Cooling Off period

Has anyone actually been able to cancel a Vodafone contract, in the UK, using a 14 day cooling off period?

I have just read in their terms & conditions:

you cannot bring the Agreement immediately to an end because you have changed your mind.

I haven't changed my mind, the phone doesnt do what it is meant to do

Cheers
Jonny.

what phone was it?

SE K700i

Vodafone have disabled the MP3 ringtones and also replaced all the menu's with their stuff.

I am going into the shop tomorrow to see what can be done.

I would get in there and become really loud, so they know how pissed off customers get, when you screw with their SE phones.

What I don't understand is why Vodafone can't see how much business they are probably losing because of all this Vodafone Live crap.

I for one would never move to Vodafone just because of this reason.

I find it very weird they can't see this...

I am quite happy to have a Vodafone contract, if they were to swap the handset with an unbranded one.

I have heard on here that VF do stock unbranded ones, but I will find out tomorrow

If not then i will say I want to cancel as they are not providing me with the level of service I require

It is a joke how the screw around with phones, i thought O2 was bad fir changing 1 icon in the menu, but that i can live with. But changin the whole menu and disabling mp3's takes the p*ss. The MP3's are one of the main features in the phone.

Exactly

Which is what I will be shouting about tomorrow in the shop

good good, alot of noise always helps if it is a busy shop

P.S where about in oxfordshire are you from?

If the shop wont do anything then have a look around for a cheaper contract that offers the same as voda and complain about pricing etc. They have to cancel it

Banbury. you?

Posted by buckle247
lol banbury, maybe i should come down and watch. Is the vodaphone shop still opposite the market square, or has it moved now?

Posted by Loaded
Nah, Its now in the new Castle Quay shopping centre.

Posted by buckle247
don't have a clue where then as there are so many phone shops in the centre now.

I read somewhere else though that the unbranded phones are more expensive and vodaphone will charge extra if you want one. Which is totally unfair, if there phone doesn't work in line with what the manufacture has made.

Its like ferrari making a car, then their dealer removing the engine and replacing it with one from a 50cc moped. It is ridiculas.

Yep, you are spot on.

The way i see it is if the phone doesnt do what it is capable of doing, then I want one that can or I cancel

I dare say they will have some clause to wriggle out of me cancelling

Posted by buckle247
how long have you had the phone, as i think 02 have some sort of 30 day policy, where if you aren't happy you can cancel. Maybe vodaphone will have the same thing, other wise just make a huge fuss, and if that doesn't work pay the difference for and unbranded one (worst case senario)

Manipulation is a key asset in a sales persons daily work. Just don't agree with them

I only got the phone last Thursday, so 3 working days

You in Banbury then buckle?

I think buying a phone thinking it will be able to do all the manufacturer has built it to do, is not unreasonable.

Voda does stock unbranded phones and they would usually rather give you a new clean phone than lose your contract (which is what in the end they make their money from)

Be friendly but firm and do not leave the store without an unbranded phone

Why do they do this crappy branding anyway? It causes more grief than one has joy over each phone purchase

They brand their phone because they know 9 out of 10 customers are docile, and only buy phones on how they look, not what they can do.

Every Vodaphone customer i know personally (well all but one) are style conscious fools who dont really care about things such as MP3 ringtones, or a nice interface, they just buy Vodaphone phones because of their style factor. Usually its the Sharp phones..

Thats why Vodaphone wont listen to that 1 out of every 10.

Like i said in the other thread, my mate has a P900 on Vodaphone, and its very very bad, and very heavily branded. Its ruined the phone.

Well, to put an end to my saga, I went into the VF shop today and questioned them about the MP3 ringtone problem and they said that there is no way around it, as they do not sell unbranded phones.

So I cancelled my contract, using the 14 day cooling off period rule

I walked up the shopping centre to the Orange shop and asked about upgrading my original Ericsson t68i to the K700i and they upgraded me for free Well £49.99 for the K700i and a £49.99 refund for the t68i

The Orange K700i has very little Orange branding and the front buttons are back to SE defaults "Calls" & "Camera"

Also, it allows me to set MP3's as ringtones WOOHOO! result.

I am well happy now All sorted.

As has been stated previously the reason the networks brand phones is because most people don't care, and the reason most people don't care is that they don't know any different. The average chap on the street who is looking to buy a new mobile phone couldn't care less if the camera is 1 MP or 1.3 MP, or what version the firmware is, etc As was said previously, most people are simply looking for a phone that looks nice and has some swish features.
If people were educated a little more on mobile phones then perhaps we could force the networks to stop branding phones and simply sell them as the manufacturers intended. Of course some networks are worse than others when it comes to branding, but the point is still the same, most of the network added features are useless. Unfortunately until enough people start complaining about this policy it will never be changed.
