Pop3 problem with o2 gprs

Ive got an ordinary o2 sim with no credit on i can still get on wap and web with my p900 but when i use pop3 i get activation rejectd why can i still use gprs but not pop3 any ideas

just a guess...email client is apn dependent & here in PH you can surf wapsites for free but we are charged when we access Pop3

The phone is using a proxy(free). The email client isn't(not free), don't think it can either.
