Turboy here, (http://www.turboy.xs3.com)

I work in a mobile phone store in Melbourne, Australia and we just got our stock taken away and upgraded with the new R2E011 version.

This firmware is not yet officially released, but the SE Service centre already has it. It's still HUSH-HUSH. The general public can't get it done just yet.
We got our stock upgraded early because I kicked up such a fuss about all the bugs.

I've used the new R2E011 for a couple of days now and have NOT seen 1 bug that I found on my previous R2A041 (Which had far too many bugs to handle. View my previous post which listed most of them here : http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=64969 )

The battery meter is even fixed up!
But unfortunately the battery still doesn't last very long. I didn't notice a difference in battery length to the previous FW.

Now the phone is absolutely beautiful! Works as it should and nothing to annoy you.

There's nothing at all different in the Operating system. I was hoping to see some new and different things (Like MP3 SMS), but no luck. It is exactly the same but without the Software glitches. Same menu speed too.

Here is a screenshot I just took of my phone below, and if anyone has any questions regarding the new Firmware R2E011, just post here and I'll check 'em out on my phone and get back to ya. Or you could email me at : turboymp3@hotmail.com

Cheers,

Turboy.

isn't R2J is the latest firmware version ?

Posted by siglo
I've had this firmware version a while ago, maybe a week or so.. for me, it did introduce new bugs rather than fix the exsisting ones.. now.. when I start the phone sometimes I cannot access the phone book.. I have to turn the phone off and on a couple of times and then I would be able to access the phone book.. didn't notice any improvments at all.. the battery life is still the same.. the service center here stopped upgrading phones to this version.. they say SE told them to wait untill a newer version is avaiable..

my phone has a couple bugs:
Panarama doesnt work
sometimes my phone just resets itself to a white screen, flashes, and then re-loads the desktop/phone.
Any help?

How do i get to that software screen?
whats the command?

Posted by AMalakani
What about the phone light "During Calls - Submenus - Charging when the phone power is OFF"? It stays "ON"

Also the phone always prompts me to enter the phone lock when switching it "ON" with the same SIM and the phone lock mode is "Automatic".

Have they put a snooze feature on the recurrent alarm?Seems strange that this was left off.

Posted by turboy
- ProficienT : It seems you may have the old Firmware (R2A041). Check by pressing >*<<*<* (Joystick Right, Star, Left, Left, Star, Left, Star) and Go into Service Info then Software info.

I also checked the ALARM. There is definately a Snooze but I'm not sure if my old R2A041 phone had it coz I don't ever use it.

Also, seeing as I have used almost every model phone available, people have been writing to me asking my favourite phones at the moment, so here's my top 5 :

1. SE K700i - (Doesn't matter which Firmware, it's still #1)
2. Nokia 7610
3. Nokia 6230
4. Motorola V600 (Most Motos are useless except this one)
5. SE T630

My first phone was a Ericsson GF768 (Was worth $1400 in 1997), then a T18, Nokia 3210, Nokia 8250, Siemens SL45 (Not a bad phone for it's time), T68, T68i, T610, T630, K700i - And every other phone in between each.
Even though I have put Nokia at #2 & 3, I don't like Nokias at all. Too slow and very restrictive. SE's give you the freedom. Motorolas are still too hard to use - Takes 3 times as long to do anything on a Moto.

Anyway, keep any more questions coming on the new firmware for the K700i and I'll check it out, but like I said, there are no real changes, just fixed up all the bugs.

Though I have T68i I tested one day the K700i. During 5-6 hours the K700i had this problem twice. I just quess maybe this bug will vanish in next softwares.

me too I experienced this white screen once playing with the camera!
about the batterie lasting more,it should be repaired on the R3A FW coming in 2 weeks

hey turbo,

I'm receiving my k700i tomorrow (monday) by post (bought it via ebay) and like to update the f/w before I start adding all my contacts etc.
Can you tell me where in Melbourne I can go to get the update? Can I come and see you? Is there a SE service-point in MEL at all?

thanks for your threads. really helpful!

@All

I just got back from my SE Service Center, as well as my friend who happens to be the manager there and he said to run, do not walk away from this R2E011 update. It is more a problem than a fix. He stated that SE has told them not to update anymore and that the fix to the battery and BT is on the way very soon. Within 6 to 7 days. The next update will fix all the bugs(hopefully) that are found in the previous updates.

By the way, has anyone noticed that the BT does not release the headset, but continues to keep the communication between the BT headset and the phone locked together? This kills my battery. I am only getting a bit over half a day if I use my HBH-65. Does anyone else know this problem are willing to address it to SE?

Cheers,

Don

Posted by HjJ
@sapporobaby:

I have the same locked-to-eachother and battery-life experience as you have, using the HBH-60 headset.

I have reported this to SE support, but I get the impression that the communication between support and development at SE is a one-way street. Three days after people reported the R2E-release for K700 here on Esato, the support department at SE strongly denied that there was a new release coming, "because we have not heard that R&D are planning it"...

