how do i set gprs to always on?
Posted by masseur
on the T and Z series you cannot, unfortunately. As soon as you finish what you are doing and return to the menus the GPRS session is ended.
On the P900 go to control panel, connections, internet accounts, other, GPRS timeout and set it to never
its probably the same on P800 but I cannot remember
so, it depends on what phone you are asking for?

Go to connect, data preferences, select gprs and gsm. (This uses more power)

@ayush, I've never really understood what doing that does because you can use GPRS even when it is GSM only.
I could be wrong but I got the impression that @Spyn-Psycle was asking about keeping a GPRS session alive. perhaps he/she can confirm what he/she meant

He means methinks that how he can keep gprs constantly on instead of connecting everytime.

When you set it to GSM only, you lose the little blue triangle above your reception bars. But you can still use GPRS and the triangle appears when you try to connect to the internet.
I presume setting it to GSM only means the phone only looks for a GPRS network when it is needed, instead of continually looking for it.

True. To keep it constantly on follow this on t series and z series phones. GO to connect -> data comm.-> pref service-> GPRS and GSM. In such a case you would be alwaya hooked on to the GPRS network but on the cost of your battery.

help yourself and tell us what phone you have and what exactly you want. the answers already given should answer the two possibilities of the original question asked

Sounds to me like he wants to be able to exit WAP and remain connected to GPRS. Unfortunately, the only T series I know that allows this is a t68i. Any other disconnects as you exit.
But on the t300 if you held No to disconnect, the quuickly pressed No again as it went to the front screen, it asked if you want to remain connected. Pressing Yes never seemed to work though.
One suggestion I have is to make sure you have your pop3 email set up and using the same GPRS data account as your wap browser. Set the account to download headers only, send yourself an email, then click send and recieve to check eamil, your email header should be there.
Click it and it'll connect and download/open the email. Now when you hold No to exit email, it should say 'Remain Connected?' Press Yes and you will still be on GPRS but able to use your phone as normal. Then when you go to wap it's already connected. This works on my t300.

The advantages of constant connection are obvious, but are there any disadvantages other than battery life? And how much does it effect battery life? Also can you still make/recieve calls and sms? I'm usin a nokia if it makes a difference... Cheers.

It saves u the bother of waitin 4 it 2 connect and disconnect. But it only takes bout 1-2 secs. So yea it doesnt bother me.

With a constant connection it saves you having to connect each time. This is useful if you are constantly on and off wap.
