Start windows with help of bootable cd
Posted by astvilla99
And i tried booting from the cd and choosing safe mode and all the options and it still doesnt work

sounds like what happened to me a few weeks ago:
whenever i tried to boot windows xp, is said the was a problem with the file called "lsass.exe" which is a very important memory administration process, if im not mistaken.
When i tried to boot in safe mode, i went to system restore, and it didnt find any of the restore points!
i know there were loads of them, but at the time it didnt find them.
So i ended up transfering all important files from the main HDD to the auxiliary one that i just use for storing, then formatting and reinstalling windows.
now everthing works fine

Which recommends you boot from your windows CD and choose repair

Before trying auto repair, try restoring in safe mode (press F8 during boot)

If you boot from your windows CD, dont press f8 or anything, just press any key, when it says "Press any key to boot from CD..."
The screen will go blue, and windows will go load all teh relevant drivers and what not for a windows install.
There is a repair thing later on in this process.

Do i press any key at the same place where i would press f8 coz the boot from cd message is fast and i tried hitting lots of keys and it didnt work

The "Press any key to boot from CD..." message that the Windows CD loads to the screen stays for about 5 seconds before it goes, so you'd have plenty of time to press something. If it's that quick then I'd suggest it's your computer trying to boot from a CD, not finding one and then using the next option, probably the hard drive.
If you've got more than one CD drive, try using the other, or press F8 while your computer is memory checking at the beginning of the startup sequence. Some modern motherboards allow you to choose which device to boot from from a list that comes up before the loading sequence starts
System Restore annoys me - it's a good idea in principle, but 1) it uses far too much disc space by default, 2) it saves viruses and corrupt files to its backups because it doesn't bother to check them and 3) when you actually need to restore from it, it never works. It's about time Microsoft developed an operating system that isn't affected by viruses (a bit like Linux

Ok i tried f8 during the memory thing and nothing happened and i tried putting the cd im my other drive and still nothing i put 1st 2nd and 3rd boot options as boot from cdrom
Posted by astvilla99
Maybe its my bios settings can anyone tell me what i have to change
Posted by folling182
if its a bios option u must make sure that the cd drive is activated as a boot drive
(i cant guide u though that because there are a lot of diferent bios sistems, so u will have to find it urself)
Posted by Jezzaj
post up yoor bios and maybe someone can be more specific
Posted by astvilla99

If you say you have boot from cd on then there must be problem wit your cd rom
Posted by astvilla99
My cd rom is working fine all i have to do is change the 1st boot device to cdrom isnt it
Posted by Ayush
Yeah but you say you've done that
Posted by astvilla99
Yes i did that so i think im gonna have to format damn im gonna lose some important files that cant fit on a floppy disk
Posted by folling182
if they are really that important get another HDD, plug it in, go in to safe mode, and transfer the files (thats what i did, but i already had the 2nd HDD)
otherwise do the same but transferring them to cds
