When I go to the > * < < * menu, I would like to change the text labels, to make my mobile more funny...

How can I change the text of the labels?

no, they are in the firmware. I suppose if you can find a copy of the firmware you could possibly use a hex editor to change those then reflash your phone but I wouldn't recommend that

It is quite feasible to change the text labels with hex editor, as masseur said, however, it's not as simple as it sounds.

The firmware has a checksum built-in to it to check whether the firmware has been modified. Even just changing one character would make the checksum invalid. So you'd need a program to re-calculate the checksum after modification, and then re-apply that checksum to the firmware, so to the phone it appears ok.

The guys over at Cellular Support have some interesting tutorials on hex editing firmware, which may give you enough info to try... or frighten you enough not to bother!!!

A laymans question. How is a Firmware upgradation done? Especially on my T230 which doesn't have any connectivity options. Sorry if this question is foolish!

Apart from a P900 and now K700 to do a frimware upgrade you have to take the mobile to the nearest SE service centre. Its free if the phone is under warranty. in case you were wondering Firmware = Software for the phone

ok, thanx.

I am thinking to give up this idea, but was curious thing...

Even the hex editor sounds good, I'm gonna try it...

@ anish i know that FW is the software for phones. What i was asking is that how do they put it inside the phones. Especially on phones which cannot be connected to any external devices.

the firmware on the T230 is updated in the same way as all other Sony ericsson phones. They plug a flashing cable into the connector on the bottom of the phone.
