Hi.
I've just sat and gone though loads of posts re: 6230 vs K700i, but just have a few questions that I hope folks can help me with before making a final decision...
1) Is there a max size MMC I would be able to use in the 6230?
(Only personal experiences please, never mind what nokia say - what have folks out there actually used?)
2) Apart from the light, does the picture 'quality' camera match that of the K700i? (I used 'quality' loosely, as I'm aware this is still limited, and only a 'fun' camera).
3) Also, data transfer from Phone -> PC.
Is there a phone that makes this particularly easier or anything? If I went for the 6230, having a removable card, does this mean that transfering Pic's and Mp3's would be easier/faster by removing the card and using a USB card reader as apposed to getting a bluetooth dongle? (I take it any software I'd need to comunicate between PC and Phone using bluetooth comes with either phone?)
cheers in advance.

@mr. simonward -
1. I guess you can insert/place whatever 'maximum mmc - MB' there is available out in the market. My Dad has used a 256 MB mmc, and it's just doing great! No hangs and does not corrupt
2. I think the SE K700/i fone's camera is quite much better with that of the Nokia's 6230
3. Using a USB Card Reader is definitely far much better and faster when transferring datas from your PC to your mmc
Other opinions are open to be posted. These are just my 'honest' - ideas mates

i had a k700 and swapped it for a 6230. i can honestly say i like the 6230 a lot better.
1. i have a 512 mmc card in my 6230. only problem is that the phone doesnt read the free space. its still there and will still let u use the full 512mb but wont allow u to check the free space. all lower cards work fine. no problems at all
2 the camera is very good imho. best nokia cam on the market exc 7610. video clips are good quality too. only thing thats missing over the k700 is the light and effects such as panaroma.
3. mmc card readers are very fast. i transferred my entire music collection (90 songs) and it took bout 8-9 minutes. i was going to go for a nap while it did it expecting it to take a while, it was finished b4 i fell asleep. transfer using the dku cable is slower but still acceptable.

cheers for the replies folks. Out of interest, how does using the 6230 effect battey life? How much of your 512mb's worth of MP3's do you get through in a charge?
Posted by bajillions
i listen to mp3s for about 3 hours a day. use gprs for about 10 mins make about 20 mins off cals and text a hell of a lot ( 20+ a day) and im getting between 2-3 days use before it dies completely. also if u take the mmc card out and leave the phone on standby i got mine to last 2 weeks without use

that sounds good! it can definately be used as a proper MP3 player then. (I was worried it might drain the battery).
In that case, I might push the boat out for a 512mb MMC (was gonna get a 256). Are you in the UK? where from and how much was your MMC card?
I've found a 256 for about £25.50 inc P+P from:
http://www.7dayshop.com/catal[....]08c3333a9c71e31481c0600d7758f6
- do you reckon I should worry about 'compatability'?
Anyone know a cheap source for a 512 MMC?
I've seen one for about £65.50 inc P+P from:
http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?prod=mmc512_001
could save a tenner by buying 2x 256mb - but then I have to arse around changing the cards all the time....
Actually just got back from phone shop, but have to wait until tomorrow, because there was a problem setting up my account...
My 6230 is on hold though!

actually i got a 1Gb card from www.mobymemory.com and i can tell you it works great with my 6230 (v3,15). what an awesome little phone.
about compatibility, check out this link:
http://forums.mobymemory.com/[....]MessageID=92&TopicPage=&Edit=1
they have info about this topic in other threads but basically card works fine for playing all my music. (just the size of card that displays wrong in the phone.)
well done Nokia! can play all my music on commute to work now straight on my mobile.
also i agree with earlier post about a card reader(pref usb2). it's pretty essential with the big mmc's. takes for ever otherwise with nokia cable or bluetooth

6230 all the way. You can do a search on howardfroums in the Nokia section for compatible cards. There are quite a lot of ppl happily using 1gb cards. I was in your position... deciding between the two, and I opted for the 6230 - MMC support appealed to me more so than the better GUI. Also the k700 is SLOW, especially when you load up the onboard memory. 6230 is very quick to navigate around and you can't beat it for txt messaging. This isn't to slate the k700, cos I'm a fan of SE phones. 6230 makes a wicked MP3 player. I'm opting for a phat mmc instead of getting an ipod. Ipod battery life on 4g models is still pathetic.

After all has been said and done . . . my choice here is the Nokia 6230!

I have also a 6230,but i'm not happy about it,becouse of this.
1 if i listen to MP3,is like hollow effect K700i and P900 much, much better quality.
2 Screen is very small and blurry.
3 The menu and interface is very anoying and boring.
4 The phone looks and feel so cheap.
5 The video player is limit,i hate this.
6 About MMC slot,it's so useless becouse of poor MP3 player and limit video player.
7 It has no animated or not animated theme's.
I don't understand why people choose 6230 over the K700,these people are crazy or They have no idea where they talk about it.

idiot, how can he be jelous he's got a 6230, i had one too n swapped it for a k700 much more happy now. the 6230 cool how it has mmc cards but crap. only good thing about this is if u want to use it as an mp3 plaer. well ok u might not wanna carry around a mp3 player and a fone but the mp3 on 6230 is shite! the quality aint all the tht, the screen reminds me of a 7210, the video quality is appalling! i put a few on my comp n was shocked cos they luk worse thn they do on the fone screen, and on tht they luk shite aswell. the pics aint as gud quality either. basically get a 6230 if ur too cheap to buy an mp3. if u want a better PHONE. get a k700

k700i is _not_ a better phone in my eyes.
why?
because only 510 numbers (not even contacts), search throught the addressbook only with 1 letter, what a joke? "my friends" could be run only over wap gateway (more expensive). calenadar on k700i is a joke, doesn't support reapeted events, the day view isn't any good. you can have only 6 memos on k700i, there is no edge on the phone, you can store only 70 texts on the phone ...
and regarding mp3, I have 512mb card there and I simply don't want to carry another thing around (I had mini disc before and solt it)

Still go for the Nokia 6230 matey !

Hmm... first of all the 1 letter search isn't true. SonyEricsson and Ericsson phones allows you to search with as many letters as you want in the phonebook (This has been true since at least the Ericsson T28, and probably on the earlier phones as well but I can't remember). Saying otherwise just shows that you never used and SE or Ericsson phone or haven't learnt how to use it properly.
The calender on the K700i and the other SE phones are very good. The day view may not be very fancy but does a very good job of what it's supposed to do. Repeated items are possible by syncing to outlook. Most people that use the calender probably sync their phones anyway.

2 ppcrockar: apparently YOU are the one who didn't have k700i in your hands
well if you are in field how do you enter repeating things? oh okey, you will make a todo of making a the event repeating when you arrive back to office

these same redundant, repetitive, recycled, revived, rephrased arguments will never end... beer please!
