fix it).
Posted by gbrooks3
you need to add this script to the txt doc you created
deletefile:/tpa/preset/system/sound/camerashutter.amr
camerashutter.amr
/tpa/preset/system/sound/camerashutter.amr
and then find an amr file you want.
Posted by CyberVisitor
@gbrooks3
What should the name of the text file be that holds the text you mentioned? sms.txt as they write at SETool seems like only for changing message sounds...
Posted by gbrooks3
I dont think it matters, although i am not sure. Name it camerashutter.txt
then add the script and get the amr file. Best thing is to just test. If it screws up i will just give you some more credits to reflash your phone.
I have one worry about the amr you created. If the phone cant play it, it may kind of crash. But we can test and find out when the servers are up, if your brave enogh of course.
Posted by gbrooks3
I am trying to create you an amr file now.
Posted by CyberVisitor
@gbrooks3
I sent the "empty" amr file I created to my phone to see how it reacted. There's a popup window saying the sound can't be played when I try to play it... I think it will crash the phone if I load it to it's system! Probably need a "real" amr file that is silent.
Posted by DCUK7
You could always make a recording on the phone, they are saved in AMR format. I might see if I can record the sound the T610 camera shutter makes or the one my iPAQ makes. At least they sound like camera shutters!
Posted by gbrooks3
what format does your phone record sound in? record a very short silent sound file from your phone. I cant remember if its amr or wav. If wav then it can be easily converted to amr anyway.
Posted by CyberVisitor
@gbrooks3
Recording a silent sound using the phone is possible. It saves in amr format. BUT I can only record at least 3 seconds! I don't want to send a file that is too long... it might slow down taking pictures (or...?).
Posted by gbrooks3
ok, well nearly there. i hope. will send you the file when done.
Posted by gbrooks3
@CyberVisitor
Have got you a silent wav file of length 0.75 seconds. Having a bit of trouble converting it to amr format. bare with me.

@all
to get rid of camera shutter sound using setool you need to delete camerashutter.mid
only need to delete it, no need to write any other file... only if you want to replace it with some other sound you need to delete and then write another file with different sound, but the same name...
check this for general info how to di it: http://www.setool.net/write_files.rar
the path (the only line you need in *.txt file) to delete totally camera shutter sound is:
deletefile:/tpa/preset/system/sound/camerashutter.mid

"video.mid" was deleted from the K700i and now there is no sound whatsoever when recording video. It worked
Posted by CyberVisitor
@vee
I just noticed something interesting. When using SETool to remove sounds or change them into something else, like message alert 5 above, then there is actually another version of the old sound left inside the phone... and it plays too!
Here's the situation. If you replace message alert 5 with your own midi file then the new file plays "through the phones loudspeaker" BUT if you are making a phone call when you recieve an sms, then THE OLD SOUND IS PLAYED DURING THE CONVERSATION INSIDE THE PHONES SPEAKER and you can hear it!!!
This is very strange. There must be a duplicate version of each sound file stored somewhere inside the phones firmware that we don't know of!
The above also goes for the camera/video sound. If they are removed, then everything is working as you want, well almost, because if YOU MAKE A PHONE CALL AND TAKE A PICTURE WHILE ON THE PHONE THEN YOU WILL HEAR THE SOUND ANYWAY inside the small built in speaker to your ear (as above for message alerts that are changed). This proves that each sound has two different versions inside the phone: ONE FOR THE REAL LOUDSPEAKER WHEN OFF THE HOOK and ONE FOR THE SMALL LOUDSPEAKER DURING A PHONECALL!
1) Who has any theory where these sound files are stored (the path to them for a script to use with SETool) and/or 2) What format
are they in (.mid, amr or other)?
There are lot's of different sounds that plays during a phone call (like the sound for initiating the recording of the conversation) and they are NOT in the above list you posted vee! The sounds you posted only goes for the sounds that play in the phones "real" loudspeaker when you are NOT in a phone call.

