I now have the R2L installed. Apart from the observations written in the OP I salso found that:
- selection bar (indicating which option in a menu you are about to choose) is now much bigger, too big in fact, ugly,
- there's a shortcut to "Sony Fun" where the shortcut to WAP used to be (upper left), just like with the z500. I can live with that but in a lot ofother menus (pictures, sounds, themes) there's also one or two shortcuts sending you online to SE or Sony Fun. What sh*t is that! And you can't get rid of them.
If it weren't for the bold dates in the calendar and the still improved battery life...
Shame! Shame! If we want menus that drive us online even by error we'll buy a branded SE.

Found my first bug in R2AA003. While talking to someone, the phone just restarted itself without any reason (just talking, not using any other aplication or speaker). Anyone notice the same problem with this software ???

Hi. Just found a really obscure bug in R2L. Would appreciate any comments in case it's me. I have Line 1 and Line 2 enabled on the Orange UK network. When using the normal profile, I change to Line 2. I then select any other profile which is set to use Line 1. The phone changes profile and selects Line 1. When I change back to the Normal profile, the phone selects Line 2 (as this was selected previoulsy), but then diverts all Line 2 calls to the last number they were diverted to. If no number is available it diverts calls to voicemail. I then have to switch off the divert manually! Same thing happens if I have a profile set to use Line 2. When selecting that profile all Line 2 calls get diverted. I have tried changing the Divert Calls setting within each profile, but it always says Divert On, even if the network states that it is deactivated. Very weird and annoying.

Another bug(?) - withheld/private number calls that are answered/received are not included in the answered calls list. I am quite puzzled as to why this is when missed calls with withheld numbers are included in the missed calls list...

Tomcat,
I got R2L and sometimes i get the same sh*tie problem.. infact when i'm restarting the phone it automaticly redials the number of the last conversation..

Hi Guys
I have just been trawling the site and I am probably gonna ask a stupid question, but am I correct in understanding that the R2L001 is the latest and greatest out there for the k700i unbranded phone?
Cheers

yes, r2l is the latest...still waiting for new fw for our k700i what's taking them so long?
Posted by RedDwarf2002
Hi, has anyone thought about e-mailing the list of bugs to Sony Ericsson? I am sure if the list was sent then there would be more chances of them being addressed. I don't think SE come on this forum or any other forums to look for solutions!
Also, it would be useful to include some of the other things that users would like incorporated in the FW like :- switching off backlight/screen on calls after about 10 seconds, like Nokia and every other manufacturer!

Good idea, @RedDwarf2002,
My k-700 R2Y005 Firmware -(first appeared around 25/10/04- by @mwarner's Firmware Overview) still has few bugs, the greatest: video and picture dims after 15 secs, but animated gif stays always bright.
Significant improvement from first ("frosty") release R2A041.
My first (s)E
was battery eater too, but without bugs.

I need K700_EU2.K7L language file and K700_FIRMWARE_ZONE_1_.K7S firmware files. Can anyone help me where to find those files? Thanks in advance.

I want to know if I upgrade my K700i's firmware to R2AA003 this version includes all the solved bugs in the previously released versions or I have to upload all the revisions?
Posted by vee
welcome...
1. you just need to upgrade to the latest availiable version
2. as for files you are asking for if you know how to use them then you'll know where to download them... simple as that

Hi Guys!
Last night I was out down the pub and discovered that one of my friends has a brand new K700 (actually, it was a replacement for his previous K700 - but brand new none the less). I noticed that the firmware revision was R2AA003, so I thought I would check it out whilst I had the opportunity.
One thing I noticed straight away was that the WAP browser was much improved over my ancient R2A firmware (i'll update it one of these days!).
If I go to Google on my K700, I get the full Google web page with google banner and the two buttons, 'Search' and 'I'm feeling lucky'. I can sucessfully click on 'I'm feeling lucky' and get to a random web site, but I can't do a search as the results page is too complex for the browser to interpret. This is pretty annoying, and occurs on the results page of ALL the search engines I have tried.
However, using the Vodaphone R2AA phone of my friend, I get the Google WAP page - as I would expect if I visited from a phone. The Search function works correctly, and I get a full list of results.
My question to you all is:
Which firmware revision fixed this issue (of correctly identifying the browser as a WAP browser rather than a HTML web browser).
If you have a firmware revision of R2C to R2L, I would be grateful if you could go to Google, see whether you get the Web page or the WAP page and report it back here.
Thanks,
Mike

hi there,
i have R2AA003 on my phone and still have the same issue with Google and other search engines... still going at the HTML page... strange
Posted by marslanoglu
I found the files but they don't suit to the firmware on my K700i That's why I am searching for the firmwares that I wrote.
Posted by mwarner
@vee
That is weird! This phone did have vodaphone customised firmware (as you would expect on a Vodaphone K700!), but I would be suprised if they could change the behaviour of the browser like this!

