This works for video mode but is not available when in camera mode.
In handbook it says that zoom is available for camera and not video.
Any 1 else find this?

I think I better add this one to the Answers to the most common questions on Esato Forums (FAQ style) too...

taken from the K700 faq

I can not use the zoom when in camera mode?
When you can use the zoom is depending on what picture size you've selected. When the zoom functionality is available a magnifying glass appears in the top of the display. Use the navigation key, up/down, to zoom.

Camera:
1280x960 pixels (Extended) - Zoom is not available
640x480 pixels (VGA) - Zoom is not available
320x240 pixels (QVGA)- 2x zoom
160x120 pixels (QQVGA) - 4x zoom
Video:
176x144 pixels - 2x zoom
128x96 pixels - 4x zoom

Does zoomin make it look crap though?

Yes, because its digital zoom.

If it were optical zoom it would look fine, but all digital zoom does is take the existing picture, and bring it closer to you. Kind of like if you want to see something on a TV screen better, you sit closer. But if you sit too close, you see all the pixels and it turns into one big mess.

Actually, this is an odd case. If it were "normal" digi zoom you would lose image quality, as it simply expands the exisiting data. But if it was "normal" digi zoom you would be able to zoom at 640*480 and reduce image quality. With the K700i the zoom is related to the resolution, so 320*240 allows 2x zoom. What it does here is, at no zoom each pixel is made up from a 2*2 section of the sensor, giving 320*240, when you zoom you simply only use the middle 320*240 set of pixels on the sensor, giving the same resolution image with no loss of quality. Same goes for 160*120 which is 4x smaller.
