I think I've come across another bug (although not major) with the R2L firmware. For some very odd reason the red LED light which is supposed to start flashing when the battery is almost empty is actually coming on at half-empty battery (and once even on full battery!). This is the second time it's happened to me, and the problem fixes itself if I turn the power off and then on again. Although this is nothing major, I'm just a bit curious how this problem has appeared in the R2L when I never experienced it on the R2A (which I had for 2 months)....hmmm....me thinks SE needs to get their act together...
Just for records, I am almost 100% sure that R2L does not improve the actual battery life over R2A, rather the indicator is more accurate as opposed to draining very slowly once indicator reached halfway. The only improvements will be noticed by people who use Infra-red or Bluetooth and who are too lazy or forgetful to switch off these devices once finished...

OK, so I bought a DSS-25 which was delivered today... Wasn't expecting it to a bulk-pack version with no drivers/software or information, but it didn't take too long to figure it out and get it up and running.
I used the File Manager to check I had stable connectivity (on my Laptop) after having some headaches earlier on my Desktop...
Finally hit the SE Online Update Service website and got the page in the attached picture! DOH!
It has given me pause for thought though, as I've read some more historic posts about the Firmwares... Could anyone help me out with some queries?...
i) I currently have R2C - I have no major complaints with the phone apart from maybe the lack of call times for the missed calls, and perhaps one or two other smaller things - I've read that R2L Firmware has a few little bugs, would you guys say it is more or less buggy on-the-whole than the R2C release? Has anyone made the hop? If so, are you glad, or would you prefer to go back if you could?
ii) I gather the phone won't lose any of its Orange branding... Has anyone upgraded an Orange UK K700i from R2C to R2L? Are you happy? Is the phone branding different in any way at all?
Thanks and regards
Rob.

Ok.. I have read all the posts in this thread and others related to R2AA.
I had flashed my phone today to R2AA from R2L today morning and it did not take me long to realise that R2AA has some bugs which could be more serious than the previous firmware releases.
1. some mp3 ringtones become protected and cannot be deleted. In addition, the file size becomes 0 kb. 2 of my ringtones were affected like this.
2. In the "More" link where there is an option for turning infrared on for 10 minutes, infrared is on for unlimited duration. Mine went on for more than 30 minutes till i switched IR off.
3. File Manager in Sony Ericsson PC suite is not compatible with Release R2AA. it just refuses to detect the phone. I had to rely on free file managers like fma.
SO stick on to R2L.
I enquired whether i can rollback to the previous firmware version and they have replied in the negative.
Will let u know if anything else comes up. Anyway i am going back tomorrow to SE.. nice ppl at the SE service centre here..

(factionone) Answer to question asked about Mp3 ring tones on orange
Vodafone was the only netowrk to block mp3's playing as a ringtone.
Also your warranty is not void even when you use the upgrade of the internet (SE only). The warranty is only void if you change or modify the software in any way.
Going from R2c to R2l is a big improvement and i would recomend it to any Orange users and to any other K700i users on any network. I have updated quite a few freinds and my self on Orange. The software is very good, not perfect but alot better. Hugh battery and bluetooth improvements
Orang Branding is no different what so ever. You still have the Orange icons and the orange theme and folders
Hope this helps

@scorpio, welcome here. You cannot roll back to a previous fw. I heard they pulled back r2aa. How did you get it? My service point is still on r2l.

@RedDwarf2002
The battery life does increase if you upgrade from R2A to R2L. The power consumption is lower on R2L because of certain tweaking in the firmware. Backlight behavior being one of them.
As for the flashing LED, mine started flashing when the battery level is low. However, the LED does not seem to stop flashing even after recharging it.

ok the R2AA firmware release was at the SE service centre in Doha, Qatar almost a week back. and i went to upgrade it without checking the net. and now let me add some more bugs..
4. the message tone keeps beeping at times (intervals of 6 hours) without any reason.
5. the call response is still >1 second irrespective of presence of picture or not.

ok.. i am back from the se service centre and they flashed my k700 back to R2L. Yet to see if the defects from R2AA remain as i don't have an infrared near me..
Anyway it IS POSSIBLE to revert back to your old firmware version.
and i did check visually and the firmware version "is" R2L.

Anyone know why the update service is down at the moment? New release?
Posted by factionone
...Thanks for the info guys...
I guess as soon as the Update Site is back Online I'll see if I can step-up to R2L...
As far as the "Temporarily Out of Order" page goes... I've been checking back quite regularly and just recently I got a different error page (here) - and now I'm not even getting that, my connection just sits there waiting for an eternity like it wants to time-out... Maybe the box is being rebooted? I hope so!
Regards,
Rob.

