"NT" Error Microsoft XP - Esato archive

I had this error come up on me last year, and fixed it, but I can't remember how! My friend has it now, anybody know where to find the steps to fix it. It is so annoying! He gets on the internet, the message pops up. and he sits there hopeless. And what causes it?
