K700: changing functions for the menu key?

In my new K700, Vodafone has changed the function for the right menu key to go to their WAP-site, instead of the menu where you can activate IR/bluetooth and so on. This is really stupid, since there already is an "online" button on the right side of the phone.

Obviously this can be changed since Vodafone did it. How do change it back, so that the right menu key to display the "More" menu instead of Vodafone's site?

Welcome to Esato.
Unfortunately u have made a huge mistake by buying a SE from Vodafone. They truely ruin the phones!!
U cannot change that button back nor can u put the menus icons back to their correct positions! Also Voda have prevented your nice new phone from using MP3s as ringtones!!
utterly disgraceful isn't it!

Anyway the only way to fix these problems is to get non-branded firmware put on the phone, which is not allowed. Maybe u can still go back to the shop & cancel the deal but if not at least learn NEVER to buy a Voda branded ever again!

well go to the carphone warhouse and get an orange/o2 etc contract fone and the fone u get it an SE box original which is not set to any network and has no vodafone crap on it

Posted by MikLSP
O2 one will always be in boxes & unlocked etc. but I think the ones for Orange will soon be branded. It's often the case that u can get unbranded ones before the network mess about with them.
Indeed some people got unbranded phones on a Vodaphone tariff at first but now they are ruined!

Hey... i have just received the K700i as an upgrade on Orange... I have to say that they have also taken the 'more' button away and it's damned annoying! It's got the camera button on there instead and why? I haven't a clue because it has a damned camera button on the side?! Why double up? What? We're so stupid that we need reminding that there is a camera on my phone!!!!! Grrrrrr! then I went into my icon screen and found that taken the shortcut menu away from the top left!? And replaced it with Orange downloads! Right next to the icon for Orange WAP!? to say that they have just ruined a brilliant phone is an understatement! I am so miffed it's untrue! Is there anything... ANYTHING I can do about the changing the icon on there!? I would be very happy with telling orange that they suck! I would really appreciate some help here... Changing to my line 2 on this phone is like trying to navigate the titanic in an iceberg convention!

I spoke to a company that works with unbrandning of phones. The only way to get rid of the branding (the "more" button, the menus, the icons) is to unbrand the phone - which basically means you put in the original operating system. What also happens when you unbrand the phone, is that the sim-lock (which makes the phone only work with the branding operators sim-modules) is disabled.

When you buy a branded Vodafone Live!-mobile in Sweden, it says that "it's forbidden to remove the sim-lock". The interesting thing is that it says "forbidden" and not "illegal". Probably because it isn't illegal. And then Vodafone forbids it, but since they did a really stupid modification of the operating system, I don't really care.

I'd like to find the person who came up with the stupid "taking away the more-key and replace it with an online- or cam-key", rip off his/her leg and beat them to death with it. Just like Dogbert.

why do your networks like messing with the phones' firmware?

Here in the Philippines they used to attach logos but not anymore. and I've never of a network that messed with the firmware.

'sall about the benjamins dawg.

consider that when a Vodafone UK customer presses the "Live!" button they have access to thousands of ringtones (about £2.50 each) and hundreds of games (about £5 each)...if a network can make this really easy to access then the customer is more likely to use this service therefore earn Vodafone stacks of cash so they can pay the British goverment the £6bil odd that they were charged for 3G licences!!

simple!

and besides, O2 do brand some of their phones, take a look at an XDAII for example, loads of software branding on that.

Another stupid thing about Vodafone, is that they advertse so damn much for their Live-crap, and if you compare with other operators (here in Sweden anyway) they are daaamn expennsive on GPRS. It costs about 10x more than on Telia or Comviq. Now THAT is sick!

Never Vodafone for me.

Hi all,

I am in love with this phone since I bought it 2 days ago, but not as much as I would like to be, due to the fooking the vodafone tampering.

I got my phone as a free upgrade from vodafone, so I could not care less about the warranty. Can you guys let me know where in London/UK I can find people to do the unbranding / reinstalling of SE's untampered firmware?

