I'm sure this has been asked by many a person but anyway,
WHY does the post counter only show >500 and not carry on. I know the count continues & can be seen in profiles but why not normally?
Maybe even just change up every extra 100posts so like >600 >700 etc.

I never said it particularly mattered, at least not really to my own count but the counter is useful to get a rough idea of the reliability of people who reply. There's a great deal more experience in someone like masseur with over 7000 posts than just some1 with 501!
Anyway I'm not tryin start a discussion on why it's useful, I was just curious as to why it stops & why 500?

and I don't think I have more experience than alot of sub 500 post people. Indeed I learn stuff here every day pretty much like I did the day I joined. I guess I just post more, mostly regurgitating stuff or giving links.
I did learn something here though, I had no idea my post count was 7000+, last time I looked was when we discussed the apparant 9999 limit on avatars as displayed here and how quickly some of us might reach that.
as for the display next to each post stopping at 500, I always assumed it was an arbitrary amount at which point it really didn't matter any more (assuming it mattered at sub 500). I'm sure there is no technical reason for it to just say >500

btw, 7000 posts is one thing but I just noticed that equates to 1.06% of total posts. so 1 in 106 posts is mine.
perhaps I should learn to shut up a bit!

Just one more thing on the subject of post counts; Keep in mind that posting in the three Regional-, Garbage- and Mobile free zone forums does nothing to your post count at all. I someone only psted there their "counter" would stay on zero all the time.

It doesn't really matter, but I think it would be nice to see the actual number of posts in the member information area to the left of each post. At least it wouldn't hurt.
Anyway, as you can always find any public information about a poster by just selecting the profile-icon in the utility-area at the bottom of each post, the information is conveniently available.

@Bico It did hurt back then; members were racing each other to get to the top of the list of posters. They made dedicated topics for this and spamed the whole forum for one reason only. That is why Laffen set the limit to 500.

@tranquil - about posting in regional etc. Your not right. My girlfriend is posting ONLY! in our Regional forum and has 100 which is equal to her posting, and still rising. I've got a bit more than 100 and posting everywhere and my counter goes down everyday. So?

I vaguely recall laffen telling me that if you ONLY post in a non counting forum then the post count is not reduced but also that the first post in a counting forum would cause the loss of those non counting posts during the next overnight processing that deals with this

Sound strange. She will never post in another thread. For sure. Sou she will reach 500 in let's say 3 months and what happens than? It's the best way how to reach it. To post in own thread, get 500 and than start posting everywhere. Hm... And she will look experienced ;-)

Somebody must have wanted to make ppl post... So there was always danger of overposting intentions... But I still donīt understand WHY is it counting, when it hasnīt to... Whatīs the purpose? Or just mistake in MATRIX?
