Ok so i'm considering getting a mini ipod, mainly because 1000 songs is more than enough and i think they're a good size and cool. Any1 got one and if so what you think. Also any1 in the uk got one, any good sources or cheapest. Finally will i get a better price if i wait till they're properly released. Thank you. Any help appreciated. :-D

Personally i think anything with the word ipod in its name is overpriced and overated

Posted by BOOYAR

Booyar. ive got a Gold Mini iPod I got it from America well had it shipped ova, I paid 170quid for it brandnew from a good seller on eBay.com the delivery took 3days.

@BOOYAR:

Apple still haven't officially announced a European release date or price, however, HMV have them for pre-order on their web-site at £199. It remains to be seen if that will be the final price.

If it was me, I'd wait for the official European release for warranty purposes.

Its not worth the money when you can get 10 gigabytes more space for another 50 quid. You wont get 1000 songs on it if you care about sound quality either....... i just think you might regret it when the novelty factor wears off, and you run out of space.

Posted by BOOYAR
run out of space, what are you on about, 1000 songs is roughly 70 albums. I have less than that, and listen to a fraction regulaly

Posted by Jools
Plus the fact that even if you did have more than 1000 songs stored in iTunes, you can just copy a sub-set of them to the iPod. Unless you want to listen to more than 60 hours of music in one go, an iPod mini has plenty of space!

Why do you need to carry that much music with you anyway?

I've got a 10gb iPod with 2300+ tunes on it, 95% full. However, I only listen to a small proportion of my whole collection at any one time. I could easily manage with a smaller iPod.

Posted by switchbitch
Well 70 of my cds encoded at 192kbps occupied about 3.8 gigabytes so you may be pushing it. Then again, you can encode at 128kbps which is acceptable for most people.

Do you really want to decide what music you want to listen to before you go out, then spend a bunch of time copying/deleting the songs you want? Later in the day you might find yourself hankering for some of the songs you left on your pc. Thats the purpose of an ipod, to have all your music with you. Otherwise you might aswell just use oggplay on your p9.

Personally, I usually go through 'phases' of music listening, whereby I'll listen to the same few current favourite or new albums and tracks for a few days/weeks at a time. So I don't change my listening every time I go out.

Even if I did want to change the music I have with me, it doesn't take a 'bunch of time'. It takes a matter of minutes, if not seconds to plug the iPod into my Mac, drag 'n' drop the files and disconnect.

I guess it depends on the size of your music collection and whether you really do need to have every track you own with you all the time. I would guess that most people don't.

the actual retail price for the iPod here is gonnabe 250quid u can bet on it! take a look at apple.com btw its a international warranty and u can charge it on uk mains etc why wait 2mths for it when u can get it now and save a few bob?

I dont understand why anyone would buy a mini. Its only SLIGHTLY cheaper than a 10 or 15gb model, its only SLIGHTLY smaller than a 10 or 15gb model, but its capacity is SIGNIFICANTLY less than a 10 or 15gb model. The only possible reason for having one is coolness factor- which i have to admit is a major factor in my purchasing decisions- but logically, the mini needs to come down in price before it is worth buying.

@switchbitch:

Take a read of this article which explains why the iPod mini isn't as bad value as you think when compared to its intended competition (i.e. not other iPods).

As it says "iPod mini is not meant to be an alternative to the iPod, but to the high-end flash-based and other small hard drive-based players."

What a coincidence! Apple have just today announced that the iPod mini will be available in Europe on July 24th for £179.00.

It's just been added to the UK Apple Store.

Not long to wait BOOYAR...

Meaning the 15gb is only £40 more...

Posted by Jools
£40 more? Where? On the AppleStore the 15gb iPod is £248.99. Making the iPod mini 35% smaller physical size for £69.99 less!

Posted by BOOYAR
You have to face the fact that if you only want 4gb then the ipod mini is the best. I think all the grief about standard ipods being better (not particullary at any1 in this post) are due to jealousy

Great news about the release date

Me wanty, me wanty, me wanty

Also good of apple to coincide roughly with my birthday (21st july)

P.S i think its goona have to be Blue all the way

Posted by Miss UK
Oh well its available at the end of the mth so what I got mine before that long wait lol

Posted by BOOYAR
Missuk does it meet your expectations

Posted by Miss UK
Yes it does im glad ive got it, its a neat gadget reminds me of a mobile phone abit its got a nice blue display just like a nokia 8310 it has games and the sound quality is fantastic! jus gotta find more traxx to add to it now lo

When i was buying my ipod a few weeks ago, i had the option of getting a 15gb for £215, or a mini for about £180. I was attracted to the mini by virtue of coolness factor, but logic prevailed in the end since a mini wouldnt hold all my albums, and it would have been stupid for me to sacrifice 11gb to save a few quid....
If you want a mini, i can understand why but it does make more sense to get a 10 or 15 if you have more than 20 cds.