Contrary to what the first post in this thread says, the online update does NOT work with Vodafone NL. I have emailed SE and asked wheter this is going to change anytime soon, but I won't get my hopes up just yet.
Posted by mwarner
Ok, thanks for that. I can't remember who said it *did* work for Vodaphone NL, but i'll change it to say it doesn't until further notice!
Posted by Marc0
No problem. I'll be sure to report back with any info SE might give me.

T-mobile NL is also banned to flash

seems at the moment that a lot of phones are not able to use SE US... branded or unbranded... for whatever reason...
For now as I am aware only phones that has CDA number ending at /16, /17 and /46 are allowed to use SE US (will add others to the list when someone confirms - CDA is customization number found in Software info)...
Hope it will be solved soon

"only phones that has CDA number ending at /16, /17 and /46 are allowed to use SE US"
My phone is from O2 UK, with a CDA number ending /17. However, I cannot use the update service!
[Edit]
Additionally, modified the R2V001 section of the initial post to include Autosave to SIM.

Ups... I am a bit confused now... So your CDA is 102286/17 and you can not use SE US... And masseur can... Strange. I would really like if someone can explain all the different CDAs
Posted by mwarner
@vee
My customisation number is:
CDA102298/17
Reorganised the first post to list the firmwares in release date order. Made some minor changes to various firmware entries too.
Posted by FISKER_Q
Mine is CDA102298/34 and works too.
Posted by Marc0
Well, I've contacted Vodafone and they said "It is not possible at the moment to use the online update service (duh!), but we (Vodafone) intend to change this in the future. However, at this time we have no additional information".
Well then... I guess I will wait... and wait... and wait...

My K700 was O2 branded, had a CDA which ended /17 and was barred from using SE US.
It is now debranded using TS and "old" decustomise and R2L files, CDA now ends /16 and can use SE US.
My brother and his m8 both have unbranded K700s from Carphone Warehouse(one using O2 SIM and one using Vodafone SIM), both have CDA which ends /17 and both have always been able to use SE US.
What gives?
Cheers,
Col.

I have no idea to the cda thing , i debranded my k700 from t-mobile and i cant use the update service , my CDA ends in 0 :|. Anyway bug to add to the list for RAA003 , when playing IMY monophonic ringtones which contain extra commands e.g turn the screen on or off , make the phone vibrate etc , if the screen is off when the ringtone ends it will stay like that until you restart the phone or until you play the ringtone again and stop it whilst the screen is on :|.
Is it me or this the most buggy se phone ever made ?

I'm trying to update my k700i with the latest Orange firmware (i'm on R2L at the moment) to add multi-character phonebook searching. I've installed a DSS-25 on a PC at work and home, and everytime the Update service goes to start the process it says "There is currently no service for devices belonging to your operator"

welcome... yes it is normal, because you have Orange branded phone and you are not able to use Update Service because of some problems.
And also R2L is latest official firmware as R2AA was pulled off server...

Hmmm from reading a few other posts ive come to the conlclusion that using the eu1 customisation file on multiserver may let you use the SE update service , can anyone confirm this ?
Posted by funkee_phantom
Using multiserver i've come to the conclusion that it's rubbish.
don't touch the R2AA files (the only ones on their server) with a very long barge pole!
Posted by lost_ickle_hippy
Yeh it pisses me off to but its the only one with instant credits :/ , it does however have free firmware upgrades / downgrades which is a plus , however it dosn't allow you to download firmware without credits :|. If anyone downloaded any of the r2l files and wants to share them with people.
UPLOAD
ftp://uploadf:uploadf@wildmeep.myftp.org
DOWNLOAD
ftp://firmware:firmware@wildmeep.myftp.org
The server was originaly setup for cellular support when they were haveing bandwidth issues but i kept i open after that and it still recieves lots of traffic. It's got some updated firmware for the t630/t610 as well , i think its r6d.
Note: Only download what you need , loads of people have been downloading all the flash files , like all the languages . I have very limited bandwidth and if i catch anyone doing this it'll be kick ban time.

Hi guys. One question. Changed my phone (paid extra of course) and the first one was
r2a041
cda 102298/18 r24a
cxc 125822 r1a
eu_2,
while the second one is
r2aa003
cda 102286/11 r2a
cxc 125822 r2a003
emea_4.
Spoken to Vee, and he suggests that I keep this one, so do U agree ? And why is it that everyone mentions emea_2, and I have emea_4 ????

hi,
second one is R2AA003 if I got it right and the first one is R2A041?
EMEA_2 has this languages: EN / HR / CS / SR / SL / SK
EMEA_4 has this languages: EN / RO / HU / BG / RU
that's the only difference

which is the emea that has serbian (if any), and how can I get one ???

