Dan, you tried it already? I think it's because we're coming from the P-series, that's why we notice the lag.

I've lost my 'thumb skills' already since I'm used to the P800 already, so the K700 demo was only a couple of letter behind me on either T9 or multitap. You'd still have to remember what you're typing though since the phone doesn't respond fast enough.

I do agree that the liquid black T630 looks better.

Dan... do you think the T610/630 over-all response time is faster than the current K700 demo?

Posted by Skrue
@jplacson - here 2 back u up aswell, i did see pics of the fashion show at glorietta, though i believed u from d 1st post...

Posted by 619
t610 over-all respond is faster... havent touched a t630 yet.

hope the post production unit's interface will be lot faster..

Spawn, the great Ericsson/SE lag has been there since 1999 with the T28s!!!! It's present in ALL Ericsson/SE phones since then except for the PDA family members... R380, P800/900

The T39 and R520 ALMOST got rid of it... and the T68i hid it pretty well... but it seems to be coming back. :s

Yes, I agree that the lag isn't really in issue with most people. It just annoys me that they haven't even tried to get rid of it since 1999.

I'll probably never go back to a traditional smartphone anymore, I've found happiness in their hybrids. Hehehehe... but that's just me... and even with the P-series, there's ALWAYS room for improvement!

don't forget the T66/T600. that's one SE phone w/c hardly lagged.

Keyword being hardly. But yes, I agree that the T66/600 was pretty good. But it was B&W.... this is how the T28 should've performed.

If SE could've crammed the T68i into the T600, that would've made a killer phone last year.

what's the official model? i saw in mobile burn to be K700i or is it just K700?

Posted by triggerbokie
ilang megapixels ang camera?

Posted by jplacson
vga... 640x480. video up to 192x144 I think. But the phone has a built in camera light (it's not a flash since you can leave it on to use with video as well)

I've been waiting for this phone since April. Been wanting to find a replacement to my N6600- which was a total nightmare (not the phone really, i bought it at E-PHONE, CYBERZONE, SM CITY). Bygones be bygones, I'm shifting to Sony Ericsson! As you can see, I'm an SE convert, although I'm really anxious about what you guys are saying about the phone's negativities...I believe it's still worth the try, right SE users?

off topic: ei triggerbokie...looks like we came from the same school..

alternateve... of course it's worth a try. When SE users like me complain about certain things, it's really just nit-picking already.

my complaints are coming from the P-series Communicator line of SE which has a lot more functionality and power compared to SE's 'phones'.

the K700 has all the functionality of the N6600 (sans the memory expansion slot) ... without the bulk of the phone.

not to mention that the K700 looks much better, as both a phone, and a camera.

you have to understand that SE users are a lot more demanding than most people. we don't want something that's just a little bit better than the rest... we want something James Bond would use... oh wait... he does use Ericsson/SE!

Any updates on when it coming to our shores here in PH?

Posted by friedbrains
the famous, errr... hated SE screen lag or OS lag, i suspect, is due to the "The Theme", one of the things that i like on SE.... remove the "theme" thing and i am sure the whole OS speeds up, even the t68.... just my .02....

but alas! how can you remove one of the stuff that draws people to you?? remove it and SE will definitely loose followers, keep it up and sooner or later, if people get annoyed by the lag, you loose them too... catch 22

but why cant SE ask nvdia or ati to help them speed up things???

Posted by ynohtna
how about adding just like casio's 3.2 megapixel camera and a 1 gb memory either RC-MMC or CF!!!!! (wishful thinking).

going back to the thread, let us just respect jp lacsons's initial impressions and the other 3 foreign reviews and hope that by May or June 2004 when it is released, all the initial bugs and lags are removed by then. At Php 24,000.00 definitely its target prey is the nokia 6230. Ive played with n6230 at the hub and i am not totally impressed (screen size, video clips quality,design.... ho hum just another boring unit from the big N).
If SE is non existent, I would chose the Motorola MPx or their Vseries(V80,V500,etc.) to Nokia.