Alternatively, I can try to sell it on ebay and buy an untampered one. But that seems quite a bit of hassle.

Which route should I go down?

Also, please tell everyone to write to / call vodafone and complain about their fooked up marketing strategy.

I had the same problem in the Netherlands with the k700i vodavone customized phone. And the response I got back from them is "..only games, music files and ringtones with DRM (Digital Right Management) can be used.." and I can get them from the vodafone live! sites......do you believe that...it's only for earning money if you'd ask me!!

Luckily the phone company I bought the phone is going to exchange the phone with an unlocked one !! That would be the trick to solve it for now.

Next I will be sending a complaint email that this is not the way to do bussinuss by changing functionality on phones while you buy a phone for it's functionalities.

HI

Anyone know if we can add shortcuts to the 'desktop', like Orange have done on their branded handsets??

All I can see on my O2 K700i is shortcuts for the stick movements.

Cheers

Your Not Wrong! Rarely am son!

Ah, now I thought it was a bit funny having those three little icons on the desktop, as I've seen no mention or sight of them until I got my K700i last Thursday. I must admit though, I've got used to them now and find them quite useful apart from the sodding OrangeWorld one. Sigh.

BUT what I find really annoying, especially as there's reference to it in the Orange manual, is the old SHORTCUT icon from the T610. apparently I should be able to go to SETTINGS and find the EDIT SHORTCUT link in there, but it's blatantly not. Any ideas?

I do find it a lovely phone though. I don't think it's anywhere near as sexy (can a phone be sexy?!?!) as my T610, but I find it a lot smoother to use, and texting is a joy! No more hideous faffing to get to the number I want to send to!

I don't like my Orange icons either though. They clash horribly.

Clara

Yeah I'm not too fussed but I really really really really want the ability to set shortcuts to the left and right movement of the stick.

I have 2 lines and like it has been said above it is a real pain in the ar** to change it. On the T610 I could just hit left and it would change across now I have to go menu - settings - call options - and then change to line 2 etc.

Any one know which carphone warehouse shops will flash me back to the original SE version? (Or any other shops)

I just bought a K700i.. unfortunately it's a vodefone one But I did'nt have the money to buy a telia-one, cause they cost twice as much :-/ I thought it was really cool with email and internet and all, but now that I've seen what the K700 really should look like... I think I made a mistake :'(

I too have an Orange K700i and like others I'm amazed that they have changed the 'More' soft key for a second camera key. Why do we have 2 camera keys? I'll tell you why. According to Orange customer services (who I rang to see if I could change the key) the 'more' key was changed because SE said that that was what their customer feedback had requested. I said that was a load of b******s (not my exact words but the meaning was similar) as SE sell unbranded phones with the original 'more' key and that Orange were the only ones to change it (didn't know about Vodaphone at the time) and she got quite sniffy and said that their staff briefing said it was down to SE and that was that. It's a shame as it spoils what seems to be a pretty tremendous phone (apart from the too short recording time for voice tags). However, as the alternative is to buy an unbranded one whereas mine was a free upgrade, I suppose paying over £200 to save 5 extra clicks to turn off bluetooth is a bit excessive.

The sniffy lady's colleague did come up with one handy tip though and apologies if this has already been mentioned before:

I wanted to increase the ring time before my Orange answerphone cut in as I don't always get to it in time. The way to do it is:

**61*07973100123**XX#'menu'

where XX is a multiple of 5 seconds up to a maximum of 30 and 'menu' is whatever key you use to bring up the menu (the joystick in the case of the K700 and T610). The default for Orange Answerphone is set at 15.

When you do this you get something like 'Divert Activated' but don't worry it just means the time has changed.

Obviously the above only works on an Orange phone although I guess just changing the answer number might make it work on other networks.

Sorry if I'm behind with this one but it helped me.

Cheers,

Mark