Well, that explains the AMR version of the camerashutter which I changed then found out the MIDI version is the one you must change. Where I am gonna find a camera shutter sound in MIDI format is beyond me but the T610 has it so it must be possible (I know I could delete the camera shutter but I want some sound on the shutter just not that default thing).
I have noticed that there are two versions of the sounds. I remember checking my e-mails and when I got a new one the message alert 1 came from the earpiece speaker.
I think you'd be hard pushed to guess where these files are!
Posted by CyberVisitor
@~DC:UK~
According to the log in SETool I managed to delete a file called camerashutter.amr (besides camerashutter.mid) but the camera sound is still there "in the backgeound" when making a phone call. So, any amr files with the same name in the same directory isn't the ones that are the "duplicate" ones...
Posted by vee
hi, I'll look around and let you know if I find soemthing interesting
Posted by DCUK7
I tested mine by dialing my voicemail and taking a picture and sure enough the camerashutter.amr I uploaded to my phone was the sound that I heard.
Maybe there are AMR versions of the sms tones, it might be worth trying a delete command on messagealert1.amr and see what happens. Obviously this would be better if the person had an unlimited account so it doesn't cost you anything.
Posted by vee
here are some more *.amr names...
camerashutter.amr
disconnected.amr
discreet.amr
failure.amr
lowbattery.amr
messagealert1.amr
messagealert2.amr
messagealert3.amr
messagealert4.amr
messagealert5.amr
messagealert6.amr
notification.amr
progress.amr
reminder.amr
retrysuccess.amr
success.amr
I have really no time to test.

@~DC:UK~
I successfully deleted camerashutter.amr but the sound is still there when taking a picture when making a call. That's wierd when you say you have managed to replace it and that new sound is played when taking pictures while making a call. Are you sure it's the new sound and not the old?
I know this is not a big deal (to those who wonder why I think this is so important), but it's not about that - it's about tracking down the sound that plays when recording a phone call and that also plays for the other one on the other side of the line (who hears that the conversation is actually being recorded)... I want to delete that sound...
I figure it's either discreet.amr or progress.amr. Anyone with an idea which is played when?

@all
Hmm... I now converted the midi sequence that I uploaded to the phone (that replaced messagealert5.mid yesterday) to a amr file. Replaced messagealert5.amr and I can now tell that the same sound is played in the phone when making a phone call and I recieve an sms as it plays when I'm not making a phone call. That's great! So, remember, if you want to change a message alert you ALSO need to convert the midi sound to an amr file and upload it to the phone with the same name of the file but with the amr extension instead of mid.
BUT I also deleted camerashutter.amr again and the sound is still playing when taking a picture while making a phone call - now that's wird!
Still trying to figure out the name of the amr file that plays when recording a phone call. It's really useless to have that feature now when the sound is playing every 20 second (the other person knows you are recording the phone call). In some countries (like my country) it's legal to record your own phone call without letting the other person know that you are recording it.
Posted by DCUK7
@ CyberVisitor
Good luck finding that one! I agree that sound is annoying and would best be removed. As to what it may be I have no idea. You could always go on the SETOOL forum and ask the mod (think his nick is The_Laser) to try deleting those sounds on his V800, he seems willing to try anything on it, no guts, no glory kinda thing!
Posted by CyberVisitor
@all
I finally figured out why the camera sound is still there when taking a picture when making a phone call! Here's the situation. If you delete an amr file that is supposed to play when making a phone call, then a default "beep" sound is played instead. This goes for all amr files! It's only when deleting a midi file (those sounds are supposed to play when not making a phone call) you don't have to upload an empty sound. If you delete an amr file, you need to upload a new one. In my case it's simple. I wanted no camera sound when taking a picture and I'm making a phone call. So I uploaded a complete empty amr file named camerashutter.amr and when it plays = no sound!
I'm still looking for the names of the two different sounds that plays when you record a phone call (one is the initial sound, and the second is the one that beeps every 20 second to remind that recording is turned on). Anyone who figures it out, please post it here!

Hey there,
I believe this is true as some people who have upgraded via SEUS are now on the latest version of the firmware. I'm also on R2L001 and after two tries on SEUS, I still have the same firmware. Didn't get the error message like yours, but I thought my experience may shed some light. FYI I'm in the Philippines.

Noticed that "Auto save on SIM" is back in R2AE033. I think its a good feature, nice to have it back.

@webdude
Hello, welcome to esato.
Thanks for posting that, but i think it is public knowledge already. Still, it never hurts to refresh peoples memories. Also the K500i does not use the same Firmware as the K700i but it is in the same format.