On second thought, Php 24,000 (K700) vs. Php 19,000 - 23,000 (2nd hand or brand new) SE P800.....now i am having problems which model to buy.

semicon sm north says june pa daw lalabas ang k700.... antagal!

Posted by trina
when n where is the k700 going to be available for sale exactly?! i've been reading reviews from mobile burn and other sites since april and i want one!

jplacson wrote the worst review on k700 out of all the others i've read before. i saw some pixes in the papers when se philippines launched it, but they didn't really market it well. and no one was really raving aboutit after the show. in fact, it came out in the papers a week later and they only showed pictures of the back of the cel and focused mostly on the models holding it. there really wasn't emphasis or hype on the product.

i was actually more intrigued with the nokia7610 and decided to compare that phone w sek700 and other new models coming out. i was surprised that the reaction in europe and usa was sek700 /se s700 n z series came out as winners as opposed to the comparable nokia 7610 n other new phones coming out in q2.

anywho, the ones i've read applauding se were reviewers in europe and usa. thus, i wonder if the k700 jpl reviewed was manufactured elsewhere and not in the same place as the others? could it be that se philippines was showing low-qual preprod test products, whilst the others tested more advanced versions? i know some ppl who have the same unit model but encounter problems due to varying production dates and manufacturer sources. (for nokia users you can check your version by pressing *#0000#)

anyway, with regards to lag time and stuff, you can actually increase the ram of your cel to make it faster. my friends used to upgrade their super slow 7610's to make it faster. this practice is more common in europe than PI though (and honestly, asian-made phones are much slower and thus cheaper). i dunno where you can get this done. try semicon.

Posted by DarkWolfX
@trina
Hi trina, and welcome to esato .
You can really increase the phone's ram? Wow never heard of that, how can you exactly do that?

Posted by Skrue
@trina - the k700 isnt out yet, thus the reason for not marketing it(yet). i suppose those pics were used as teasers. i trust jplacson with his review, they are just prototypes...having buggy softwares n all...thus wat he reviewed

Apparently its starting to look like a simultaneous wouldwide release.

Posted by triggerbokie
hay naku... antayin muna natin baka may bugs na naman yan... that means around 3 months....

Posted by jplacson
Actually, the Phil is one of the first countries to get new SE models.

Understand that my nit-picking the K700 is more like a Ferrari owner saying that the Maranelo isn't as good as the Enzo.

I'm coming from the Smartphone line-up... neither of the P-series have any type of lag at all...unless you're running the Appforge crap... or running 3 apps simultaneously.

Like I said, P-series users might be disappointed with the K700. That's cuz we're eagerly waiting the next Smartphone release.

T610/T630 users should find the additional features (built-in flashlight, video cam, and full VGA camera) a big upgrade over their existing functions.

...I'm still waiting for SE's 'surprise' P900 replacement which is due around June/July... (wishful thinking)

Posted by runab0ut
SE's .ph's call center operator emailed me that the k700 will be out on the 2nd week of June.

Posted by swipe108
did you happen to ask about the s700?

Posted by runab0ut
yep i did... they did say that it'll be out here in the ph in the 4th quarter.

But retail prices for both phones are still nil.

probably, i'll get the k700 and switch to the s700 when it's waaaaay cheaper!

Posted by trina
heard it's out in greenhills, but is ghills a reliable place to buy phones? i'm so wary... what's the best place i can get k700?

Posted by 2sxy4u
Guys, guys.... remember that we're talking about a phone here... You can't please everybody, but you can please me anytime with a phone

Your reviews are greatly appreciated, we wouldn't know what phone to get without them.

So there! No matter what phone you're getting, as long as it's a , you'll never go wrong.

Posted by triggerbokie
meron ngang nagbebebnta ng k700 sa greenhills near Smart... pero ayaw ipakita sa aking nung babae unless bibilhin ko daw kasi di daw pwede ipakita sabi ng supplier... ridiculous!

Posted by rhap78
Im a Gen-X music junkie, and 32 MB of Music is not enuf for me, I'd go for Motorola's E398, suits me very well...just a thought.

