Hi,
this is my first post, im happy to join this community! I have a k750i coming unlocked from my friend in the UK. Im not good with the SIM cards and GSM and all that but he said it isnt hard to figure out. basically my problem is as of now i have Verizon which does not use a SIM card, Im sure you know but I just need to clarify it to myself. Does this mean there is no way of using my verizon service on the new phone? If not, does this mean I need to buy a SIM card, and where about can I get one. I'd have to get T-mobile or Cingular I'm told, but I dont;t knwo which is better. Any advice?
Posted by Residentevil
Well the K750i is a triband GSM phone. Only T-mob and Cingular offer GSM service in the states. Personally I am on T-mobile with my triband 900/1800/1900 phone. T-mobile uses 1900 exclusively in the US. 900/1800 are the international GSM frequencies. Cingular uses the 850 band in a mix with 1900. There are spots where only 850 is available and you would be out of luck there. My recommendation is T-mob. Using 1900 band and when you travel you can use the 900/1800 band in the world. BTW I am using a P900.

I'm looking for a P910a....... If any of you are looking to upgrade and are selling your P910a, Let me know. Or trading options as well.

Sorry can't help you there.

I was wondering if anyone has any idea where there is a service center for my phone, here in Los Angeles, I already ordered my 2n1 cable.....but i'd like to know. Haha
Posted by Residentevil
At one point they http://www.globalmob.com/store/home.php had a service center in Lalaland for SE repairs. Give'em a call and ask them what they can do for you.

Actually, as I have checked from GSM Association home page, there are lots of GSM operators in US nowadays. Though, only Cingular (with former AT&T) and T-Mobile are the biggest.
http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_us.shtml
But one new GSM company is spreading its coverage quite fast: Alltel Communications Inc (recently named as Western Wireless Corporation). It is covering mainly the central part of the USA: http://www.gsmworld.com/cgi-bin/ni_map.pl?cc=us&net=wh

@ Aivar
do you happen to have any affiliation with Alltel? I know you’ve already bring this up last November 24 of 2005.

@ Marino
It's nice you remember my post. I just thought it's essential to quote that
information also in here.
I'm pretty sure that Alltel does not know anything about my existence

Cingular and T-mob could really need some good competition.

that looks cool!

Best phone i have had so far..Had it for a week or two SDA that is...Have a 1 gb mini sd in it and i love the thing...Highly recommend
Posted by knight4led
I've not seen the SDA in person. I played with the Cingular 2125 and liked it enough.
I wound up buying a Cingular 8125 off contract though. I love it. Different than my P910a, not as easy to figure some things out. But it does so much more.
Posted by REO
@knight4led
I've been thinking in the Cingular 8125 lately......
My heart is on the W810a.
BTW are you interesyed in selling your P910?
Posted by Residentevil
Have not seen it here at the local tmob shop.

This thread is going slower than Nyquil.
Posted by knight4led
This thread needs a little more excitement. Don't think I'm the one to give it though.
@REO hadn't thought about selling the P910a. Its working, its just showing its age a bit. Its also on its third housing because I painted one and broke one. Right now its a very fancy paper weight and ringtone repository.
Posted by Residentevil
My P900 is still going strong after two years of use and a rocky start, where I had to send it in to SE US (2 times) and wait 3 mo for it to return functional.
Posted by knight4led
they perform better than I expected. I mean other than a little slowdown and a slight slump in reception, my P910a is still working very well. Battery life is still good and whatnot.
I upgraded because the Cingular phone was cheap, quad-band and had faster internet connections (WiFi and Edge). I'm moving to El Salvador soon, so this is gonna have to operate as my computer replacement and telephone, so the P910a didn't seem like the best choice anymore.

I talked recently to a Cingular Sales guy and he said that C is rolling out UMTS here in the States. I am still waiting for that announcement. If that is true I will be switching to cingular in the Fall after I buy My new P990.
Posted by knight4led
There has been discussion of this for quite some time. As far as I know there have been a few UMTS test cities for quite some time now, at least a year. I spotted a few people walking around Berkeley and San Francisco with some SE UMTS phones about 8 months ago.
Posted by scapevlocity
A dealer told me it'd be sometime this summer. Though he also said some cities in Cali already has it in use.

Are you talking about the P990? rduncan here on Esato said "No P990 for the U.S. market?!?
Bad news after visiting the SE booth at CTIA 2006 last week (CTIA is the biggest mobile show in the U.S., covering all mobile technologies, not just GSM): the SE rep there shared his disappointment that the P990 is not coming to the U.S. market, as the major GSM companies have declined to purchase it (start sending cards and letters now!). Although one can purchase a European version of the phone (as many have done before), this will not provide optimal radio performance in the US markets and will lack 3G in the U.S.:
- lacks 850 MHz band widely used by Cingular
(and remember, lower frequencies are better,
delivering better indoor signal)
- lacks U.S. 3G bands
since U.S. does not use the same 2150 MHz 3G bands used in Europe
So, we're left with a choice of purchasing a European version that has improved UI and additional features, but no 3G and poorer radio performance. NOT FOR ME,s adly, as I had made up my mind that this was my next phone, and was holding out for it, as many of you are."
I hope this is not entirely true and 3G works on Cingular.

Hello all...I'm new here . I just wanna know is it true that we can't buy the SIM card only here in the US ? (always bundled with phone , right ?). Well, I still love my K750 (Asian version, unlocked) , and all I need is a new SIM card....
So if I choose T-Mobile, I guess I still can use the SIM card to be used on my K750 phone right ? How about the settings ?
Thanks......

yes, you can use other sim (T-Mobile or Cingular) on your K750. I'm from Asia too (manila) and I use Cingular on my P800. there are some shops that sell pre-paid (or pay-as-you-go, as they call it in the US) sim. I just saw a T-Mobile sim selling for $18 in Chicago. For the settings, you have to read it on their site as it varies from phone to phone
Posted by knight4led
Most contract SIMs in the US come with a phone. However, most of these phones are cheap and not very feature rich. I don't think its possible to pay any less for any contracts here just for passing up the phone. Might as well take it and sell it on Ebay or save it as a backup should something aweful happen.
By the way, happy belated birthday ResidentEvil.

hi everyone..
does anyone know the song by Rod Stewart in which the video shows him following a girl(blondie wearing red dress i think) on foot singing the song while his band of instrument players follow him.
Posted by RayKnight
Hi everyone, i don't know if this had been answer before. One of my freinds is moving to USA and he wants to know if there some operator that he can continue using his W800i? Or if he have to sell it before move there?
Posted by Residentevil
The W800i is a classic triband 900/1800/1900. It will run on t-mobile. They use exclusively 1900.
Or he can upgrade to a W810i 850/900/1800/1900 and go on Cingular. They use the 850/1900 band.
There are other small providers out there, depending where he moves. So there might be other option available, but for national coverage. Those are the only two.

Thanks a lot Resident!!!

That is a random request indeed. That must be a video from before my time. Then again I am not much of a Rod Stewart fan to begin with.

Was probably a song from the eighties
