EDGE is the only edge of this phone.
Posted by dmb2000uk
And if ur in the UK = no edge! so does that = no gud features!!! Probably not.
(Im an SE fan at heart!!!)
DMB

Tiny screen, stupid menus, EDGE means nothing in Europe - not a phone for me
Posted by juming
Frankly, the camera result far better than any SE, even better than 6600 which better than p900.

the last nokia phone that i had was the nokia 8210, i gave it to my 7 years old nephew, haha! Anyway that was years ago, never been interested with any other nokia models since, until nokia 6230 appear.
i think what interest me with this phone will be the feature such as;
Integrated VGA camera with video
MMC card slot
FM radio
MP3/Video player
se k700 has no card slot, but i shall compare the two phones once they are available in my city, in the mean time i am still enjoying se t630

But edge would be gr8! And has to come out soon. In india It's going to be out soon. I think in may

...Hmmm, really worth considering...

I've actually got to play around with this phone for a few hours. Its not a bad phone. The only major complaint is the screen is too small. Similar in size to my T68, when I upgrade that, the screen *must* be bigger.

ok listen. I'm selling 6230 as hot chickens at the moment. The phone is the best what nokia had until know. It has some nice futures like MP3 as ringtone, full sync and Quickshare. A really good screen, some off the best i have seen until now. easy to use. VGA cam, and it takes really good pics at night.. much better than T630.. More question.. please ask..
Posted by Rui_Costa
Not at all. There's only ONE phone...ERICSSON.
And one more thing. I don't buy a phone because of the camera.
I got a cam
Posted by slamEVIL
i agree with all of the above. screen plays a big issue. not to mention that phone is ugly as hell. and what's up with the center colum of buttons? how come they're wider than the outter colums? typical of nokia.
Posted by lalilulelo
the phone is great but too expensive..
my place here is actuary more expensive than 6600
Posted by gelfen
same here - in fact costs about the same as a P900 (outright)
gee, i wonder which i would choose........?

Se 4ever nokia vs se is a stupid question se always wins :se:

No threat whatsoever, with the K700 soon coming to the market and with the Z1010 approaching, Nokia would be having a tough competition in the coming month.
The Nokia 7200 did not even make a good impact here in the Southeast asian market; and to think i almost wanted to buy one. Luckily i was able to check myself, Now, im just waiting for the asian release of the K7; just hoping that the price would be reasonable enough for a purchase as with all SE phones.

The reason why the 6230 is good selling is that no K700 is selling.
And just like always, people are not clever if he/she buy a Nokia.
When the K700 arrived you will see that the 6230 selling bad and the K700 good just like the 7250 VS T610.
The screen is pitty and the MP3 is poor quality if you compare with the P900.Don't say that the P900 is a another segment but MP3 is just MP3.
The interface is so boring after few weeks you wil boring with the 6230.And this crap has no theme's......................Pitty.
SE for ever and Nokia go down.
Posted by jrmi
Boy, do i love THEMES.
NO other way to express one's self but thru themes.
SE has it, I dont know why Nokia or any other phone brand has it.
Just seeing the many themes people created is just great.
Posted by mmsman
Actually this phone is far better than t6** , at least in my opinion, the buttons are great, the screen is also nice (yeah sure a little small but still...) and the mmc feature is just awesome in a such small phone (though it's a pain in the arse to replace it)
anyway if you are considering a small non-symbian phone this is surely one of the best there is......
Posted by draak1
MMS wait for a new Txxx series, than you will shooce who is the best.

Fear is a feeling of an unknown or undiscovered thing. But we all here know what a nokia means...
Posted by mmsman
@draak: yeah no doubt that the next t*** will be better, but hey considering all the rumours a 6230 with wcdma support and probably a better screen will be also out in this year so......
anyway you can't compare phones that are out already with rumours.....
i just said that 6230 is probably the best "small" non symbian phone out on the market..
Posted by Blade Runner
Yeap, this is the best phone ever come on market, full feature packed with hi-tech stuff, no SE phone can come with pair with this one, and this all is from die hard fan of SE phones, simply, Nokia created a phone one year ago that produced a hype only matchable with the one T68 created years ago. This little phone is best in it's class I can only imagine what will be in next version
Yesterday I was looking live TV streaming with this phone, although quality of such video is very poor it is simply unbeleivable what modern phones can do and will do in future.
Don't get me wrong, other Nokia phones are ugly and bed as hell but 6230 is realy something else. sorry SE but you missed oportunity to put SD card slot, EDGE and high capacity battery in K700i as well as better MIDI converter (which is awfull compared to T630) to beat this one!

my friend has a 6230 and comparing to the k700, its not that good -
Pros compared to k700-
-Expandable memory
-Slightly Louder speaker (i tried it with the same file)
-EDGE
Cons compared to K700 -
-Camera in k700 is far better
-Sounds(mp3's) in k700 is sharper, no support for .aac audio
-No support for mp4 video, and only amr audio with video
-Smaller screen,no themes
-Series 40 phone !! Not even symbian !
-UI is bad compared to k700 (too complicated just to transfer a file by BT)
-Joystick tends to go in up or side directions when u try to press it
My friend's phone was bought in singapore and with the same usage of mp3, cam, video recording, my k700's battery lasted longer
so overall i'd say the expandable mem is the only advantage
And for some reason most people didnt like the design of the k700 ?!?!! they liked 6600 better

Tiny screen, average functionality...No.
Posted by Marcos
Average functionality, you are funny
Remember this was the most advanced small phone 6 months ago, and it is still consistently rated best buy today.
In fact its so good im worried i wont find a good enough phone to replace it when my contract runs out in may
May go onto windows smartphone next, iMate have just released a C500 clone with better design.

