Need a little help with the Sun prepaid sim that I bought. I previously had another Sun prepaid sim which I used for browsing. I "ruined" that simcard when I tried to use it in a micro dual simcard holder. I accidentally cut too much of it. I got the micro dual simcard holder to work for my K700 but I ruined my Sun simcard so I bought another one. My mistake was that I erased the gprs settings on my phone.

I "activated" gprs by sending "ACTIVATE" to 2300. I tried using the settings I got from "the mall" and also the one from Sony Ericsson and also the settings suggested here but I still couldn't browse. I got the mms to work though.

I've tried using both "wap" and "minternet" as the apn but still couldn't get it to work. Sun's customer service wasn't any help as they replied that wap was still in the testing phase and was not available. Any ideas why I can't connect?

@ dinky

the settings found in ericsson site is correct. (or use this one...i.p.address: 192.168.164.21)

that should work.

the problem is, network congestion... you'll surely be able to browse between 1 am to 8am. sometimes, if lucky enough, you may be able to browse any time of the day but hell slow.

@ex_crusader: thanx. was able to connect already.

Posted by dinky
@ex_crusader thanks. That's the same IP address from the settings I got from "the mall" but I still couldn't get it to work. I will try to connect in the wee hours as you suggested. Hope it works out. By the way, what apn should I use, wap or minternet?

Posted by ex_crusader
use the wap apn, for most of the sun subrscribers here claim that it is free of charge, while minternet is charged 25cents/kb, furthermore, i dont think minternet still works, correct me if i'm wrong.

Posted by dlreyes
It still does...

Posted by ex_crusader
ok

Posted by dinky
I was able to connect! But it really was rather slow. I used wap as apn thanks @ex_crusader!

Has anyone been able to set up their email client using sun cellular? I tried to connect using the account I used for browsing but "connection failed". Any ideas?

i can't seem to access yahoo messenger using sun gprs...anyone care to help? and gprs with sun is slow! or is it just with the settings i have?

Posted by ex_crusader
@ dinky

e-mail client works fine..

you have to take in to consideration the correct settings.. and also your e-mail provider... (hotpop is ok, and others... i dont know about yahoo). and lastly, input the DNS address of Sun which can be found in sun's website..

Posted by dinky
@excrusader thanks, I will try it maybe later. Im on wap right now.

@excrusader wow!! that's very nice!! ill try that also!! did this work for anybody here? thanx excrusader!!

minternet is an APN, you proly meant wap. btw, you'll know that by checking it in "data comm." , then in the "internet profiles"... the active internet profile you're using should have the "data account" (whose apn is wap) selected.

@ kenski

i think it works with wap also, but i'm not hundred percent sure. the last time i used my e-mail client, minternet was my apn.

Posted by bouncybanana
@kenski yun nga e, it doesnt work for yahoo messenger

Posted by ex_crusader
@ bouncy

that should work. http://wap.oa.yahoo.com i was able to connect to it days ago. but i dont know now.

ANother question. am swithcing sim (sun and smart) on my P800.. question is should i switch wap/gprs, mms profiles every time i switch sims? am afraid kase na i won't be able to recive MMS messages when i turn back to my main sim (which is smart) How do i know that ive set the MMS profile back to that of Smart? or automatic yun?

Hi people - just need some help. I've been trying to activate my sun MMS and GPRS but I'm having the following error.

MMS error: Access to your MMS service has been denied, Please check your WAP/MMS settings from the control panel or contact your provider - Reason COde 0 x 103

GPRS - Access denied -

I''ve already tried the setting based on sonyericsson website as well as Activate and sending to 2300.

I'm wondering kung may kinalaman yung pagchachange ko to openline from a globe locked fone.

My phone model is Sonyericsson P900.

Sana may makatulong sa akin.

Posted by mcbernz007
you need to openline your phone first

are you still using your postpaid for wap?i recently got a sun postpaid acct, and i've been using it to download programs thru wap.it's fun, but i'm worried it won't be as much fun when i get my bill. does sun indicate your gprs usage on the bill? and also, if i get a prepaid acct, do i have to get another setting for GPRS or can i use the setting from my postpaid acct?
they say on their website that access to gprs is P0.25/kb, although i'm not sure if that also apply to wap.
thanks!

Has anyone here been able to make the sun gprs work for opera internet

Posted by s700lover
... browser?Can anyone teach me how?Im using a 6600.Thanx!

