Why are pictures upgraded when you send them throgh mms

I tried sending an mms with a pic to myself . When the picture came back with more resolution . The pic also took up more memory than the one taken with the camera:-l

Same happens to me. Pics from cam at max res take up to 25kb. But pics from wap stated to be 10kb take up 20. Not know why is that:-(

some mms gateways actually change the picture type. Our gateway coverts jpg to gif files etc depending on the handset it is being sent to!
