by the way, do your insiders at Cingular know if the W600a is going to be released by Cingular or if its going to be exclusive to Sony stores?

No, they are exclusively using the 1900 band.

Not me. I will be going to a Judas Priest Concert.

@REO

I use a Z800i on T-Mobile, but roam on Cingular on a certain highway. I notice nothing different other than the carrier being displayed.

I asked my very reliable source @ Cingular but haven't gotten a reply. From what I know, he's testing the following phones:
LG 1500 / 2000
Nokia 6102 / 6682
Samsung X497
HP iPaq w/ GPS

Me too! Tried Cingular but was disgusted by their customer service. Might try Cingular again though if they implement UMTS in Hawaii.

How's the Z800i working on T-Mobile? No problem? How about t-zones settings?

I like what I am hearing about the iPaq and the 6682. I am happy that Cingular seems to attempting to put out plenty of smartphones, especially PDA phones. I am happy to finally see the PDA2k released by Cingular, even if it is really late.

Posted by RichLok
So pretty much, you are happy...

Posted by fone dude
lol
i may end up getting that 6682... i need the 850 band soon and SE does not make any phones i want with 850 at the moment . maybe the K750 (or something similar) will have 850/1900 someday? any new phones coming soon?

Posted by amagab
The W600a and Z520a both have the 850 band, which is most likely a sign that Cingular will carry them.

Posted by knight4led
just because they are North American models doesn't mean Cingular will carry them. The P910a is the perfect example of this.

Posted by fone dude
knight4led,
unbranded would be fine too.

amagab,
but i don't like those phones you listed! i want more features.
it's cool though, there's probably not a market in the US for a K750 or Z800 type phone with 850MHz. i'll just live with something else.
thanx though

@amagab

Love the phone and have had no problems on T-Mobile. I have also seen an increase in reception too; before the Z800i I was using a Z600 and a T68i and still turn them on every now and then just to compare reception. Z800i wins! As to t-zones, I no longer use the service. I had free GPRS for a while and recently changed plans and it is free no more. I used the service more with the Z800 than my previous phones, I think a larger display makes all the difference. If you can get over not being able to use the 3G functions of the phone, its a model worth looking at. Yes, its on the large side for clamshell but all of its features make it seem quite small.

Posted by Residentevil
Unfortunately T-Mobile has no plans with any 3G type service.

Posted by Residentevil
I just came from the T-Mobile Store and the guy said the following: I asked him if they will get any SE phones in. His reply was "No" they had too many problems with the T610. Currently they have 0 SE phones. He also said they won't get the D750 nor any other smart phones in. They do not replace the Nokia 6600 witht the 6680 adn they discontinued the HP 6315 also. Right now they are doing financially good and have the best plans in the business. I told him their phones suck and he agreed. Then I showed him my P900 to make him feel very bad. Also they have EDGE built into their network, but wait to launch it. That is the latest what I heart.

I agree, you can't beat T-Mobiles plans. The same can be said about the Powertel and Voicestream days. I wish TMO would take a leap into the 3G arena though. T-Mobile was known for having some of the best phones in the business despite the limited service areas. Coverage area has improved but the phones no longer set T-Mobile apart from the pack. I understand the economics behind their current decisions and wouldn't be surprised to see a power play by Q4-05 or Q1-06, but it won't be 3G.

Posted by REO
Cingular has the most coverage area, better signal, better towers. The largest mobile to mobile community. When you look at T- Mobiles mobile to mobile coverage map, it is a laugh

It is very minimal. You would have to use your minutes plan, most of the time. There are no rollover minutes. If you don't use them ,you lose them. Not the case with Cingular's rollover minutes.

Take my plan 850 peak minutes / Free Mobile to Mobile / Unlimited free nights and weekends. I use about 400 - 500 minutes a month.

My rollover minutes balance is at 5,800 , which means I don't watch my minutes when I'm on the phone during peak time. I just talk away with out a care. Try that on T-Mobile plans.

