@MeG:

I have tested it, and I cannot confirm this. I got R2L001 (again) 20 minutes ago.

@iamcrunchie:

I have EU1 firmware and EU4 customization. What is your data?
Did you just fool me?

Posted by bUGG
Nope, I think is still R2L. Is better go to the service center to update, safe. I believe most of you is still under warranty

Posted by eolivas
I'm on R2AA003 and it takes over 2 seconds when dialing a contact.. I mean from the time I hit send the screen freezes for 2.5 seconds then I see the Calling screen!

this seems excessive! Others seeing this bug? Anyway to correct or lower the time???

thanks!

Hija,
I have a SE k500i and how could i disable that noise that the camera makes when i take a shot???

tnx.

Posted by DCUK7
You will find SE change the firmware on there a lot. Some people had managed to get R2AA from there when it came out a few months ago. Not sure for their reason behind this though!

Posted by ja@mx
on R2AE EU1, when dialing out a contact that has a p and additional numbers example: +18001234567p1334445555, sometimes the phone sends out the tones immediatly, sometimes it hangs for about 10 seconds and then sends them. Has anybody had anything like this happenend?

Posted by mwarner
Updated the first post to note that Asian versions of R2AE (and possibly R2AA) have the quicksearch facility disabled. Thanks to ~DC:UK~ for the research!!

Posted by smjohns
Apparently SE are using their service centres as guinea pigs for R2AE003 as if anything goes wrong with it, they are the best people to fix the phones. If all goes well with the service centres then they will update the online update side of things.....Not sure how long this will take. Shame we don't have some SE staff as members of this forum as their inside knowledge would be very useful !!

I have asked this question before. This problem exists on R2A and R2L too. I wish SE would sort this delay out...

Posted by mwarner
Updated the first post with some additional information about the camera driver changes in R2AE. Thanks to Matt P for pointing this out to me!

Posted by Screwston
i just flashed using the DaVinci Team and i dont really see a difference in the camera. i still get noise and from what ive seen other people post using the 3.10 driver i should get that much noise. anybody else have this problem?

Posted by govigov
@warner, asian version too have the phone book search option and i can confirm it. (At least in india they do.)

Posted by prince_inc
My K700 can't save all contact to SIM... only name that have 2 letter. It's very annoying me now I'm using R2L001, bought my phone in Thailand

plz fix it!

Posted by CyberVisitor
@Screwston

That's normal even with the new firmware. The new firmware only improves the camera slightly... there's really not much of a difference - for sure!

Posted by DCUK7
@ smjohns

The reason that the update service has not got the newer firmware is because it has not been updated. SE are performing maintenance on it as it still corrupts firmware even though they say it never did (but they took the site offline for some time because of this reason) and now they are changing it again. Hopefully they can rectify the situation this time, as the previous attempt didn't help much!

Well to all of you that own a Orange K700i. i have just today taken my phone in to the CPW and had the latest software installed on my phone.
As you can see the firmware is R2AC003.
This is not the latest the SE has released but is the latest Orange have approved to work on there phones.

What i can see so far.
The R2AC003 seems to be the same as R2AA003 but Oranges own version.

R2AC003 has none of the functions of the new R2AE033 version for other K700i phones.

The 2 second delay has gone on answering calls however and the menu system is much faster. Ver 3.9 is still the camera version and the shortcuts from the main screen hasnt gone.
The phone now sees a m4a file as music and stores it in the sounds folder, but will not play the music at all no matter what or how i go into it. You cant even assign it to become a ring tone.

I did question the software and spoke to the eng, he did say that Orange are about 1 month behind the others on the software.

I will however keep you updated as much as i can and if you have any futher questions let me know.

Daz

Added R2AC003 and R2AG001 to the first post. Thanks to darrengf & gbrooks3 for this information.

@mwarner

I don't know if this is old news... anyway:

With R2L001 (UPDATE: Vodafone R2V001 to be correct): When you choose to create a new message, the sort order is

MMS
SMS

With R2AE033 the sort order is:

SMS
MMS

Not much people might think... but for me who write a lot of messages (SMS) it's good news!

[UPDATE] Forget about this post - it had to do with the Vodafone branding. Thanks vee. Again you deliver facts!

@Cyber:

On my R2L001, the sort order is the reverse of what you suggest...

Posted by CyberVisitor
@HjJ

That's weird! I'm having one K700i with R2L001 right now that has the "MMS/SMS" sort order, and one K700i with R2AE033 with the reverse! Hmm!

Posted by Grimslade
I have O2-branded k700i w/R2L firmware. My "new message" option lists SMS first, then MMS. Which is good, because my operator doesn't support MMS. Maybe it's operator specific, rather than firmware-version specific?

Posted by JKJK
I'm a "noob" and I really want to flash my k500 (i've flashed several nokia phones, but that's completely different....)

I don't know what things I need (like software, hardware ect...), since (http://www.sonyericsson.com/updateservice/K700/frameset.htm) didn't support k500i.

Does the dss-20 or dss-25 support k500i?

I need something "user friendly", if it exists.

Oh.. and .. another question: Will my settings/contacts/whatever be deleted if I flash the phone?

hehe, MMS first and SMS second is just a Vodafone way to make you spend more money on MMS ... exclusive in all Vodafone Live! handsets

Posted by CyberVisitor
@vee

Yes! I was sitting with a Vodafone R2L001 (or R2V001 to be correct) and a native K700i flashed at Davinci with R2AE033 and noted the difference... I didn't thought that it had to do with the Vodafone branding... stupid me!

