The abbreviation "MIDI" stands for "Musical Instrument Digital Interface" and is a standard for interchange of music between different kind of equipments.
Hopefully someone with genuine knowledge about these things can help you out on this one.

Perfect response, bico. A proper way to use the two terms would be to say "MIDI's are polyphonic".

And the midi format supports up to 32 channels. The mmf format that is commonly used by samsung phones supports 40 channels but this format is rarely used.
