With reference to this topic I have become interested in an issue that might concern a few more than member nina.
The topic refereed to is in Norwegian so I'll fill you all in:
She bought a T630 and later changed network provider to one called Sense.
She wanted MMS on her phone and found that Sense are charging 5 Norwegian Kroner (equivalent to 50 UK pence) for each automatic configuration SMS sent to her phone. It says on Sesnes' site that a few messages will be sent to her in order to activate the MMS settings on her phone. So: half a £ per message and no indication of how many messages needs to be sent to her. I.e.: she was looking at Esato to find the manual settings but avail. (No, don't have them.)

I am curious to know:
Does your network provider charge for setting for your phone in order to be able to use their services?

Norway:
TeleNor Mobil: NO
NetCom: NO
Sense: YES

O2 UK = NO

That is the most stupid thing ever. The company is shooting themselves in the foot, because people won't pay for the settings and therefore they will make no money from MMS.

That is exactly why I picked up on it.

I'll give it a few days and send the link to this topic to those network providers who charge for settings.

Thanks so far guys.

In Canada...

Most phones, because they're branded, the settings are preset, but if you need them, they are free...can't believe you can actually get charged for that shit!!! I certainly wouldn't pay for it...

Technically O2 and vodafone uk do. When you phone up to ask for settings to be sent, it costs 50p on O2 and 25p on voda to even speak to someone.

Hutch india charges for the message sent. but imo that should be free too. I for one never pay for the text. Just enter settings manually :-)

Nope, u are worng there m8. DiGi Telecomunications (Malaysia) does charge RM0.50 per sms configuration for MMS/GPRS. I got conned, if i knew that before, i wud have entered it manually or sent it via OTA from their website.

@tranquil i remember her to have a thread about mms, i answered, but she didnt reported what happened. Btw the settings here are for free.

Posted by BOSSHOGG
@lynx, true about that. But not everyone has the internet. The majority will have to pay for the call.

@plasmadog, I'm talking payasyougo/prepay/non contract. You get charged to speak to someone on all the prepay networks, not for other options, just customer care as a last resort.

Most contract phones however have the settings already or have an option to get them in the phone by sms. Not sure if they charge for speaking to someone on contract?