Posted by rhap78
...until the s700 comes out.

Posted by jplacson
The K700 has been out in the gray markets for a while now... P28,000. For that price with no warranty... no thanks. I'd gladly wait for Semicon to get it.

Posted by migzz
I got my K700i 2 days ago from semicon for P24,000... all i can say is wow! i dont have the lag issues and the current bugs that was stated in the review.

Posted by trina
no way! i got mine 2days ago as well in semicon for 25,500! in podium! where did you get yours? and why cheaper?! it's cool.. bigger than i expected but it's quite sleek and clear...

my only problem is when i was changing numbers in my address book, i had difficulty changing the cel numbers from home to mobile coz i had to input the data and delete using c button for every digit. is there a faster way to do this? i switched phones from nokia to t610 to nokia and now k700 so i just use the impt numbers in my sim and the numbers get all fxcked up when you transfer it. i dunno if it'll work using a pc suite, coz i dunno if it's compatible and i never reallly tried. still unlike nokia, it's a hassle to switch the number from home/mobile/work/other/fax wo actually deleting and re-writing the number. if there's a qucik way, pls let me know!

another sucky thing is i think it says somewhere in the handbook you have to turn the cel off when charging. i hope i misread it. someone pls enlighten me.

Posted by GOwin
@tria
try to press and hold the "C"lear button to remove the entry.

turn off the phone while charging? are you sure about that? i'm sure there's no harm charging it while it's off, but when it's on it would do "smart charging" instead

[ This Message was edited by: GOwin on 2004-07-05 04:50 ]

Posted by jplacson
No, I think the manual meant that the phone charges faster if you turn it off... There shouldn't be any issues with charging while the phone is on.

Well, I have to try the 'final release' version of the K700 to see if the lag issues I experienced during the launch are really gone.

Posted by swipe108
I tried it at the hub and I didn't notice any lag. it seemed instantaneous to me.

Posted by agu
got my K700i on Friday and I've noticed an irregularity with the battery. Seems that the indicator is not calibrated OR it just gobbles up the juice right away.

charged it friday night and by saturday noon it was in the red. later in the afternoon it did go up a bit (around 1/3, but still red). charged it during the afternoon and saturday night it was alright. had to charge it again sunday morning.

heard (third hand info) from an SE insider and he said there will be an update to resolve this soon.

overall i am impressed with the phone- to think i've been an SE user since the R320 days.

Posted by migzz
this is the third time i charge my fone... so far the battery is getting better... it lasted for 2 days in normal use. i got mine cheaper coz i got a dealer discount.

Posted by trina
thanks for the tips!

another thing though, is it just me or is the volume low when youmake/receive calls? coz it's like that for all numbers whether globe/smart/local and it's not like that w my other phones. i can barely hear the person (kinda reminiscent of idd w/o timelag) but other than that, i have no qualms whatsoever... no lags or anything.

Posted by ex_crusader
@ trina

SE phones have cut, copy and paste functions. thats make it easy for you to change the number from mobile to home to work back to mobile etc. you can also highlight your text messages, copy it, paste it, whatever you want.

Posted by runab0ut
I'm using mine for almost two weeks now...

gripes: just that 2 key... sticking in, mejo lahat ata ng k700 ganon eh.

battery - a couple of charges pa to maximize the batt. With your usual use of your k700, gano katagal bago i-charge nyo ulet?

la na! one of the best phones i've bought.

* * *

Guys/gals, question... Smart/Addict mobile users:

May i know your GPRS/MMS profile settings? i have trouble sending MMS messages eh. I just want to verify if my settings are correct.

(*888's doesn't help me this time around, no ones answering and if they do... wierd ang suggestions eh. I've used SE website's (thru SMS) settings eh, still no go.)

Thanks.

I'm eyeing the K700i as a replacement for my N6510. Is it possible to use wav or mp3 audio files as ring tones or message alert tones in the k700i?

@alv8

Ringtones - yes