<3 u

So how do i upgrade the firmware please? i wanna use panarama and i want my phone to stop freezing, help

@ProficienT

Dude, R2E011 has problems. Have you not read the posts concerning this? Are you willing to take the chance to break more you fix? While I can understand wanting to get the most from your phone but I am not willing to have to go back to have it upgraded once again. With this being said, if you do have yours upgraded to R2E011 and you have problems, 1. Told you so. 2. Told you so again. 3. To avoid points 1 and 2 it would be best to keep your misfortunes secret. Good luck.

is there no versions between these 2?

My friend has the k700i and purchased it at the same place as me, and has the same firmware! but he can take panorama pics and his phone has never reset.

I really wanna fix my phone, im just wondering why his works n mine doesnt and if there is anything at all i can do to fix it

Posted by sitalchauhan
just take the phone back and they should give you a new one if you proove that your fiend's phone works.

Posted by Gabster
It looks like SE has really made abit of a cock up with the K700, it released it with many bugs, then it releases a new firmware which cases even more problems. The K700 is a fantasic phone, such a shame that it has so many bugs!

Posted by ProficienT
hey dont get me wrong, i love this phone. underline LOVE.
it is AWESOME! The only problem i have with it is the panorama doenst work.
it has reset 2 times in 4 days, big deal!

Im just happy to know firmware can fix it.
This phone is awesome. pure awesome!

Posted by sitalchauhan
mine works fine atm. no problems at alll apart from in BT, but i dont use it much
thats y im not gonna upgrade firmware.

Posted by rufocused
I kept geting the white flashing screen when pressing the + or - button to see the phone status, then a master reset of settings caused it to flash when exiting from submenus with the backup key. I the did two master resets in succesion, and now so far i get no white screen with whatever i do. Never had any probs with panoramic though.

Posted by AMalakani
I’m really confused now, do I update to R2E011 or not?
My K700 works fine but there is some minor problems that I like to see it fixed with the new software.

Posted by sapporobaby
I would not upgrade the phone. While R2E011 my fix things, SE says that it is not ready. I am in Kuwait and it is not possible to get a service center to do the upgrade to R2E011 anymore because of the prolems that this upgrade causes.

In the end, the choice is yours. If want to get it upgraded, by all means get it upgrade.

Posted by Kyniver
I haven't got the phone yet but i am doing some research on it (like rite now) and it seems that it has a lot of bugs. Should i wait for a newer version or should i just get it now and get the new software when it comes out.

Does it really have that many bugs?

right now there r only people who praise it and then people who condemn its bugs

Posted by jakontil
Well i luv this mobile since day one it's released here at premium price witout knowing the bugs it carried, havent upgraded firmware but i'm one hapi user

Posted by vegetaleb
K700i with R2A and no real problems, just the batterie life(but it's increasing charge after charge!) and a white screen for a couple of seconds in intensive light camera mode and a uncompatible game
Will upgrade to R3A the next FW that's coming right after R2E because it will be the REAL upgrade, just wait 10 to 15 days

Posted by sapporobaby
I too love the phone and have not had the major problems that many here are experiencing. I realize that the K700i is a phone first, camera, media player second, third, etc... The only problem I have is with the BT, but SE also knows that this is a problem and supposedly a fix is in the works. Now if I can just get Apple to fix their iSync.

Cheers,

Don

Well thanx for the info, I'm a Perth Australian so i'll be getting the phone and waiting for the newer firmware. The R2J i think it is. How exasctly do u change the firmware and is it a risk of any sort?

Posted by ProficienT
knyver im in perth and me and my friend allready have the K700i's Had them for about a week man

Posted by superjorn82
I don't understand why everyone is so upset about this fw?! its been like this from the dawn of days! every phone has fw problem when their first released! se, nokia etc all wants to release their new phones asap (probably because all you guys here at esato keep talking about them to hurry up etc) Did you guys really think that the k700 would be bug free?! there is no such thing as bug free. I like the k700 even though its not bug free, and i'll keep upgrading it until i buy a new phone, witch also will be full of bugs. thats just the way the story goes...

Posted by vojta66
@superjorn82
I fully agree with you.

Posted by michka
And you are happy that you buy phones full of bugs?
Simply because the phone makers don't spend enough on testing and quality assurance before releasing a new model?
You know what, in two years time they will start selling phones which do not even connect to the network. And you will still be happy!

Posted by damo55
The k700 would almost certainly freeze on a 999 call.I sold mine to a friend about a week ago for £160 or 180.Yesterday,he asked me if i wanted to buy it back for £95,but i would rather streak in manchester on a peak hour, than fritter my money on useless tat.

Posted by JKay
Its one thing that new bugs are introduced. Another thing is when features disappear!
In version R2E the appointments are no longer marked as bold dates in the month calender. So now I can no longer see on which days I need to do things. Now I have to go to the week view to see my appointments. I find that really annoying!