Blade Runner: you dig up this old thread just to tell us that you don't really want more then an mid level nokia.
good for you. but don't waste our time. we like SE cause they are the best.

Afraid? Of a Nokia? The 6230 in particular? Now, this is amusing, seeing I hang around with a P-series device. Thatz like the lion afraid of the dog :) Ha!

Its not a bad little phone, got most things you would want in a phone, but for me the styling is very bad, and the buttons are to close together.
Posted by Residentevil
That 6230 is a pretty sorry piece of equipment. Even the T630 has a better screen. So instead of buying a T630 trade that sorry piece in for it.

I have Ericsson/SE phones for almost a decade so please don't post stupid comments just fact, read my post again.
Only REAL reason against 6230 is average screen, nothing more for a phone I can buy for only 240€ in my country.
But I will never buy it because it is Nokia.

I have to put up with this avatar since there are no nokia avatars (for obvious reasons
Its funny you mention the T630, my friend, a devoted T630 user was very impressed with my 6230, and the screen too, which is said to be the only weak feature. Side by side the 6230 had a sharper and brighter screen with deeper colours. Not to mention a better response time and much faster menus.
I guess its hard for you to take, but as much as i love Sony, the whole ericsson thing lost me after the T610.
Posted by methylated_spirit
The 6230 is poorly designed imho...why go to the bother of making its mmc hot swappable, and then putting it so you have to take the battery out to change it? Nokias design department strike again...

very true meths

I don't like the look of Nokia 6230. I think Nokia always positioned the 6xxx series as business phone so that the design is not in its best comparing to 7xxx which is called as fashion phone by Nokia.
Till now I don't need EDGE (in my country EDGE only provided by one provider and is still limited...)
I'm rarely listening to the Radio (unless I'm driving my own car... and the radio comes from the stereo set in my car, not from the phone...)
I need MP3 for ringtones only (that I got this feature in my SE P900...)
Digital Camera? My SE P900 got VGA Camera and rarely using it. I have Canon Ixus 40 for Digital Camera, with 4 Mega Pixel, Digital & Optical Zoom, very small size with many features (the size is smaller than my SE P900...)
So, what's the worth buying Nokia 6230 for me???
Posted by HyperiaBlue
I think the question to ask is: will the Nokia 62xx be noticed by die hard
fans and whether it makes a difference to our lives! Serioulsy, i don't think
boiz fear this fone...they are too busy being hapy with their
fones! Posted by k4m!k4ze
The joystick of the 6230 is quite temperamental too, keeps wanting to press in the other directions when u try press it straight down
And it looks bad too
Posted by methylated_spirit
Yes i noticed that about the joypad, it likes to do its own thing, and it feels loose, when it should feel tight and solid.
Posted by Marcos
That MMC comment is pretty funny, i mean, who really needs to swap out 512mb of flash so often that turning the phone off becomes hassle? I have 7 CDs on there and im still not tired. I prefer the hidden MMC to a flimsy flap like on most phones with quick removable cards.
The 5 way pad was a bit odd at first but mine never feels loose, and it was a nice change up from the T630 since the pad is actually faster in games, like splinter cell
But the pad is preference, i quickly got used to it and never make an error now.

What are you talking about
The 6230 was a pioneer at its release, first series 40 model and first small phone to have video recording, playback, MP3 support and loudspeaker. Bluetooth, IR and expandable memory.
Of course, its hard for you to see since this 6month old thread has been resurrected at a time when other phones are finally catching up
Posted by methylated_spirit
Thats a vey good point actually, it was advanced for its size at the time. The only real gripe i have against it is the small screen size (im used to pxx with large screens) and the mmc placement...i know what your saying but its still silly imho.
Posted by mib1800
6230 (just like K700) is still a pretty advanced non-smartphone.
i dont think there is any phone that has a mp3/radio/card slot with that size and weight.
personally, i think the 6230 card slot would have an added advantage over one without like the K700.
Posted by kenski
Sorry to dissapoint you, my bro has a 6230 and even he was telling me that the only EDGE it had was the memory slot..nothing more! One thing caught my eye though...the menu looks like abstract!

Couple of questions, when did your brother buy the phone?
Is he aware that it was the first small phone with MP3 playback and video recording?
Sounds like he missed the boat 6 months ago and now he doesnt understand since he joined too late
Posted by ripkord
it looks the same as all the rest of the nokias (except those modert art f**kups they brought out) I really quite like nokia as a manufacturer but god damn, design something a bit different.
lol i just noticed the date of the original thread, lol who dug this up!!
no wonder the phone looks dated
