I was just wondering if anyone managed to get full internet on their laptop using the free o2 gprs and the infrared using the t610 as a modem. I thought I had managed to do this but I can only access http://www.o2.co.uk when i connect. Did anyone find a way to access other sites other than this without paying?

thanks

What settings are you using? I'd like to use my P900 as a GPRS modem. I'm running windows xp.

Go into IE's proxy settings for the connection you use to "dial" the GPRS network and enter the following proxy settings:

193.113.200.195 port 80

Beware though it only allows HTTP port 80 traffic through, no HTTPS or POP3 etc. or even cookies!

Enjoy.

thanks very much-works great! surfing using it now. just wondering is it possible to sign on using msn messenger using this?

No, I don't think so. eMsn works though -
http://www.e-messenger.net/

It's a bit of a poxy proxy, only allowing port 80 traffic through. It means it's very hard to log into webmail etc. because lots of them use HTTPS and even if they don't, they use cookies.

But... can't complain about something for nothing. I suppose.

sorry to drag up a dead topic but ive got a nokia 7210 and wanting to use that has a modemn, what do i do to tell IE to dial through the phone? Such as dial up number user name password etc . . .

Posted by jonat8
It's *99***SID#
e.g. if the SID is 1 then the number is *99***1#
It should say the SID of the GRPS connection somewhere in the phone's connection setup. If unsure then just use *99***1# and see if it works.

Username: If the access point is "payandgo.o2.co.uk" then it's "payandgo". If the access point is "wap.o2.co.uk" then it's "o2wap"

Password: For all access points, it's "password".

Cant you connect to msn messenger or any other messengers through proxy?

Posted by Lynx69
I have got the GPRS working but I have set up a dial-up connection but that just calls 0 on my phone which should be the shortcut to wap but its not, it just dials the 0 and nothing happens. whats wrong?

Posted by Lynx69
I got it working.

I can't get any messengers working through the proxy. Only web-based messengers will work. The possible exception to this is ICQ, which has an option somewhere to allow connection through an HTTP proxy, which is what the O2 Proxy is, but I don't have any friends on ICQ... lol

When i try to connect through my laptop to my gprs, the phone doesn't do anything and i get an error 692 on my laptop, anyone know why? Cheers.

Ok, i got it working on dial up by dialing the number 915000, how can i get it to go via GPRS? I have a T630...is there a special number to dial to start GPRS? Thanks.

EDIT: Fixed, it works great, i also managed to get Bit Torrent working through http proxy, so i can download files on the move hehe.

So how come you cant use msn messenger on the http proxy?

I have found i can't login to certain forums (not tried this one yet) in http pages (not https or through another program like messanger). I am using a FSC loox, with pocket pc 2002.

does using port 8080, as opposed to 80 make a difference?

interested in using bittorrent through a proxy http.
has anyone got any further details.

Also wondered what the top speeds people have got with o2 gprs. I need to get myself a data counter.

I am thinking of gettin and 86.5kbps CF modem. What sort of speeds could i expect from this and does it make a difference if its type I or type II.

Sorry so many questions, but i've only just got these settings going and want to get the most out of it.

Cheers
