Problems with International SMS on Verizon in USA

Verizon apparently offer international SMS with affiliated carriers/service providers around the world. Unfortunately it doesn't work. My girlfriend is based in the US and I spend most of my time in the UK, she's on Verizon and I'm on O2, whilst i can send her messages she receives and can read, she can send me messages but I don't receive them despite O2 being the only participating carrier for the UK...

What are we doing wrong? At the moment the only solution is to use MSN Messenger for mobile, which actually probably only costs a tad more.

Being 'on verizon' probably means a verizon simcard. Is your girlfriend roaming on another us network? As that may create problems sometimes (I could not send international sms from my us t mobile sim when roaming on at&t last year)

My girlfriend lives in the New York and is a Verizon Customer...

As a current O2 UK and at one time Orange UK customer I have never had problems sending texts to the US and within the US (sending domestically to US phones and UK phones in the US, and all phones outside the US) primarily on Cingluar and AT&T networks.