EMEA_2 has this languages: EN / HR / CS / SR / SL / SK
you have to flash to your phone EMEA_2 language and customization pack. you can do it with one of the unofficial solutions mentioned on this forums or try to do it legally, but I doubt you'll have success.

@ vee
Never mind, I do know how to use english
Here is my review of my R2AA003 after using it for one day :
- the phone meni is much faster
- viewing of the photos also
- when answering the call that is on waiting, the person who calls U can actually hear U (problem from R2A041)
- mp3 sounds better when ringing (or is it just my imagination ?)
- BATTERY LASTS AT LEAST 50% LONGER (had a 75min conversations, 10 sms sent and received, meni, calendar and phonebook browsing, and still 15% of battery full, on stand by from 7am up till now)
- when typing the name while searching in the phonebook, U can actually type not 4, but as many letters as U wish (only the first four can be seen though), so U can type the name that U R looking for entirelly, the only problem is the mentioned non-abillity to delete the mistyped letters
- no freezing, and problems when calling others (E.G. in R2A041, sometimes the phone freezes itself when calling is displayed, and U have to remove the battery and put it back, or U get the call, but hear nothing, and can't end it untill U restart the phone also by removing the battery)
- can mute the camera when in silent mode
- CAN NOT FIND THE MINUTE MINDER OPTION !!!!! (Where is it ????)
- no problem with sms that was posted before
- no sound delay when answering (at least none that I have noticed)
- and only one bug (when scrolling over the mp3, midi, and other files in the sound dir, while holding the joistick (up or down), the phone "freezes" at the same points for 1 or 2 sec, and then gets to normal, remembering the numer of presses made by joistick and moving up or down as much (not a big bug, in my opinion)
- QUESTION - What is the Jbenchmark (or something like that), and how can I check it ?
Of course, my k700i R2AA003 is a 04w33, and battery is BKB 193 191/12 R1A 700mAh 04W37 (LiPolymer)
And to conclude, haven't used the R2L, but am very sattisfied with this firmware (at least so far), MUCH BETTER THAN R2A.

@lost_ickle_hippy
U can not use multiserver and downloaded files if U have no credits, because it will all be OK untill U try to upgrade fw, language pack and cust. file. Therefore, do not try this, 'cause it will kill your phone, staying flashed and totally empty. Even if U have these files, as I see U do (so do I), U can not use them completely without one credit.
Posted by lost_ickle_hippy
Mm i see what you meen , even if you can flash the firmware for free you cant flash the language file for free . And you need them both to be the same version .
Posted by chrisdaniels2222
is it possible to update the firmware only without the language using multiserver?

some minor bugs,is r2l the latest fw for k700 or r2aa

r2l is the latest after se withdrew r2aa from their servers. I've read somewhere in esato that se would be coming out with a new fw for our k700i. just dont know when
Posted by gushter
I've got k700 in October and imediately after some bugs changed firmware from R2A041 to R2Y005. Now all is working good, bat. life is better at least 40%.
Now it appears small problem, when is video on, or fhoto or in camera mode, screen becomes (little) dim after 15 sec. (like first step power saving dim in menu after 15 sec). But when is some gif animation on, it stays bright all time).
Anybody noticed same problem, or have explanation? Thanks.
Posted by vee
it will hopefully be changed in next software version... i think it was introduced in R2L and persists til R2AA...
HTH,
Velimir
Posted by teslaguy
The light dims so the screen consumes less battery. I hate it for one.
This could be solved by adding another two options in the display > light: Always on - Dim, and Automatic - Dim.
Posted by gushter
k-700 R2Y005 Firmware
Tried everything - always light on, automatic... Video dims after 15 secs. It must be software bug because gif image always stays bright on screen - no dim.
Oh, and another bug: When keysound on, during typing, occasionally, ther's heard cracklin' sound from speakerphone (In Service Centre they told me its normal for most SE phones (!) - like: "membrana gets sometimes impuls from chip" (!!) - I think its bugy software again).

Hi all, I purchased recently a K700i which is Orange' branded here in Switzerland, and I was wondering if it's possible to update it, given I heard rumors that it could not be possible.
HELP, battery is bad, and I hate these Orange' settings.
How can I get rid of these?
Posted by vee
Welcome... You can try to use official SE update service from K700i support page which will update your software to latest version. Not sure it will work because of some problems. If you want to debrand your phone from Orange stuff you will need to ask official SE service center, but probably they won't do it. Then you have to use unofficial solution for which you need T28 service cable, online logger and some credits. Please search this forum for more info on this or PM me and I can try to help. HTH, Vee