Posted by Grimslade
Regarding .m4a support being new to R2AE, this is a myth. I've been playing AAC files with the .m4a extension on my phone since I got it with R2a firmware. Worked with R2L, and it works with R2AE. They have blue icons stedda green and say "mp4" stedda "mp3." And they've always played fine. Mine is (formerly) O2-branded phone, CDA 17, EU2.

Just found out "Auto save to sim" is back in r2ae033 ..

Posted by smjohns
Just had an email to confirm that the firmware now being use on the online update service is R2E033. Not had a chance to try it yet but hopefully this is the case.

Posted by Firefreak
Updating as we speak... will let you know as soon as it boots up after update....

Posted by Firefreak
Well... folks... it's official...

Just updated from R2L til R2AE033 using SEUS...

Posted by HjJ
Noticed a bug-fix in R2AE033 over R2L001:

The "phone always asks for phone lock code when turned on, even though SIM wasn't changed and lock was set to "Automatic"." bug has been fixed.

Noticed a crash in R2AE033 when using FMA 2.1.0.53 Beta 1 (reloaded):

I was refreshing the "Files" folder in FMA, when suddenly the phone display turned white. It flashed a couple of times, went dark for more than 5 seconds, and then the desktop appeared. The phone had lost connection to the network and on Bluetooth to my PC.
This never happened on R2L001 with earlier versions of FMA.

Just updated to RAE through SEUS - went perfectly OK. But I still can't turn off that **** shutter sound when I take a photo ? Is there a trick I need to know ? have I forgotten to do something evident ?

Posted by smjohns
On my phone all you need to do is mute the phone. From the main screen press and hold C until the crossed through musical note icon appears in the top left corner of the screen. Launch the camera app and it should take pictures silently....or at least mine does with R2AE033.....mind you it also did it with R2L001 so it could be to do with the version of the OS you have. Mine is regional version EU_2.

OK, some changes and a couple of weirdnesses in R2AE033--now when the screen shuts off in powersave mode, it takes two presses of the volume button to bring up the clock with backlight--first press brings up clock but no backlight, second turns on the backlight. I assume this is a power-saving "feature."

Now, weirdnesses. This morning, my phone wouldn't play MP3s, including the one I had as a ringtone. I deleted the MP3 and resent it to the phone, but it still wouldn't play. So I rebooted the phone.

Now the MP3 will play, but an AMR I recorded via the phone of my kids yelling "Dad, pick up the phone!" _won't_ play. Even weirder, last night the phone played that AMR as a ringtone fine--it even played it through my headset when the phone rang. Curious...

I just now completed the updating my k700 through SEUS and got the R2AE033, but be warned...

It also updated the phone with the WRONG phone language pack. I got the pack for baltic languages installed instead of nordic which I had before, (Swedish phone).

I still have not figured out how to solve this. The support said that I should send it to manual service, but I'm unwilling to do that because I have flshed the phone from branded Vodafone to unbranded. If anyone have an idée, I'm listening...

Posted by gbrooks3
well if you have already unbranded you phone, why not just flash a new language pack onto the phone with one of the servers. www.setool.net recommended.

Posted by moriax
Well, because I had my phone flashed by others. I have not the equipment to flash by my self.

I have just tried updating and have received this:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Your device is not permitted to use this service

Your operator does not approve the use of this service with this device.
We look forward to assisting you again soon.
Thank you for using the Sony Ericsson Update Service

------------------------------------------------------------------

I have tried a different sim (voda & orange) but the same result. The phone is not locked!

Any ideas please.

I've got the same problem: The Greek menus option is lost from my phone after upgrading to R2AE033 though SEUS today. All I have now is English. And of course I cannot get Greek back through SEUS, cause now when the SEUS application checks my phone it can't find it had Greek before

SEUS seems to be more of a problem than a solution afterall

That's weird. I just checked, and I'm R2AE033, EU2 as well... and turning it on silent doesn't work. Read somewhere it was due to privacy issues, preventing people from taking photos of other people without them knowing...
The only workaround I've found was to call my voicemail and launch the camera while connected.

C key does not work, it is the hash key.

You are probably right about the regional version thing. I have R2L with the EU_4 customisation. In R2A041, I could mute the camera by selecting the "Meeting" profile, but this is not longer possible in R2L001. I mailed the Swedish SE support, and they said that the possibility to silence the camera was actually a bug which was fixed in R2L for the Swedish version of the phone. So according to them, it shouldn't be possible to silence the camera at least in the EU_4 version of the firmware.

By the way, quoting doesn't seem to work when using Safari 1.2.4 on MacOS 10.3.7 - I had to add the quote tags myself...

I am fairly sure that sliencing the camera is only possible if you update your firmware through DaVinci or another unofficial update service.

I think its time we stop and reassess the current SEUS situation with UK branded phones. While the earlier posts and specifically the first post in this thread states that orange uk and tmobile uk will work, while O2 and voda wont, it seems that right now, all 4 of the uk networks have stopped users from updating via SEUS.

I have just got hold of a dss-25 and tried to update my
R2A041 Tmobile UK branded k700, and get the "your device is not permitted to use this service" message. Orange users get the same.

So Mrwarner, please make this very clear at the start of this thread so that other people dont make the mistake of believing the info here and waste money on a dss-25 like I did (no wonder it was so cheap on ebay, the thing is now useless in the UK!)

[ This Message was edited by: sweetmate on 2005-01-16 01:20 ]

Posted by darrengf
Not just the 4 uk networks, but most of the networks have stopped the updates happening.
This is because of all the problems in updating the phone is causing.

You have only got to look on here for the latest faults and problems the update is causing.

I like a service to work, not to render my phone usless when i update.

Posted by sweetmate
It not due to update issues though it is. Otherwise why do SE still provide the update for unbranded phones? And why have O2 and Voda ALWAYS blocked the update?
