Yes cheers for that anyone know anything more?
Posted by Jools
All I know (from what I've read on Esato) is that R2AA is supposedly a developer release. It may or may not have the extended search in the phonebook that has been previously mentioned as part of R2Y.
Give it a few hours and I'm sure as more people log-on and read your posts if they know more they'll say!

Updated R2N001
Added R2AA003
Noted the ability to use the Online Update for Vodaphone Netherlands, but not Vodaphone UK.

What is the jbenchmark results fot the k500i
Posted by mwarner
Interesting question! I *think* the hardware is the same, so they should be identical? Maybe someone with a K700 can give it a try and post the results here?

Has anyone else noticed a problem on the K700i when sending DTMF tones? For people who are not familiar with DTMF an example is: 0800800800p123456. The phone freezes for about 30 seconds before the tones are sent. It should only pause for about 3 seconds when a "pause" (p) is entered. This has happened to me on both the R2A and the R2L versions (although it did work ok once without freezing).
Also, has anyoe else noticed that there is a "beep" sound every 20 seconds when recording a call? I wish this was removed as both parties can hear it and it is annoying!

where can i upgrade my K700i I'm in Maryland USA?
Posted by ebsor
im new here, would just like to ask the latest firmware available for k700i here in the philippines, thank you.
Posted by mwarner
Updated the first post to give additional information about R2AA003.
@tess
Either use the online update service or take your phone to a SE Service Centre
@ebsor
I should think R2L is your latest

@RedDwarf2002
Yes, I've noticed the delay in dialling numbers after the 'p' . It is pretty annoying, in fact, often its quicker to dial the second set of numbers yourself.
The reason that it beeps while recording is so that the caller knows they're being recorded as it is illegal to record conversations without the callers permission in many countries

Is there any news if we can upgrade O2 Branded K700 fone to R2L????
Thank you

Hi!
Does anybody knows something about disabling the noise that sounds while taking a photo?
With Vodafone version of the firmware it was possible to mute it changing volume level to 0.
I flashed and updated the firmware to R2AA003 yesterday, and I've noticed that this doesn't work now. I don't find the way to take a photo whithout that noise.
Could anybody tell me what to do?
How does it works at R2L version? Is there a way to disable the noise at R2L and R2AA?
Thanks!!

I think one of the ways SE can increase the battery life is to switch the display-light off on a long call. I'm sometimes on a call for over 2 hours and the backlight never goes off - it's just dimmed. Would it not be more sensible to switch the backlight off after about 1 min and if you want to turn the backlight on again just move the joystick or something?
All I can say is that SE have employed some of our four legged ancestors!

Just upgraded my k700i to R2L. (Waiting and watching for improvements)
@guimosal - Set silent mode on by pressing the # or 'c' key for 3 seconds. It works for me.

Totally agree, backlight on while talking give user very little benefit but drain the batt a lot.
SE should give us new setting item on Display tab called "In-call Backlight" or something similar with options "Always On, and 1 to 15 minutes delay".

@marlonxp
If you have a K500 and wish to benchmark yourself, you can download a copy of JBenchmark 1 and 2 from the website below:
http://www.jbenchmark.com/
or ...
(WAP) wap.jbenchmark.com.

@marlonxp
Just go to the JBenchmark web site and you can look at the benchmark results for all phones there - including the K500. It's not really too different from the K700, as expected.
@vee
Thanks for that. Any chance of JBenchmark 1 scores?
Edit:
Added the JBenchmark 2 scores to the first post

hi. what are the small bug fixes that you noticed in R2AA? can you list some of the small bug fixes that you have discovered while using R2AA? thanks. btw is it worth upgrading from R2L or should i wait for an R3 or something?
Posted by vee
I replayed already in the other thread... but no I didn't find anything worth upgrade from R2L to R2AA... Search Phonebook is nice but nothing worth update...
Velimir
Posted by j4sp33d
thanks vee. i think i'll just wait for a major update like what R2L did to R2A and R2E.
Posted by vegetaleb
yes I am waiting for R3x ,r2l is working fine for me

@vee
Thanks. I've added them to the first post.