Posted by mary_md
@moochcaboodle- Try to configure your Sun settings manually. For Sun WAP GPRS, Data bearer-GPRS, APN-wap, IP address-192.168.164.21, homepage-http://www.suncellular.com.ph. Also check if Sun WAP and Sun MMS settings are your default settings.

Posted by mary_md
@hugh_lee- Yes, i'm still using my Postpaid plan to browse WAP. It's free. The only thing itemized in my bill is GPRS internet, using "minternet" as the APN. The 25cents/kb charge only applies to INTERNET browsing and not WAP browsing. You can still use your current settings if you decide to buy i prepaid account but you have to send ACTIVATE to 2300 first to activate your prepaid WAP and MMS.

Posted by mary_md
@s700lover and p3rsmag- You can't connect to Opera browser using Sun WAP GPRS. You can browse it using the APN- minternet. If you don't have the settings, copy your WAP setting and change the APN wap to "minternet". But you will be charge 25cents/kb. My advise is, if you want to browse Opera (the APN is minternet), turn the images off so you could save money and try checking your bill from time to time.

i propose to change mary_md to Mary_md_suncell_guru

hehehhe..

thanks!

Posted by translator_lapid
@s700lover - Try Reqwireless Webviewer. It works on wap access point. It's a fast browser too because it's proxied.

Posted by hugh_lee
thanks, mary_md. i assume i still don't get charged even if i download programs/applications thru wap sites, right? thanks.

Posted by ex_crusader
correct.

Posted by mcbernz007
does your free gprs still work? i cant connect for 2 days already

Posted by p3rsmag
OO nga ako rin, i have not been able to connect to wap since Friday pa?!!

WTF is wrong?!

Posted by hugh_lee
it's erratic. a lot of fimes, you get a connection, but then you can't download stuff.. or maybe you can but it takes a long time, and i don't have the patience. all in all, you can still get a connection but not as consistent as before. oh, wait.. was it ever?

BTW, ex_crusader, was your post in reference to my question? thanks

@ hugh_lee

yup...

ako din, i cant connect for 3 days now. the error message is "GPRS parameter not supported". haaaayyyy!!!!

Someone has got to get SUn Cellular's attention.

The free calls/texts to sun subscribers only IS NOT SUFFICIENT ENOUGH TO SUSTAIN MY INTEREST in keeping my subscription with them.

Palakasin ang WAP/GPRS!!

by the way ano ba target market ng SUN? in line ba with globe/smart or parang talk & text/touchmobile?

Posted by duo_m
uhh...i want to ask something. i've been reading this thread and became interested in swithching telcos since i use wap/gprs very often and got piqued about the unlimited access and free usage of sun. my question is: is the coverage sufficient, especially in the provinces? when i send sms would it come on time, give or take a few seconds? how about voice clarity? data transfer rates? i'm asking heare beacause the lot of you has had 1st hand experience and asking the people at sun would give me biased answers.
hope you guys could help. thanks!

Posted by p3rsmag
@duo_m

where is your province exactly? well i guess the best option is to buy a prepaid sim (only 150) and try it out before you get a post paid account with Sun.

See like here in QC, ang lakas ng signal pero may dead spots pa rin so it really depends on your exact location.

SO try it out, at home at work or at school, ur GF/bf's area the places that you frequent and check the signal strength.

and if you have SMan you can use its GPS type of function wherein you can see the Cell ID and signal strength

good luck.

PERO WALA PA RING WAP!! grrr......

Does anybody know how to hack the Virgin Mobile UK network for free MMS/GPRS? I have tried minternet for the APN and it doesn't work. My phone is a Sendo S600. Somebody please help me.

Posted by duo_m
@p3rsmag

i tried what you have suggested but i found myself wanting. i'm from laguna and there are more dead spots here than i could care to mention. i roam around region 4 and the ncr. in the ncr i've no problems with signal save for a few dead spots that you mentioned but when i go back to my province and adjacent places... let's just say there's a heck of lot of room (a house?) of improvements before i switch telcos. and no wap? what's up with that?

try reading howard's forum about using a wap tunnel to browse wap/websites.

Posted by toho
xplizit_76, can you pls elaborate on this wap tunnel thing. l'm mobile surfing at the moment & howard forum's mobile rendering is truncated. TIA

Posted by xplizit_76
wap tunnel is like using a proxy host or simply another i.p. address to connect to the web. There are individuals or groups who want to test their web/wapsites thats why they allow somebody, everyone to use their i.p. address. for more details.... try to search howard's forum regarding this topic.