Their reception sucks, That's why I dropped them several years ago.

Happy fourth of july to all americans!!

Posted by knight4led
I have to agree with REO about Cingular's overall superiority here. My rollover balance is somewhere around 6,000 as well, and it will last for up to 13 months. I will soon downgrade my plan and begin to eat away at my rollover minutes. Once those are gone, I will bring my plan back up to what I need.

Only way T-Mobile is superior is in data rates, but they are being bitches about SMS fees and don't have the amazing deals on unlimited GPRS anymore. So I suppose they are losing the advantage there too.

Your points are well taken, and I agree with you both about Cingular having a superior overall coverage area, but TMO has significantly improved over the years and has better coverage in my area. As far as rate plans go, TMO has Cingular beat in my case at least. I use 2300-2500 minutes per month not including Mobile 2 Mobile, and use my phone as a modem on a month by month basis. I looked into Cingular but there was just too much uncertainty surrounding the plans with my usage. Plus, the SE phones I buy arent 800mhz so I would be taking another risk using Cingular.

Happy fourth. I will be going to the Judas Priest concert here.

Anyone here own a P910a? Does it have a limitation of characters when synching calendar appointments from outlook?

Posted by rambalu80
I agree with all you guys. The only reason I am with Cingular is the coverage and b/c I am with Cingular, I always carry my T616 as a back up because all of their new towers are supposed to be 850 MHz. I am gonna wait till my contract runs out in a year (hoping TMO will have better coverage by then) & then think of switching to TMO b/c I prefer the non 850 MHz phones & most of the better SE's are non 850 MHz.

I have a P910a and I remember someone asking this question back in the day. I ran a test myself and the answer was yes, it does have a character limit when syncing calendar appointments. But, it was way more characters than I could ever see myself needing or using. The limit was pretty high. As it turns out Outlook has a limit too, its just not a limit anyone will ever reach.

It's about 100 - 150 characters on the S710 if I'm not mistaken. It's ok for personal use. If I synch at work, it's a problem, as some outlook invites are for conference calls and provide detailed agendas of what will be discussed. I'm not able to synch entire messages at times depending on the content.

I could see now, how they would not pick up the D750 or any other SE phones.

@Residentevil

Good scoop!

Saw this on the DT site:

New T-Mobile service web'n'walk lets customers surf the open Internet wherever they are; product goes to market now in Germany and Austria with roll-out in the UK, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic planned for later this year.

T-Mobile brings the Internet to the mobile phone.

June 29, 2005 / Until now, people connecting to the Internet from their mobile phones generally had access to limited content offered by operator's portals such as t-zones or Vodafone Live. That is changing with web'n'walk, explains T-Mobile International CEO René Obermann: "We are giving you the freedom to use the Internet wherever you want to use it. You won't just have a limited selection of WAP pages available on your handset... but all of the Internet."

Customers hooking up to the Web from their phones will find the Internet Explorer icon as well as the Google search engine on their starting page; they can also easily program a list of favorite links just as they do on their home computers. T-Mobile is the first European mobile operator to offer free web access to its customers, says Obermann, who describes mobile multimedia use as a "megatrend": "We are once again solidifying our position as the innovation leader in the mobile sector." Since the Internet first became popular in the USA while the mobile boom started in Europe, Obermann adds that "It is only logical that T-Mobile as the only transatlantic mobile provider brings the two applications together."

Responding to customers' wishes
The introduction of web'n'walk is based on market research which showed that more than 80 percent of those surveyed wanted to have unlimited mobile Internet access, reflecting their home experience. Responding to customers' concerns that using the mobile Internet is expensive, T-Mobile is also launching special tariff volume-based tariff packages, including a flat rate for Sidekick users valid until year's end.