I just got my dss-25 and went from r2a to r2l. I don't know if this has already been discussed (I made a quick search) but the picture quality of photos taken with my k700i has improved a great deal. They used to be almost unusable (I was very disappointed with the camera function) and now they are very sharp. Has anyone else experienced this?
Posted by maxf
Oh yeah, I forgot:

1) Can anybody explain what the software for LCD and ITP is?
2) For R2C001 it is stated "Ability to mute the shutter sound of the camera". Is this correct, this doesn't seem to be true for R2L?
Posted by vee
it seems that picture quality got better from R2A to R2L and someone reporting even from R2L to R2AA... I myself didn't notice that much difference, maybe a bit faster...
But it would be normal that the picture (software diagrams) are getting better from software to software
Velimir
PS. 100
Posted by maxf
The browser is also improved R2A->R2L. But I'm stilling missing a horisontal scrollbar (now you only seem to be able to scroll horizontally on some places on the web page your viewing)

Can the k500 be updated through the SE online service?
And is it the exact same firmware in k700 and k500?
Posted by demon-knight
Just upped a guide for using total server update for o2 customers here
Posted by snowgoose
It seems like there is some kind of bug at the recurring appointments alert mechanism. I synch my K700 (R2L) with Outlook (2K) calendar to a certain period lets say 20 days back and 60 days ahead. When the time comes for an alert of a recurring appointment the phone is producing an alert for ALL the instances of that appointment in the calendar which results in multiple alerts (which I need to dismiss by viewing) and there will be NO alerts at ALL for the future instances of this appointment!!
Searched through the FAQ/Knowledge Base and I couldn’t find any answers for this issue.
Any ideas ?!
Posted by SpacemanSpiff
If the K500 and K700 use the same software, why cant the K500 be updated online?
or can it? pls let me know
Posted by vee
I took another K700 today and ask official SE Service Center to flash it from R2A to THE LATEST VERSION (I said to them to look for R2AA). They checked EMMA and said that it has been removed from server for unknown reason and that the latest official version for K700 is R2L (EMEA2).
Don't kill the messanger.
Take care
Velimir

Im new to all this firmware update stuff, i need some help. I have just got a K700i on Orange. I see there is a firmware update. I asked at the shop they told me some porkies then i called Sony they also told me some news. The problem seems to be that im a Mac user. (0SX 10.3v) When i bought the phone they said i will have no trouble with mac. I see on some forums that they have got the iSync to work via Bluetooth. So some compatability. I have told that i can not update from the Sony Ericsson site as it`s PC only. Does this make any sence to anyone........? Please help. im currenlty using R2C001
I like the phone and im not too fussed about sync but i would like the firmware update. I cant see any way to get it without sending my phone back to Sony to be flashed. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers bazaray.

R2AA003 has been removed due to some problems with communication between mobile (K700/K500) and PC with this version... a new version is said to be released in week 43
Posted by mwarner
Week 43 is this week! How sure are you sure about that?
Also, do you have any further details as to the problems of R2AA - i.e. whether the comms problem is over IR, Bluetooth, USB or a combination of all of them!?

that's at least the information
has released to their servicepoints... but as always with new versions the release date might be different depending on country/servicepoint

@ mwarner
There is no problem with bluetooth on R2AA if that helps. Its still stable and fast

Hey all,
My apologies if I'm asking totally dumb questions here... I've not had my K700 long, and I've only just signed up here (although I've tried to read some relevant posts).
I recently got a K700i from Orange and like many others, I have one with the R2C Firmware, I've been checking this thread out and I've decided to grab a DSS-20/25 and give the update a go in the hope of getting R2L or similar as a few of the improvements listed are quite attractive to me.
My main question is regarding MP3s as ringtones, at present I can do this, but I noticed that a couple of firmware revisions don't...
--------------------------------------------
R2V001
- Vodaphone version of R2L (UK)
- MP3s can now be used as ringtones so long as they have digital rights management, e.g. repackaged using Sony Ericsson's DRM Packager Tool.
R2N001
- Vodaphone version of R2L (Netherlands)
- Still unable to use MP3s as ringtones, whether they have DRM or not.
--------------------------------------------
...Is that lack of MP3 ringtone support limited to Voda-branded handsets only, or others, and in earlier firmwares too? I don't want to lose the MP3 ringtone support.
My other question, is regarding warranty, does anyone know how likely Orange are to mess me about if I have problems with the phone down the line and they notice I upgraded the software somehow? I know that sounds a little paranoid, but I'm asking more out of curiosity - I was perfectly willing to add a good few bugs to a cr***y Moto V600 they somehow managed to give me once just to get SMS Delivery Reports!
Once again, apologies if I'm asking dumb or repeat questions,
Thanks and regards,
Rob.

@fact if you upgrade at am authorised service centre, it will not void your warranty, and is free

What is emma2? What is its importance?
Posted by YoMan
Emma2 is the server Sony Ericsson service points uses to download new firmware versions. It is _not_ open to the public. You need username and password as well as a hardware dongle to get access.