Posted by turboy
JKay,

I also noticed that the date is no longer in BOLD on the R2E011 Firmware!
I use calendar alot and now this'll throw a spanner in the works.

I think the firmware programmers need something to keep them occupied or secure their jobs. Leave something out on purpose give's 'em work to come up with the fix.

Apart from that, I'm loving the phone - I can't play with it enough.
(Too bad you can only fit 80 games in the phone max - I have 90).

Posted by vojta66
this is really a pain in the a** with calendar.......i just have mine k700i for an upgrade.......supposingly it will be upgraded for R2E....ufffffff

Posted by dj_wolfinstein
Hi,
Well if the rumor is true that R3A version of the firmware will be out..then I think I will wait..Not very keen on updating to the R2E version as my R2A does not suffer much apart frm the battery issue...+ everyone here has confused me even more that R2E is more of a damaged version..
If anyone is writing next to SE or any SE tech reading please note...!

1) The microphone lags 3 seconds for the caller to hear the receivers voice.

2) Why is different battery being sold in different regions..Is to save cost or increase your profit.

Hmm, how is it with the phone memory when a firmware update is done? Will any settings prior to the update remain? Will music and java apps remain in memory? Phonebook? Or is it a total wipeout?

Have a nice day!

Posted by damo55
3 second lag,yeah i remember that.HELLO,HELLO,can you hear me?What next se?

Posted by themarques
Well you guys shouldnt complain to much, unless you would prefer they do what they did with the Z1010 and announce it in 2003 and then release it on 2004!!! I guess they were trying to sort out the firmware (NOT). Took a hell of a long time though...

Posted by GTiR88
There has been news of a new Firmware R2L001

Seems to be only overseas at the moment.

I've rang phonetec and accord... they only supply R2E upgrades.....

Has anyone heard of this new upgrade in Australia?

Posted by nhs03
well i really don't have that many problems w/my K. everything is fine, the panoramic feature, the screensaver, pretty much everything is OK!
but the only thing i would have to agree in would be the 3 seconds delay when answering, that is a total bitch, i actually have to wait to hear background noise before i can say "hello"
OH and another thing, i downloaded the java game called "alien scum" along w/others and well everything was fine until 2 days ago the game would act up, it would ask me for language, no scores archived, no sounds, so i decided to delete it... BAD IDEA!! now i can't find that game anywhere on SE via WAP, can anyone help me get this game back? it's my favorite one!! please any help would help!! tanx

All K700 can be flash to a newer version I had a Hong Kong (R2A) and I took it to the SE center and they flash the R2L for me

@JKay, and everybode else regarding the new fw R2E011.

I just got my mobile back from FW flashing, and I have found so many bugs in this firmware already. I have called SE CallCenter, and they say that these errors did not exist when they tested it nor have they got any bug reports. Among that is the calendar-thing you were talking about, that days aren't bold anymore when there is a meeting - SE says that they SHOULD be, and that they were when they tested.

I do not know if it works that way, but it seems to me as if the guys where I handed the phone in possibly could have done something very wrong with their software.. I have found seweral things - you can't search the phonebook with more than one letter anymore (which you should be able to according to SE), the SE logo that appears right after the phone is started is somehow distorted/pixelated or whatever you call it, some (only some) of my pictures were totally black after the upgrade, even the speaker is somehow strange now, it tends to sound very distorted at high volume levels, which it hasn't before. I can't see the clock when I press the volume buttons with the screen turned off - nothing happens... I think the phone is responding slower.
I could go on forever.

The sad thing is that the phone was totally (well..) bug free when I handed it in with the R2AA003 FW.

Though I have found some new things... The screen WILL shut itself off in Power Save-mode when you are in menus and etc, after a little while it first goes to Standby mode where the background picture is and then it turns itself off. It doesn't seem to turn off during calls though, not even the light.

I live in Sweden by the way, and the phone is new from christmas..

If you, govigov, by "you" mean me, then NO, I am not talking about R2AE, I am talking about R2E011 which I had installed today. I agree that it appears to be something else, but it's not. I can't be arsed to take a picture of it right now..

Posted by govigov
Ok. Sorry Dude. if i sounded rude. It is just that the latest firmware is r2ae and all of the service centre and the update service now offers this new r2ae firmware.

Posted by uncoloured
No, I'm sorry..

Aright, then I am really confused. I am certain that the SE guys (called seweral times) said that the latest FW was released today and that it was called R2E011.. And the service centre is directly connected to SE, yes, and they even updated it seweral times to try and get the errors away. It's all very strange..

Posted by govigov
Sorry dude. Now you know the latest firmware is r2ae, try to get it. :-) (the se service centre will never do that, they got a policy of updating every cust that walks in. ) Something must have gone wrong and they could not upgrade your phone. So they put on that works and then gives it to you.
