Been playing around with the internet on my new (non-branded) k700i this week, and somthing keeps popping up...

"'Content controlled access' please contact vodaphone or use this website to remove bars...You must proove you are over 18 to access this information"

Now, im not looking a porn here.. I was infact on the e-messenger webpage!!

Ok i thought, lets get this taken care of. So i tried the webpage, eventually found the correct bit in the maze, and it wanted a credit card. Piss! I dont have a credit card. Fine, lets ring them up.

On the phone to a perfectly nice drone called Angela, who imediatly prompts me for credit card information to remove this block, i say... Whoa hold on a mo, i dont have a credit card! *cut long argument short* She asks her manager, and there is *NO* way to unlock these access control features without a credit card!! (And it has to be mine...)

I am absolutly stupified at this. To take out a contract you have to be over 18. I am 20, I'm a student, and i dont want a F**KING credit card. I'm in enough debt already...

Vodaphone is turning into the NANNY of all providers. This along with their 'good willed' (and not profit related, no no..) restriction of ring tones to DRM ones... is crossing the line.

I've paid for this service, and i CANT USE IT?

*rant over*

One pissed off Ewok^.

I believe this is not correct. I hit this last week (on a non porn site) and called up vodafone and did it with a card but they told me I could go to a store and show any proof of age to have it lifted. they also told me how to view the detals of this on the web site but you cannot link to vodafone pages since they are time related

just go to http://www.vodafone.co.uk and type "content control" into the search. The first result is the "content control" page you need and there it says "Alternatively you can contact your service provider's customer care team who will be able to lift the bar. You can find their number on your bill. Vodafone pay monthly and pay as you talk customers can visit a retail store and, provided you have a credit card or other proof of age, our staff will be able to lift the bar for you. "

It should be no different for you

Then singlepoint call centre staff are incompetent (as if we dindt know) She told me that i would need a credit card in the store as well.

Do you think its a phones4u or a vodaphone store i should go to?

Posted by masseur
no idea really, try both

I got the block removed, passport in a vodafone store, no problems. I do agree with you though, its ridiculous, all contract phone owners are, by definition, over the age of 18. It does stink a bit.

Posted by masseur
my kids have contract phones so it makes it rediculous if I can remove their prohibition just because the contract is in my name

what does all this really do at the end of the day?

Posted by Ewok^
Ah well thats good to know..

Woulndt be the first time i've been missinformed by singlepoint staff.

Opt in, not opt out...

When you get an internet connection, theres a good chance that there will be kids in the house, yet they dont install content filters by default (unless you count AOL as an ISP, i do not.) It's up to yourself to restrict your kids access to stuff you dont want them to have.

Yeah but by the same token i think maybe vodafone are doing an AOL and using it to drum up business, *your phone is safe for your kids. buy from us, we're great*

Sounds typical of how badly phone network call centre staff seemed to be trained! You can call up 3 times, speak to 3 different people and get 3 different answers!

Best thing to do is kick up a fuss every time and demand to be put through to line manager/team leader, or whatever term is 'in' that month.

I kept getting the banned msg over 48 hours so it was a mental note to get it sorted..

Happened to be in a voda store last week so i foned voda business to get it lifted.. they said it wasn't on the account anyway.

Seems to work now... off to test pornsites...