More revenues, more opportunities to connect
Obermann also emphasized that web'n'walk was an important part of T-Mobile's Save for Growth program and that he expected customers who use the mobile Web to generate substantially higher revenues per user (ARPU). While the service will initially only be available from a limited number of handsets, T-Mobile is planning to expand its portfolio of web'n'walk-ready phones in the coming months. Chief Marketing Officer Ulli Gritzuhn predicts that, "In five years, every data-equipped handset from T-Mobile will be a web'n'walk device."

All you need for an unlimited Internet access is an unbranded phone and an unlimited data service. So there is really nothing new here.

Posted by REO
Is anyone is interested in trading a P910a for a two month hardly used S710a? Please pm if you are interested.

Posted by knight4led
Unlimited internet has been around from almost every provider for some time now. This new T-Mobile ploy is just a big attempt make dumb consumers think only T-Mobile offers phones with real HTML browsers.

@REO you really want that P910a now. Don't think P910a for an S710a is the best trade in my mind, but I hope you find someone to trade with. It is without a doubt the best phone I have ever owned.

Posted by himomer
I am starting to miss my free access now, makes me regret changing my plan.

Any K750i users here? If so do you like and recommend?

Deutsche Telekom would be stupid if they sold T-Mobile USA considering it's their company that has the fastest growth and biggest profits.

Thanks for replying!

How is it to hold in your hand when using it, up to your ear or when browsing? Is it heavy? How does it feel in your hand? Easy to hold?

Posted by Residentevil
Well Amagab. T-Mobile is falling behind in technology. They are reducing their phone offering to simple phones. On top of that T-Mobile US is a separate unit and yes has great wireless plans. But worldwide companies are rolling out 3G services. Also Cingular is at least 1 year ahead with 3G technology, which it has been offering in select cities, which it inherited from ATT wireless. T-Mobile is thinking of skipping UMTS and offering the successor of it HSTP (I think). But rumor has it, it won't be out until 2007. Meanwhile TMOB might offer EDGE, which is a 2.5G technology. (50-90kbps compared to 30-60kbps of GPRS). I think T-Mobile US has lost direction in the market.

Posted by knight4led
I would tend to agree with you on that Res. even EDGE wouldn't really help, Cingular has had it for quite some time. If and when T-Mob releases EDGE, Cingular will surely be releasing UMTS to a larger market.

DT is not selling T-MO USA.

Might as well get all my browsing in while I wait for Dennis, SOB. Hope all is well for those of you in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Georgia. I am 60 miles north of the Gulf Coast and am prepared for the worse.

On to the phone, I am very tall 6'4" so it fits in my hand perfectly. When closed it is pretty close to the size of a T68i. It feels very sturdy compared to my Z600 and Razr both of which seen slight after holding the Z800i. Sound quality is excellent, even on 0 I can still hear the person I am talking to. Speaker quality is also great. The phone is on the heavier side I'll find something to compare it to weight wise at a later date. It can be used with one the wrist cord things that a lot of people use, but it does not come with one. It fits perfectly into a Louis Vuitton iPod case and unless you need to walk around with more than 2gb of music can replace an iPod. The large screen made browsing a lot easier than what I was use to. Its easy to use one or both hands while browsing. The price has dropped drastically, almost 50%, since I got mine and is pretty reasonable now. Hope this helps

Posted by amagab
Thanks for that excellent review on size. I think I will get one. Any recommendations where I should buy it? Places I've looked are eBay and myworldphone.com

That is right, but for how long. The T-mob sales ppl say, that they do not see a clear direction the company is going.

Posted by amagab
I agree! T-Mobile USA has to make a decision soon where they want to go. Are they going to invest in UMTS or stay a basic low-cost voice provider? Will DT put the company on the market or make major investments?

As for now, it seems like they are just playing the old "wait and see" game. It sure is a good thing they are still doing well.

I do hope DT keeps T-Mobile USA and make some investments. I would hate to see them go somewhere else. I love the T-Mobile support!
