It would be interesting to know what type of form factor you guys prefer. Clamshell or block? Personally i prefer the block design. But that maybe because i haven't used a clamshell very often. Your opinions?

I miss my clamshell (my first cell phone!), but I've gotten accustomed to the candybar (block) style of my T616. Love it, but would in back in a heartbeat (only the z600, though).

I feel clamshells are sort of "delicate" phones. It may just be a stereotype. But i feel if these phones fall off your hands, they're gonna end up in the dust-bin. Are clamshells really that delicate or is it just my feeling?

Perhaps because I've always had them (apart from a brief time with a V200), I prefer block or 'candybar' phones - they fill your hand nicely, especially the metallic-type cased phones like the T610!

If the clamshell is well made, it will survive alot.

I love SE CandyBar

I prefer the candy bar style everytime.
However, the advantage of having a flip or clamshell phone is the screen can be much bigger because the keypad is on the other half of the phone. The screen can take up half the phone and still remain small when the phone is closed.

Yeah true. Though i've never used a shell, i'm very much attracted to the z6 ;-)

Yeah the screen can be bigger in a clamshell. But have you people seen what nokia did to their first clam phone the 7200? The screen is so tiny!

And the phone huge! Total shit

I prefer block everyone at my work seems to have gone for a clam just because their friends have i prefer to stand out from the crowd :-)

Block fones. Dont like any extra moves by getting a call.

Are there any new SE clamshells in the pipeline?

It depends on the look, i used to have a sony Z7 flipfone and it was really smart, if it hadnt broken i would still have it! I havent seen very many nice flipphones lately, i dont like the samsung/motorola style, tho having said that i just got an LG8110, but purely because it was a fantastic contract offer. On the whole i would have to say *block* phones are better looking, less fiddly to use.

Blocks are kewl but they tend to get alot of bruising! The whole advantage of a clamshell is that its screen is protected altho like my v600 that wasnt by those motorola goons :-l

Is the nokia 7200 a smartphone?

i do like clamshells, the only reason being the internal screen wont get scratched very easily. But i prefer candybar phones.

Give me my brick! My father owns some motorola clamshell and his screen is scratched as bad as any other phone Ive seen. Also, some clams are a bit tender but some will take a beating, such as being stood on (hehe, dont try to play pool with a phone in your shirt pocket). But some clams are just plain revolting. If the screen is placed lower then the keypad when it is open, it deserves to be chucked in the bin and you should rush out and buy a brick.

And which brick would you buy? :-D

Anything SE of course....

do they even have any bricks???
Posted by whizkidd
They can be termed 'miniature bricks' . The T610 and the likes!
Posted by 50Cent
ahh.. i suppose. or they could be termed Lego Bricks
Posted by Residentevil
I prefer bricks, because the form factor is smaller than an open flip. Important for bluejacking.
Posted by etaab
I dont like the term candy bar though..
Cake bar sounds better. yum.

Has anyone of you seen this phone? The Pantech GV880? The strangest clamshell phone i have ever seen.

It looks more like a vanity box! In case you peeps dunno, this phone even has a mirror like surface on the flip! The worlds first eva vanity phone! The fairer sex might be interested hmmm...

its quirky, i'll give it that. it was selling for about $430 or summin.

Usually the term ''brick'' is saved for Nokia's and candybar phones are block phones. There's no such thing as a cakebar, so that's why we don't call candybar phones cakebar phones.

I prefer a good ol candybar style phone, clamshells are just to thick and cubersome.

Call them poo phones, if you've got a rally twisted imagination, the peanuts and sweetcorn could be buttons... i'll get my coat.
