I've only recently started to use the GPRS on my phone more recently - has anyone got any tips for mobile-based 'surfing'?

Firstly, I'm looking to do it as cheaply as possible - it seems that some ppl here are on their GPRS for hours on end browsing Esato - what are your phone bills like?? Any tips for keeping costs to a minimum would be appreciated - e.g. turning off pictures (which I've already done).

I'm going to probably be doing most of my mobile surfing of this site from my R520 with an Orange (UK) pay as you go sim in it, and also my T610 with an O2-UK contract sim.

Any 'power' tips, or useful little shortcuts? My apologies if there is already a thread similar to this - I couldn't find one using the search though!
Thanks

Disable images, enable cache. use bookmarks for stuff you will acces more often so you don't need to browse many wappages. and try to get a GPRS bundle for cheaper data-charges....I believe O2 GPRS is still free for now

Yeah, that's about it. Don't disconnect if you're only taking a five minutes break; you gotta pay every time you connect.

Thanks for you tips - keep 'em coming!

It sounds like I could actually be better using my O2 contract phone for GPRS stuff - sounds like it's cheaper than my current idea of using my Orange pay as you go phone.

I have unlimited gprs, so maybe some of the providers over there offers it???

O2 is still free but this will end soon..OrangeUK offers 'fairuse' up to 100mb/month..So i would go for orange...here in the Netherland we have real unlimited GPRS on OrangeNL

for usa t-mobile i just pay 4.99 a month and have unlimited gprs.

Posted by Bianca
that's a fair price

Posted by kimcheeboi
i think the 4.99 is for wap.voicestreamnet.com or whatever their site is-my friend who doesnt have the t-zones can still use his gprs for free!

Posted by Bianca
that is even better though i am happy with my 6 euro a month for unlimited gprs

Posted by kimcheeboi
thats about 10 us $ right?

Posted by Bianca
No, it is about 6 us dollar a month

Posted by rencomp
no....6EURO=7.18680 US Dollar

Posted by Bianca
I thought the euro and us dollar are both worth the same (might be outdated info i guess)

@rencomp -
Does this 'unlimited' GPRS that Orange does - is it available for pay as you go or is it contract only? On o2 (my contract phone) you can get 5mb for £8 (approx. $12, or 125mb for £42.55 ($65ish)! Ouch!
It seems that using GPRS in the rest of Europe and the US is a lot cheaper than in the UK - I hope the price will fall to slightly more sensible levels!

thats a while time ago..now a low Dollar agains a strong Euro...this a a currency converter: http://www.oanda.com/convert

@sammy_boy: i can answer that too, it is also available on pay as you go

Am currently browsing from a t610 - it just hung and restarted itself when trying 2 view thread with lots of posts! Is this normal?

Posted by rencomp
Sammy_boy, are you browsing HTML light forum?its not normal but how about the wapforum? i use them both on my t610 and not problems till now...are you having trouble with other sites? and when it restarts you see a blue screen? i had those problems with my first t610 (sw R1C) after many hangs and restarts it died..i got it replaced by a new one (R4C) and no problems at all

I hava as well problems with phone hanging in wap. I learned to always wait for the pages to load compleatly before moving the joystick. In italy I have unlimited wap for 7 euro/month with vodafone. Crappy voda Live makes the phone hang all the time.

Btw, how can I turn off images in wap on T610?

Posted by Sammy_boy
I'm running R3C, and my T610 is the crappy Voda Live! version, except I'm using on O2 sim in it at the moment with no other problems. I think my problem was when it hung, got blue screen, and restarted was that I was pressing buttons before the page had finished loading - probably confused the phone!

@rencomp - how do you know which version it is? I think it's the 'light' version, as I'm using the address at the bottome of the page, the 'mobile.esato.com' address. I've also browsed it using an R520, which seems to be differently laid out - is this that standard 'wap' version then?

btw @gotska, in order to turn images off on a t610, you go to Connectivity> WAP Options> WAP Profiles> hit the 'edit' button on the Wap profile you use (e.g. Vodafone GPRS, Orange GPRS, etc.)> Advanced> Show pictures> off

Hope that helps!

sammy_boy, HTML light forum is mobile.esato.com. The one you use at the moment to go to the wap forum: http://wap.esato.com here you select Forums WML/WAP or go directly to http://wap.esato.com/board/wap