@mwarner
Was it a Vodafone branded K700i with R2AA003? Strange since the latest (known) official firmware for Vodafone F500/K700i is R2V001.
Please confirm!
Posted by mwarner
Yes, it was a Vodaphone branded K700 with R2AA003. I was rather suprised myself, particularly as it is a firmware revision that has since been withdrawn. The phone was brand new - it even had the protective screen sticker on when I got my hands on it

@ marslanoglu
those files are for Total Multi Shi...ups...Server. So if you have program and valid username and password you also have acces to all availiable files in Download Area. If they are not there, they doesn't exist
@ mwarner&Cyber
phone could be theoretically updated to R2AA in SE Service Center or by some of Remote Servers without decustomizing it... but still very strange thing that on some works and on some it doesn't... maybe it has something to do with Internet Settings because you can choose Http or WAP there. I'll cehck it out a bit later
TC,
vee

@vee
Vodafone uses the Http setting, not the wap setting, and as you say, that could be the reason.
By the way, you cannot install "native" R2AA003 on a Vodafone branded K700i without "replacing" the branded firmware. If the firmware is of Vodafone kind and it says R2AA003, then Vodafone has released a brand new firmware for the K700i - period!
Also note that the features of Vodafones firmware compared to Sony Ericsson original firmware sometime differs even when the revision is the same. Vodafone claims for example that R2V001 is based on (and is identical to) the R2L001 original software (besides the user interface), but it still has features that the R2L001 lacks. One of them is the ability to auto-save your phonebook on the sim-card.

While speaking about the "Http" setting and the "wap" setting, you all should know that choosing the "Http" setting gives you access to more compatibility on some pages. Do note however, that having the "Http" setting enabled makes the pages load a lot slower than with the "wap" setting (and that even goes for identical pages).

@CyberVisitor
thanks for the great info... i find it very interesting that what you said about Vodafone/SE firmware differences... I was pretty sure that if you just run the firmware upgrade with official SE firmware (just main firmware - not FS (languges, GDFS...)) that you will get still get Voda customized firmware... thanks for the info

anyone knows when a new firmware will be released?

I have tried using the HTTP setting on my non-branded O2 contract K700i phone but I get a connection error.
I have also tried changing the home page from http://wap.o2.co.uk to http://www.google.co.uk but still no luck. Anyone know what the settings are for the HTTP protocol?

There are reports in another thread that r2aa is available again at service points (but not through SEUS). Has anyone been to a service point to get it? Can anyone confirm what it fixes/improves over R2L? I mean specifically the new 'official' version, not the dodgy total multi version.

I have R2AA003 and R2Y005 and both of them has the same bug in my phone.
When somebody call me or send me a sms/mms my phone does not recognize the contact - just put the phonenumber,,, the worse IS THAT I have THE CONTACT SAVED in my phone book..... Why??? .
This happens also in R2l in my phone, but is not a really problem like those, just happen whe the inbox or call list has more than 6 calls or sms, then does not recognize the contact... I never had these problems in my old firmware r2a041 :'(
Is the upgrading firmware bad to the memory phone? Someone has the same problem?
best regards from Mexico

I found this in total multiserver about the new firmware K700_R2AE033_RED_CID_29.... and my problem is that i have the 3.9 camera driver. How can I upgrade it?
Hello Dear Total MultiServer Customers,
Please double check the version of your K700 / K700i Camera Driver.
This K700/K700i R2AE033 Firmware version is working with all K700/K700i phones.
BUT if you have NOT installed 3.10 or Higher Camera Driver in your handset you will LOSE the Camera Function in your phone!
Mostly of the K700/K700i phones which are the in street have installed 3.10 or Higher version of Camera Driver.
But please, DOUBLE check which version of Camera Drivre has your K700/K700i Handset installed BEFORE perform any flashing upgrade operation.
If you flash this K700/K700i R2AE033 Firmware version in any Phone with 3.09 or Lower Camera Driver you will get the following message:
'Wrong Camera driver version (3.9). Please update camera version to 3.10 or later'
So please, be carefull before Flash this K700/K700i R2AE033 firmware version to any phone to avoid any Camera Function losing.
Best Regards,
TOTAL MultiServer Team

I have the R2L001 version in my K700i.
About the wap/http problem with surfing..
In the "Kommunication/Internet settings/internet profiles/"..
If you edit your GPRS profile you have the option of choosing
internet mode. ie. Wap or HTTP.
Hope this helps those having a problem.

I upgraded with Total Multiserver when I had camera software version 3.9 and, as they warned, I was not able to use the camera and received the warning that they stated. And as far as i know there is no way to upgrade the camera software, bummer. At least I should be able to flash back to R2AA and get the camera back - but I want the improvements of this new firmware.

So the bottomline is, If you have 3.9 cam sw (w/c I have) you cant upgrade to r2ae sw! This is just grea! Way to go
way to go!
Posted by CyberVisitor
@kenski
I'm sure that when the update is available at service centres and they provide the update for you, then the camera software is updated as well.
The software available on non authorized update servers is not official software and therefore they don't have the camera software in it. The version they have is probably a cut down version that Sony Ericsson used during their testing on phones that didn't need the camera software to be updated. The version they got hold of simply lacks the software for the camera.
I have no idea why people keep playing around with software from these servers... even less, how can some one be so desperate for an update that he installs a software that was known to disable the camera? This "hunt" for new software has gone to far!
Posted by feco
You can update to R2AE003 without loosing the camera function using DaVinci server! I feels thats its better than Totla Multiserver!!
Posted by SeDiva
www.Davinciteam.com released the firmware. It updates 100% correct your phone, and will update the camera driver also to version 3.10. In same time with any upgrade you will be able to have your phone "no shuttersound"
About the flashfiles, these files are 100% generic files, but just not yet available for your regular service center. (this time only for R&d centers)
Posted by govigov
why is that my service centre still has r2l?
Posted by corylei
hehe... The great thing about my service centres is that they have no idea what they're upgrading your phone to, and aren't even kept in contact by se about when new updates are going to be released.
Smart se, real smart. The secret of the firmware version is still safe.

I've updated the first post with R2AE information, as supplied by Vee. Thanks a lot for that info Vee.
