z600 data cable problems,help please.

sorry,might sound like a daft question but i'm new to this.
just got a z600 and a usb data cable,only trouble is when i try using the sony ericsson software that came with the phone it's not detecting a phone.
i've enabled the com port,and changed a few settings but to no avail.
any help would be very much appreciated.

have you installed the drivers from the CD that came with the cable? it may be that windows doesn't recognise the cable without the drivers installed.

in case you´ve installed the CD Drivers and all necessary, reserve a COM Port just to the USC Cable! You can do that with the Phone Settings Aplication from SE on the Control Panel!!
I had several problems and now i reserved Com3 to USB Cable, and all works fine!!
