by the way, we absolutely do have the stupid roundabouts, speed bumps and cameras mounted at intersections to give out tickets.

One time I got pulled over by a cop for going over speed bumps too quickly. In reality I went over them at about 5mph, which is almost too slow. He got in a fight with his partner about it and the partner told me to leave. I hate cops and I hate speed bumps.

Posted by Bammers
When I was in Florida I saw ONE roundabout, that confused me going the wrong way round it, and didnt see one fixed camera! Saw a few cops with speed guns, at least you could see them! They're everywhere here!

Posted by Residentevil
I like roundabouts. If you are not sure where to go you just go around for a while and then make your exit.

Howdy AD, Res, & Kni. :-) hows you doing sorry for my absence im pretty much busy with work lol ..spain is makin me work hard cos they wana get ready for the new registrations :-(

Posted by knight4led
There are at least 5 or 6 roundabouts right around where I live and it drives me nuts because nobody can ever figure out who has the right-of-way or when to enter them. They cause so much traffic. As for the cameras, they are all over the Bay Area in California and even more prevelant in LA.

@miss_uk, good to see you around again. Sorry to hear that work is keeping you busy. Better then not working at all though.

Posted by amagab
Roundabouts are cheaper and more effective than traffic lights.

Talking about fuel and cars.....here's a trivia for you that is quite scary.....from 1975-1985 the fuel-efficiency standards in US cars increased 70%. Then the oil companies realized what was happening and got in bed with the car manufacturers and politicians......since then the fuel-efficiency standards have not changed. (is it a coincidence that Bush Sr became VP in 1984?)

There needs to be more pressure and/or incentives to produce more fuel-efficient cars. The technology is there but the Big Three is not doing much about it. I'm glad Honda, Toyota, and VW are.

When I was driving in Florida I saw one!! Driving round LA, didnt see one and only a few cameras! You think you have a problem with speed cameras over there you should try coming to Npton, loads in a smallish town, cant drive more than 5 minutes without seeing one! And they swap them round so one day they are aimed one way, then the next the other way! And then you have the 5 mobile ones just doing speeding, and add those to the traffic police who have a habit of using their speed guns too and you have a situation where you spend all your time looking at yr speedo. Very safe!!

Posted by ADT0079
@Bammers the only roundabout i know of in florida is at clearwater beach but i'm sure there are more.@MissUk nice to see you back around. When you coming to NYC ?

Posted by Bammers
think it may have been clearwater beach. was right on the coast, just come off the beach actually and was at the edge of a housing estate. LA was great for cameras, not many at all! If you think you have it bad over there, come to northamptonshire or Oxfordshire, you will be horrified! Oxfordshire has fixed ones every few miles and northamptonshire had fixed ones and mobile ones that hide on bridges, all in the name of "safety"!! Who is being saved by catching people doing 100mph on an empty motorway at 8am on a sunday morning?

Posted by ADT0079
I must admit i have a lead foot which has gotten me a couple speeding tickets .

Instead of traffic signals and stop signs the English utilize these round-abouts. Brad says they work very well. The main rule is that you yield to whoever is on your right. If you are about to enter and there is nobody on your right that you would hinder by entering, you can enter without stopping. Therefore, if you hit it right, you can go through several of these intersections without having to stop.

In our case yield to the left.

Posted by Bammers
They work fine as long as everyone understands how they work and follows the "highway code" ie give way to the right and dont enter the roundabout unless yr exit is clear. Problems come during times like rush hour, when the volume of traffic and ignorant people who wither wont give way or insist on entering the roundabout and blocking junctions means that the whole thing gets clogged up and no one goes anywhere!!!!

Posted by Residentevil
That would be the biggest of them all. The round about around the Arc de Triomphe. When you are stuck on the inside you won't be able to get out for a long time.

Posted by Bammers
cant think of anything worse, stuck in France!

Posted by knight4led
tracffic circels with multiple lanes is just asking for trouble. By the way, you can never rely on other drivers to be intelligent or courteous.

Posted by Residentevil
That is why there are so many dents in French cars.

Posted by Bammers
funniest is in Italy, dodgy tiny fiat police cars, toy town sirens and massive traffic jams. Get out of the way for police cars? Where do you go?!LOL!

Posted by knight4led
I've been all over Europe and one thing I have to say is that the police cars look sorta harmless and sometimes cute. At least in America the police cars are sorta large and menacing looking. One look at an American police car and I wanna move, but a little Renault doesn't inspire me to pull over.

Posted by Bammers
Renaults are crap anyway.

Posted by Residentevil
Usually police cars are made by a national mfg. There is not much choice in France. Renault or Citroen.

Posted by tranquil
Funny you should say that!
Norway is a non car manufacturing country so we have a great varyity (?) of Police car brands here. Volvo, Toyota, Ford, VW, Subaru +++

Posted by Bammers
Doesnt work in the UK, we have just about every car going, in Npton they have peugeots, volvos, fords, mercedes, renault vans and fiats!!!

Posted by knight4led
Yeah we get ford or chevrolet police cars and the occasional chrysler or dodge. What really scares me is when you are on the freeway and a high speed police car like a camaro or a mustang cruises by.

Posted by Bammers
You should try Germany, they Porsche 911 or Italy where they have a Lamborghini (spelling?)!!!

Posted by Residentevil
Now that would be a good job. Police man in Italy driving around in a Lambo.

Posted by Bammers
Looks quite cool as well

Posted by knight4led
doesn't just look cool, it is cool

The Stanley Cup when originally created had nothing to do with the NHL. It was proposed by Canada's governor Lord Stanley, in a letter at Ottawa dinner March 1892. He named two trustees to oversee the annual competition for the cup. The championship was originally designed as a challenge match in which top Canadian teams could vie for the cup. There was no NHL, only amateur teams. Lord Stanley also mandated that the cup be awarded "from year to year". The only time the cup was not awarded was in 1919, because of a deadly flu epidemic. In 1947 the trustees made a deal with the NHL that gave teh NHL control over the cup. Today it is not a challenge cup anymore. Now under Canadian trust law that deal might be void.
See http://www.freestanley.com

Posted by knight4led
@Res thats a cool link. I think there should be a competition no matter what. Just because some owners and players couldn't get along, there is no reason that the spirit of competition that the cup stands for should be completely brushed aside.

Posted by amagab
The gas price just increased like hell here the last few days.

Posted by knight4led
haven't filled up in weeks, hope the price drops before I have to fill up again

Posted by Bammers
As before, still wont be anything like it is over here! Just spent a week driving 160 miles a day in a poxy 1.2L Renault Clio hire car and it cost over £70 in petrol. Work that out in dollars!!
And anyway, I quite like the states! So thats a good enough reason!

Posted by knight4led
yeah that amount of driving would have cost me about $100 as opposed to the ~$160 it cost you.

On the upside, I got my HBH-300 today, looking forward to checking it out once it is charged.

Posted by Residentevil
160miles at 20miles a gallon at $2 a gallon would have cost me $16 a day about 12Euro a day.

Posted by Bammers
Still can't get over that stupid muppet in the ordering dept got me a clio!! That would prob fit in the glovebox of most american cars!!!! And it was a 1.2 petrol as well! Diesel would have been cheaper for them! My expenses with food and petrol hit over £90 last week and I think i killed the Clio, was making a terrible racket when I dropped it off to the hire place. That'll teach em!lol!
