In Greater Toronto Area, Fido offers better GSM service on T68 than Rogers AT&T.

I had reception problems (call drops, poor sound quality, missing phone calls, etc.) with Roger AT&T wireless network. I had to make three support calls before to have my T68 set up for wap and few of their customer supports were not very friendly on the phone.

On Fido wireless network, I get cystal clear sound quality, excellent on-line and i.Fido services and technical support. And NO CONTRACT have to be signed!!!

(You may have to pay $200 to cancel your service with Rogers AT&T even if you are not satisfy with their service - read the fine prints on the back of the invoice.)

Hi there!
I totally agree. Even though we try to sell more Rogers on my store(more bonus for us) I still recommend fido.
How do you set up Gprs for the T68i???
They set me up with GPRS once then it didn't work so they change the option to Wap on GPRS but still didn't work
the setting they gave me:
APN: wap.fido.ca
205.150.11.11
pass:fido
log: fido
Any clue???
Jason

Your IP address is wrong, at least, it is not the same as mine. Ask Fido's customer support for the correct one.

Also make sure you have subscribed to a Fido GPRS subscription plan (e.g. pay-per-use, or any other monthly payment). GPRS Internet access is an optional add-on to your monthly plan.

I am on Rogers AT&T and i am happy bcs i get service all over the areas i need.

My settings are
APN= wap.fido.ca
IP is 205.151.11.11 OR 195.58.110.201

Both these attempts send bytes but never recieve???

what the f***?

Can whoever has GPRS settings that work forward them to me? FIDO hasn't been succesfull.

My gsm dialup worked until yesterday. One rep told me that you could only use a gprs APN with a laptop and phone??? All i want to do is use wap via my phone--GPRS style.

Pass those settings over! cquine@sympatico.ca

@cquine: How did you get it to work? Please share the GPRS setting you used. I'm sending my other t68i to my brother-in-law in Calgary,AB. His provider is also Fido. Thanks in advance.

Fido no contract not bad cant beat that.
I personally figure that Rogers AT&T offers the best coverage coast to coast in Canada with GSM/GPRS. I actually help test the network for Rogers in Toronto and the GTA last August to Nov.1/01. I do remember the launch date of Nov.1/01 and the problems with the network registering MyMobileHomepage for WAP on the Motorola T193's (actually the first batch was really bad from Motorola--only 2 hours talk time).

Well Rogers AT&T Wireless now offers 93% GPRS/GSM coverage of the Canadian population--winner Rogers. Fido offers the cheapest GPRS rates worldwide --winner Fido. Fido is hurting for coverage that they cannot afford to loose, they rent cellsite time from Rogers in Canada, and financially, Microcell communications may not last another 4-5 years, they've been cash strapped for a while now and are lucky to get a new loan from their bankers.

Anyway here are the settings, I resent that about bad customer service, I was once a rep there.

To prove it here are the GPRS settings from Donovan S!!!
a.k.a. Prom1

APN goam.com (for WAP) internet.com (for internet using Portageplus)
Primary IP 208.200.067.150
port 9203
Secondary IP 208.200.067.151
port 8582
userID wapuser1
pw wap
homepages www.mymobilehomepage.rogers.com/device.asp
http://upapps.goamerica.net:8582/start.wml
http://goamerica.net:9203/index.wml
the latter 2 websites for WAP are for downloading the security key if the first gives you trouble more than once. You'll also notice the port numbers in them aswell. the IP's might not work with internet.com for actual html/xml websurfing i.e. using your PPC or laptop through the phone as a modem.

gsmt68, and cquine,

as far as I know Fido doesnt sell the T-68i in Toronto that I've been able to see. Where did you purchase yours and for how much??? Was it at Lennox Wireless at yonge&bloor or cellteck at dufferin&lawrence??

Also what are the comparible settings for Fido for true GPRS access??
I remember last years settings and there was a dialup number, though glad they changed.

Rogers doesnt support email downloading/uploading directly from GPRS devices, nor do they support MMS/EMS. does FIDO support any of these?? I want to download my own email not the SMS bullcrap 416*******@fido.ca email but my own sympatico email directly to my T39m/T68i if I can find one cheaper than $800 new. I also dont want to browse to a WAP site to configure my own email address just to download directly to my screen like Rogers garbage "wirelessInbox" on their WAP site!!

Any help please????!!!!!
I need Fido's APN, IP primary/seconday, userID & pw, port numbers for IP, DNS numbers, and alternate homepages!

Thanks and cheers