Posted by Miss UK
Ive got more that 20cds but I aint stickin emm on my Pod! the whole idea for me buyin a Pod was so that I downloaded traxx and put those onto it.. I can listen to my cds on my cdplayer etc.

Posted by BOOYAR
You can fit 70+ on 4 gig anyway in aac and they sound fine. And thats enough 4 me.

Posted by Miss UK
lol exactly!

Posted by BOOYAR
Well anyway i've preordered from the applestore because i want a european guarantee. The build time says 4 weeks. I think this will be the quickest way without having to import

Posted by switchbitch
If you get a european one it has a volume limiter on it.

... which can easily be removed by using the software here!.

Posted by BOOYAR
Sorry i've lost you. Volume limiter?

Posted by switchbitch
Yup, it means that the volume output is limited. This leaves your tunes sounding a bit feeble. But its easily overcome by using the software the above poster mentioned, and Eupod volume boost is the windows alternative.

Posted by Jools
Because Apple sell the iPod within the EU they have to abide by EU laws relating to sound output from mobile devices (the EN 50332-1 standard). Basically it consists of two parts. The first part demands that mobile equipment should be limited to 100dB(A) sound pressure using the accompanying headphones. The second part constraints the output power of the device, hence covering any combination of equipment and headphones.

ALL MP3 players, CD Players, Walkmans etc. have this so-called 'limit' so don't worry about it. Your shiny new iPod won't be any quieter than any other European bought personal MP3, CD, Cassette player...

And as noted above its easy to bypass.

Cheers for all your help guys and girls.

@ Booyar.
I really doubt my iPod is gonna break it's only ppl who wanna take there pods out that seem to damage them, btw I use mine around the house, My area is abit of a Pod paradise

Also, bout you worrying bout the warranty whats gonna happen? i'll only have to worry about the battery when that goes in 12mths

Posted by BOOYAR
I suppose it won't really matter but i think £180 is a good price with free shipping and i should have it by early aug. Other than ebay i can't see me getting one sooner. I'm patient :-D. I am due my phone upgrade at a similar time. So it'll be a k700 and a ipod in the same month:-).

Posted by Miss UK

Oh and theres me thinking i had to buy one lol. Sounds like a pyramid scheme to me. The internets rife with them at the mo. I know it doesn't ask for money. My guess is they're gonna ask for a joining fee and are currently testing the water to get an idea of how much interest/how much to ask for. Love to believe it though

Posted by Miss UK

Posted by Miss UK
Why September :-l thats crazy.. Im sure AMAZON USA wont ship coz I wanted a NIKE MP3 PLAYA LASTYR from AMAZON.DE they dont ship

Posted by BOOYAR
Are you wanting the ful colour range or something. :-D u got an mini itrip?

Posted by Miss UK
Nah but I did want a Pink pod unfortuanatley had to ave gold enn was cheapa on eBay! Whats the iTrip?

Posted by BOOYAR
The iTrip fits onto your iPod and transmits at the FM frequency you want,
allowing you to listen to your ipod on say, your car radio etc, as long as you are near by.

The old ipod ones will work but the new ones will be flush with the miniipod and i believe the colours will match

Posted by Miss UK
Intresting I cant drive tho.. :-) ..I have DAB at home btw.. Altho I need a case for Pod r they available?

Posted by BOSSHOGG
It won't work on dab. The itrip is also illegal in the uk. It's the same as running a pirate radio station really, only shorter range :-D i think the mini is way overpriced too.

Posted by BOOYAR
I'm not sure about being overpriced. They're worth what people are willing to pay. I admit though, a large portion of the price is down to the fashion factor. And about them being illegal, i don't see why, besides how will they know its only short range. You could tune a k700 into it via the radio. Then listen through your phone knowing if someone rings you will here it- cool. @missuk, best place to look for cases or skins is ebay

Posted by BOSSHOGG
It's illegal to broadcast anything that can be picked up on a standard radio in the uk. Same goes for those tv things. Only ones that aren't illegal are ones that have a reciever that plugs into the output device, they operate on licensed frequencies.

Posted by BOOYAR
Oh well i'll be getting one anyway can't see how any1 will know

Posted by Miss UK
So iTrip wont be available cos its illegal here thats gay lol .. Does any otha places stock cases? I want a propa case :-o
